Original Line-Up Reformations

Kiss did it, briefly. The Sex Pistols are off doing it again (pounding the final nail into the coffin of their once fiercely-held convictions). Who'd you like to see attempt this, if anyone?

I think a reunion of the original Motorhead line-up of Lemmy, Philthy Animal Taylor and Fast Eddie Clark would be worth seeing/hearing (and yes, pedants, I realize that the original Motorhead line-up featured Larry Wallis of the Pink Fairies on guitar, but it was the Fast Eddie incarnation that made their name.)

Any others?

The Chameleons -- and they did it (and are continuing to do it, so I hope) DAMN well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ruling out lineups impossible to reunite due to deaths:

Henry Cow, Pere Ubu, Fleetwood Mac, The Jam, the Pop Group

The Style Council.

The Talking Heads... though thats just a plain reformation, not a lineup change

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Thursday, 31 July 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to see Jim Beattie back with Primal Scream

For the sheer ridiculousness of it, Metallica... Hetfield, Ulrich, Dave Mustane, Ron McGovney, and Lloyd Grant (he was a black guitarist that played like 3 gigs w/ them). Yes I know this is pretty impossible, as McGovney hated bass and hasn't played since, no one is sure where Grant is, and Mustane is suffering from the hand injuries (or is he cured or what)

Ruling out lineups impossible to reunite due to deaths: Pere Ubu

Laughner's dead.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Thursday, 31 July 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Sundays, please. I know they're actually on indefinite hiatus rather than broken up, but it's been six years since the last record.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Thursday, 31 July 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Felt (orig lineup). the Field Mice (pre-annemari). Galaxie 500.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 31 July 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

second vote for Galaxie 500, if only to see Damon & Naomi freak out mid-set and beat the shit outta Dean Wareham onstage.

i wonder if _that_ would change his voice.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 31 July 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Screaming Blue Messiahs

If I weren't so gobsmackingly manly, for this I would say: "DAVE, I KISS YOU!"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 31 July 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

If only that's all it would take... alack, Alex.

RE: Ubu and Laughner:

Whoops, guess I was thinking of the "Modern Dance" lineup.

Actually, if I had my druthers with Henry Cow I'd rather have the second lineup with Lindsay Cooper reform. But that's a wish inspired by non-musical reasons as well, since she's sick with MS and can't perform, so I wish she was in a condition to do so.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Siouxsie & The Banshees (I specifically want Siouxsie to sing "Drop Dead" with Morris & McKay backing her!)

It's just dawned on me that the original line up didn't include Morris or McKay and did include the late and unlamented Mr. Vicious. Bugger. I'm surprised none of you other punk pedants picked me up on that one.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It also featured Marco Pirroni, later of the Antz.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to see the Mice reform.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed Mr In NYC; although if we're going to be insanely pedantic about this, Marco was only drafted in at the last minute because Billy Idol bottled out!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. Didn't know that. Cheers, Stew.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That's OK mate - maybe it'll make up for all the fire-dishonouring I've been doing by taking your name in vain on How would you change Top of the Pops? ?!

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 2 August 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

twenty years pass...

I have to laugh about "The Velvet Undergournd" album Squeeze

I guess DOug Yule was in the real band but it seems like anyone could reform "The velvet underground" if somone said it was ok

who wants to be in the Velvet Underground with me

| (Latham Green), Tuesday, 23 July 2024 14:54 (one year ago)

Strictly speaking, it wasn't a reformation, but a continuation - Yule had been playing shows as the Velvet Underground ever since Lou left in 1970.

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 23 July 2024 16:01 (one year ago)

reminisce on similar bands - the SHip of THeseus bands - like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Also, I would really be delighted if Ringo decided to make a new Beatles record with other new band members not including paul
