...because I just don't know.

blue line swinger!

also: the version/edit from camp yo la tengo is great.

"Blue Line Swinger." In part because it makes Georgia Hubley scatting sound intense. Both are glorious.

Blue Line Swinger -vs- any other song in the world. It's just about perfect. Great for any occasion too. Use it while driving, exercising, working, cleaning, drinking, practicing guitar ...

i heard you looking. by a long way too. looks like i'll have to play blue line swinger to see why you are all picking that one

gareth (gareth), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the answer is "detouring america with horns" vs "paul is dead"

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually think Blue Line Swinger, but then again...

They played I Heard You Looking at Maxwell's last week, and though Ira's feedback freakouts might go on just a tiny bit too long, every time he comes back to the melody I feel something akin to orgasm.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

well for jody's question I'd pick "Paul Is Dead." Though if it was up against "Satellite" it'd be more of a debate for me.

Shit, I wasn't even thinking of all the live performances I've seen.. Now I'm not sure.

i'm sticking with Blue Line Swinger... 1995, San Diego... Ira, Georgia, James, Chris Knox and Barbara Manning going wild in the third encore.

IHYL by a wide margin, as Gareth sez. It has a more organic and natural majesty. BLS is epic, too, but it feels a bit too studied.

I Heard You Looking

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yow. I think early exposure to Electr-O-Pura during my guitar eudcation is one of the main reasons I have a hard time playing solos "right." After being knocked out of my brain by the ones on "Flying Lesson," "My Heart's Reflection" and esp. "Blue Line Swinger" I can't help but try to go all Voidoid-freakout in the middle of a melodic line.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

my wife walked down the aisle to "i heard you looking". it was sweet.

beaty (beaty), Sunday, 11 January 2004 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

blue line swinger by miles. it's so much more hypnotic. what about painful vs. electropura?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

sudden organ!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this is one of those questions you're not supposed to know the answer to.

omg :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 11 August 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

A battle between two heavyweights. I'll have to go with Blue Line Swinger because it has vocals, but I Heard You Looking is just about perfect, too.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Saturday, 12 August 2006 02:55 (nineteen years ago)

I Heard You Looking. And Paul is Dead. I love that song.

God, IHYL. When the melody is about to go over in pure noise, but then reclaims the territory, and the battle continues back and forth for the rest of the song until the melody finally conquers the feedback as the song fades out is one of my favourite stretches of music.

Except that the best Yo La Tengo song is "Drug Test".

I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 02:07 (twelve years ago)

Blue Line Swinger is my favorite song of all time.
