this album is so great! title track is my favorite thing he's done in years. lots of these songs sound like they should be hit singles -- wonder if any of them will succeed, or are they too out of step with the times?

the stretch from "taxi cab" --> "radio message" --> "when a woman loves" --> "love is" is just one of the best things i've heard all year, just absolutely stunning

I don't necessarily love this yet but I like it. have only had a few listens though. his voice sounds great, some of the material doesn't grab me as much as the rest. "Taxi Cab" is my favorite so far even if it is a bit incongruous with the rest.

i like how "taxi cab" is one of the four or whatever mj tributes on the album but is secretly the best of them by avoiding the obvious/kinda played out off the wall/thriller moves and going for angsty bad-era balladry "dirty diana"-style

first half is great, (as said before obviously) 2nd half doesn't interest me at all. the MJ tributes are sweet, i think he sounds more like MJ than Jackson on that new fake album.

Seriously. Hopper, for all her work, got far more credit than she deserved for that VV piece, which really in the end just amplified DeRo's voice/reporting. Jim's always done real reporting, though, and done a good job with it, but he's also done and said a lot of silly stuff, which can get in the way.

He can stand by his aesthetic takes and I can happily rubbish them, not that he would need to bother or care what anyone else thinks to start with. I will also gladly distinguish between opinions over said musical aesthetics and, per your note, actual reporting. On that front he has clearly done the work.

ILX in general should do more of a mea culpa for championing and celebrating the works of R. Kelly, IMO.
