Has anyone heard this yet? Care to comment on it? This is released on the 28th, but I can't find any good advance info about it anywhere, outside of the date listings on Insound and Troubleman Unltd.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Thursday, 9 September 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just wondering how it compares to, for instance, the Don't Stop EP, because the title track was just fantastic...

Kevin H (Kevin H), Thursday, 9 September 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ARE YOU A TRIPSTER?!?!?! OMG WTF LOL

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 9 September 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh damn. I might be. No beard, + I have a pathological addiction to deodorant. But some of the other criteria hit close to home...

Kevin H (Kevin H), Friday, 10 September 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

So apparently no one else has heard it yet. Maybe in a couple weeks.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like to hear it.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

So would I. By 'no one else', I meant 'no one'. I seem to suffer from some sort of digit-centered palsy when I type.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard it a few months ago. I think it sounded a lot like Don't Stop. I don't remember though, it was a while ago.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I just mention Don't Stop because the one article I found online that even vaguely mentions the new record has said that their sound on Kling Klang has a lot more, I dunno, layers on it- samples, electronic gauze to it, etc. So I was thinking that maybe they had changed their sound drastically, but it sounds like from what Dan said that it's pretty much the same. Which of course isn't a bad thing.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
fuckin'dubbedoutkrautrock shit, i'm diggin'this shit. shoulda called it robotsplayingESG. and one track was mixed by my old pal thom monahan. you know, i think i still have a tape of thom's old band closetfull of fear if you want to hear vintage danbury indusrial rock. it wasn't always pretty.

í'm only on track 4. let's see if they can keep it up. more stuff should sound like this.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i love tussle big time.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

oh scott, you have this. i need.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

upthread comments otm ... sounds like don't stop which is great because i love the shit outta that ep.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

dood, i only have a cd. what am i supposed to do, send you a cd copy? i guess i could. my maria can burn things. i don't do the download thing sadly.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

get one soulseek!

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

mebbe it's cuz i was just listening to esg yesterday, but the drums and bass on the first track reminded me of them. dfa should remix this shit for da dancefloor.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i should try the soulseek. especially now that i'm always on a pc since my mac died.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

plus, i got the cable hookup on the pc.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

this shit is cool. i'm playing it on maria's sony sooperbass boombox with the kickass woofer action. push the groovebass button and your house rumbles.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

cuttsey, this is on my slsk. it should still be online ... if not, i'll turn it on when i get home in a few hours.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

you are offline booboo.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i've always thought they were a poorman's esg. i used to see them all the time in backyard parties in SF and thought they were really fun live (all my friends were kinda freaked out by the jam-band drum circle potential). i listened to two tracks yesterday that i downloaded and was very, very underwhelmed. it sounded like nothing but drums and bass. all melody was played by the bass. i think they need some sort of something added to it for me to like a horn section? some kerrrazy keyboard or guitar skronk? i dunno. seemed kinda boring.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i know not ESG. how do they differ?

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

there is lots of synth action on this album. and funny noises. it isn't all drums and bass.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

esg were teenage kidz from the bronx that made heavenly rhythmic muzak that was from heaven. they had a signature drum & bass sound. this tussle approaches that sound on some tracks.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

the bassist from TUSSLE is also the VETIVER guy, who was also in early 90's chapel hill band THE RAYMOND BRAKE.

(fyi)

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

omg they're still playing and fatter than ever. isn't that their daughter or niece on guitar?

did anyone hear their recent album on Souljazz?

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i checked out esg on allmusic ... sounds up my alley. are they purely instrumental?

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

but they also have the rep-rep-rep-repetition of the kraut thing and the locked groove grooviness of the kraut thing. and they have got some postpunk dub action. i think i like it mostly for the vocallessness. i get sick of da indie voices trying to be newwave hero voices sometimes.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

no they have soul-ish vocals.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

tussle that is.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

esg were great. everyone needs the souljazz comp.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

dean, the ESG comp is nothing short of amazing. you'll recognize tons of tunes.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe the two tussle songs i heard were sorta boring? "Here It Comes" and "Tight Feans"

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

here it comes is the most esg-ish. i like that one. that's the first song on the album. tight jeans is the last song. the whole album is pretty good if yer me. i think i just really needed to hear drums like that which is why was blasting that lcd yeah single last week and esg yesterday. i need more and more drums. i don't know why. it's a chemical thing i guess.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

wow. i'm listening to the !!! album for the first time, and i really wanted to not like it. his voice has sorta annoyed me before and i'm pretty indie-guiltish, but this is pretty good.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 December 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't like !!! until I saw them live. Their records stillo don't really do it for me, but they bring the fuckin party on stage. And yeah, his voice sometimes veers into awfulness. Win some/lose some.

