emo-adjacent sometimes-rock album with some truly wild sound design drawing on game soundtracks, the prettiest & most hyperactive ends of edm, & gorgeous digital noise. it's apparently emerged out of the "digicore" scene which is hyperpop-adjacent i think? no idea what the distinction is yet. but it's easily one of the very best things to be at all associated with any of those

the general mood & eclecticism reminds me a fair bit of the 1975, just if they were less polished & went much wilder with sonic experimentation. it's really got that grand emotional bombast - the first two bloc party albums are brought to mind a little too? & then "search party" sounds like it's heavily drawing on the meadowlands, consciously or not.

Knew this'd make it here haha. Yeah I enjoyed my first listen a few days ago. Search Party is really good, as is Movies For Guys. Hyperpop emo, sure, but also very much somethinggaze and somethingwave too. Very au courant

"your clothes" reminds me a fair bit of something i can't quite place, maybe "new music machine" by cornelius? but i'm not certain that's it

Hmm, will try to work it out.

Search Party's (glorious) climax is almost unbearably loud on earbuds btw. I like to be assailed with noise but wow

Hear what you mean. There might be a Coaltar of the Deepers thing going on...?

i think it's "new music machine" + poppy's "her" in the bridge (though that's a fairly generic sort of alt-rock thing) that it was reminding me of

one thing about this album is the video game synths are really well integrated, usually attempts to put them in anything resembling rock music clash really badly but they've figured it out here
