Could someone please enlighten me about the Irish rap scene? Who should I be listening to?

Stevie T., Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Goldie Lookin' Pot

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

nobody. never listen to any Irish music, ever.

except trad.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

and Hystereo (ronan what is this 'mothership re-connection' credited to them in the Dance Charts??

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to Ronan

Really? What about hip-hop or dance? Is there really none of that in Ireland? If not, why not? Is it really all trad music and U2? I thought that was just a caricature.

Stevie T., Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Hystereo. Maybe Decal.

I'm joking really, just lots of Irish music is rubbish. I wouldn't even investigate Irish hiphop myself I have to admit. There are plenty of good DJs here though.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

wolfetones has a rap in one of their songs.

scg, Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevie ten years ago you had Marxman whose singles included 'Sad Affair' (very nice soul sample - i imagine Kanye would approve, over some pretty poor lyrics about 'the troubles' - i imagine Kanye would approve) and 'All About Eve' which I imagine concerns 'the ladies' but is not particularly good either iirc.

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

god, all that House Of Pain shite from ten years ago is flooding back to me now. i even liked 'On Point'. curse you Yo! MTV Raps, curse you.

Spiral.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

Messiah J and the Expert. They were Creative Control but I think the name was being used already. They've also lost the wee shaved headed boy who was the most gormless Flava Flav rip off ever. The first time I saw them he was wearing dungarees and with the glasses and the hair I thought he was a woman! Damn you media stereotypes!

The Rubberbandits are comedy rappers and producers from Limerick City who perform anonymously in costume. Having started off making prank phone calls, they ventured into hip hop in 2008.

buzza, Friday, 24 December 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

they just missed out on the Xmas No. 1 over here
