Best, though, maybe, is Skeeta Charlot, drummer for the late lamented zydeco king Beau Jocque. Saw 'em live at the Rock N Bowl in New Orleans and Skeeta was like the Creole Bobby Byrd/Bobby Bennett/Jerome Brailey, while still keeping up that funky beat.
Come to think of it, both Morris Day and Jerome were both drummers first. Check Morris' drum work on that 16-minute track on Prince's Crystal Ball.
