Totally classic.

So was their Buzzcocks cover, but I expect less of a concensus on that.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 27 June 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

I was in the 4th grade and The "Raw and the Cooked" was the 1st cassete tape I purchased and it was almost entirely due to this song, the release of "Good Thing" completely sealed the deal.
It reminds me of of "Never Let you Go" by Third Eye Blind as another hit single so catchy that it's seemingly about pop-hook ecstacy itself.

theodore fogelsanger (herbert hebert), Monday, 27 June 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

Can't get it out of my head now, so I guess classic.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 27 June 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I love 'Good thing' and 'Johnny come home' ot whatever it's called. (It's early, I'm already late and the record's across on the OTHER side of the room'.

colin bailey (kid twist), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

Dud. In and of itself one of those songs that try too hard, and then it's been overplayed on top of it all. They have many better songs, foremost among which are "Funny how love is" and "I'm not the man I used to be."

brittle-lemon, Monday, 27 June 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

They have better songs, true. This is still effortlessly, eternally Classic.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

It struck me as an awkward about-face after their debut, but it grew on me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

You can sing the words of "She walks in beauty," by Lord Byron, to the same tune, so, classic.

Guayaquil, Monday, 27 June 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Love the snare sound. But I can do without the mannered falsetto. YMMV.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Monday, 27 June 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

FYC are all about the mannered falsetto.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm still flabbergasted that these guys scored two # 1 singles and a #1 album. Anyway, there's better stuff on the album, but not much better.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 27 June 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

I think Classic because I can imitate his voice on this song pretty well.

Billy Pilgrim (Billy Pilgrim), Monday, 27 June 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

I much prefer their classic-soulful stuff.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

Love, love, love their Buzzcocks and Elvis covers.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

That singer was one wierd lookin' cat. CLASSIC!

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

no joke, this is my least favorite song of all time. I had to be about 6 when it came out and I hated it then. His vocals make me shudder, no man should be able to make that sound.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

How do you feel about their other songs?

Alex in NYC....who was 22 when this song came out (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

haven't bothered to give them a second chance since that particular single. Should I?

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

It's really too bad that he couldn't sing live.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

I never thought "She Drives Me Crazy" was particular indicative of them, but if it's the man's voice that bugs you, I'd steer clear.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

For a long time I couldn't work out if he was singing "She drives me crazy / Like no one can," or "Her long blonde hair." Perhaps I still can't.

brittle-lemon, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

Never liked it, probably never will.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

Suzy Creemcheese (SuzyCreemcheese), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

Any faux Motown/Stax/English Beat bands on the college charts these days?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

His vocals make me shudder, no man should be able to make that sound.

Including H Wayne Casey (KC & The Sunshine Band)?
