having picked up vol's 1&2 as well as 3&4 on the stength of the latest [9&10] i am debating whether getting the other couple so far, is worth it. think the latest is ace, especially the pj harvey contributions, but the other couple i have aren't really of the same quality.

btw:: any pj fans should seek this latest one out....definately her stongest material since "to bring you my love".

Search whichever one has that "Monster In Your Parasol" song that Chris Goss sings. Great stuff (and gets the 'we keep TRYING to be Cream and one of these days we'll actually write a song that's better than most of the stuff that overrated band did anyway' vibe right).

thanks ned...i like the "R" version better though. hearing that version before this one though might have clouded my judgement.

get 4 & 5 - 5 is godlike

disappointed by pollys tracks - if she could have just played dirty guitar it could have been soo much better

7 & 8 is by far the best. i prefer its version of "hangin tree" to the one on songs for the deaf.

1 & 2 isn't exactly the best example of what to expect from the other ones. i like 3 & 4 though - "eccentric man" is outstanding.

Revisiting these for the first time in forever and I have to say that I'm enjoying them more than I expected. May just be my mood, but the rough sound and impish fun of the first few are really hitting the spot. They fit right in after the middling sounding CCR live boot that was on right before; just Chooglin' into oblivion.

So a 10xLP box set reissue of all of these is probably just a RSD or two away, yes?

The latest post from the Queens of the Stone Age instagram account is strongly hinting that Desert Sessions 11 & 12 are upon us. Sprinkled in among various other hashtags are the words #desert, #sessions, #11, and #12. Someone on reddit mentioned that Carla Azar and Matt Sweeney were possibly involved.

I take it that's 11 colors for 11 sessions, meaning a new one on the way?

Simon H., Thursday, 12 September 2019 13:37 (five years ago) link

Yeah, 11 sessions for sure. Maybe 11 participants too? 11 songs?

The colors sure are fun to look at and the glyphs are hobo signs.

Ok, eight songs total. Billy Gibbons, Les Claypool, Stella Mozgawa, Jake Shears, and I'm guessing a few more. I think I read somewhere that Matt Berry (from Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Mighty Boosh, etc.) contributed. Also, as mentioned above Carla Azar and Matt Sweeney.

Out today, and for the most part, it's really amazing! The Finnish-ish novelty track Chic Tweetz is probably twice as long as it needs to be and I may never need to hear it again. And on the last song, Josh is doing his 'David Bowie' thing but on first listen it comes off more like a 'Roger Waters' thing to me, and in not such a good way. I love Billy Gibbons on the opening track, and the Scissor Sisters guy in general. And newcomer Libby Grace on If You Run sounds great. It does a whole lot in less than half an hour.

No individual tracks are standing out for me yet, but it's definitely a weird and cool record. I hope they do another soon.