Pandora is playing me Ghost Barber from Kling Klang, and I really like it. Thanks Pandora!

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 03:49 (nineteen years ago)

I keep eyeing off the 'here it comes' 12" at the record store. it has lockgrooves! I love a good lockgroove.

lift up fong and see (haitch), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 04:00 (nineteen years ago)

new song 'warning' from their myspace site (myspace.com/tusslers) is a doozy

Michael B (Michael B), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

saw them last week (with the fucking amazing Black Fiction) in SF and it was easily the best i'd ever seen them. i was always on the fence - their shows felt too much like jamming with no real direction, but the addition of a new bassist anchors the group and gives it the movement i felt it had been lacking. go see them!

something less threatening (heywood), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

four weeks pass...
I'm quite excited for both of these:

The new Tussle album, 'Telescope Mind' will be released October 2006 from Smalltown Supersound. It was recorded by Quinn Luke and Tussle in San Francisco in 2005 and features 12 new Tussle tracks and contributions with Tomo of Hey Willpower and Dennis Young and Sal Principato of Liquid Liquid. Listen to some samples on our myspace page.
--
A 12" single with remixes from Hot Chip and Optimo should be coming out in Septmeber. You can listen to an excerpt of the Hot Chip remix on our myspace page.

That 12" sounds like it could be just right. Their myspace is http://www.myspace.com/tusslers. For some reason I kinda ignored "I'm and Indian Too" but right now I'm really feeling it. And I don't know much about Smalltown Supersound (except that it's out of Norway and that it will also be releasing the compilation of Feedelity tracks), but it's kinda strange to me that they wouldn't be releasing this on a US label as well. What's up with them and TMU?

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

I missed this thread first time round, I liked Kling Klang so am looking forward to this. Smalltown Supersound is a pretty fine ass label, they've released The Thing and Jazkamer (nee Jazzkammer) as well as less noisy stuffs

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

the optimo remix is intense.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

I can only imagine. Is that 12" still on schedule for September stirmonster?

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

i really don't know for sure. the remix was handed in in june so september sounds about right.

I wanted to see them, but I just found out that they just played Detroit on a couple of days ago!

The promoters haveta put the opener names in bigger fonts.
They are better than the headliners 53% of the time.

Is Telescope Mind that different from Kling Klang?

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

whatever happened to that 12" with stir's mix, i wonder?

haitch, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 07:16 (eighteen years ago)

it was too intense! every copy exploded in flames.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha, we were so innocent in 2005

Maria :D, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

whatever happened to that 12" with stir's mix, i wonder?

i've been wondering that for over a year!

stirmonster, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

I love Tussle, but it's annoying when they play gigs with Tussle on the marquee and 1/2 the band.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

It would appear from their myspace page that those 2 members ARE tussle now. I hope the departed members go onto other excellent things - Alexis in particular is the only one I've met, but he has excellent taste in music (and was a sometimes music reviewer for Vice under the moniker "A to the muthafukin G").

Curious parties can listen to <a href="http://www.discoex.com/?p=10";>a podcast of dub/disco/punk that Alexis and I recorded on my KFJC radio show a few years ago</a>, which was also the radio premier of the just-back-from-the-mastering-facility "Kling Klang" album.

a zing 17 hours in the making

creme1, Thursday, 5 July 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

alexis hasn't been with them for quite a while now -- since right when their latest album came out. he's working with quinn luke aka bing ji ling on some punk-funk-disco action for DC recordings...

BATTAGS, Thursday, 5 July 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

mike, did you used to work w/warren, their drummer? he's a super nice d00d. we'd always chat when i came in the store.
