which I hadn't been aware of but turned up in Sister Ray. Overview of the label over a couple of decades. From early Savage republic to solo Bruce Licher. & several of the bands he released including Camper Van beethoven who are represented by Take tHe Skinheads Bowling which might be too obvious a choice. Nice lp anyway.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/69859b407803103af717fd57b242c150/1768920
been meaning to pick this up for years and it was in Sister ray at the same time.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/b6bb952e199e9c9fd1b5491383840bf3/1288289
I knew the name for years, not sure if i had really heard them before the reissue

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/77538e27205ffc7876ef1ed19cd8e9d4/2216904

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/a4994c356e85742e322a9e091ad0ab6b/6976720
should have picked this up in Rough Trade cos it was a bit cheaper. Have listened to it since i got home and bought it online now.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/c3c8be3bbd6a54522d6b8fb4b388eb40/1443293

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/6b921b7a6efd5bf5df3ef3744100ad71/6181166

first (2014) and second (2017) album releases by Clap! Clap!

from allmusic:

"Coming from a background in jazz, where he sometimes worked under the alias Digi G'Alessio,
Italian musician Cristiano Crisci made a transition into electronic music with the Clap! Clap! project
around the beginning of the 2010s. Crisci's work as Clap! Clap! wove the influence of Chicago's footwork scene
into a tapestry of West African percussion samples as well as frequent use of Crisci's own field recordings."

"Sophomore album...finds the producer folding live instrumentation into the earthy samples"

I noticed this is The return Of , think I picked it up cheap in either Rough Trade or FOPP over Xmas.
Not sure exactly what the difference between the 2 versions is.
& I think I might finally get around to picking up copies of the lps from a couple of years later.

THis is the edition of the cd I have and I bought it a while after first hearing about it. Can't remember details unfortunately, but I got it in the early 90s. & i think I may have heard about it from Forcedexposure.
I love the mournful feel to the tunes and the references to earlier music forms. Seems to be steeped in gopspel/old timey influence but played with an electric feel.

I love Fall Into Time. They reissued the releases that make up the Rifts comp a couple years ago, and they’re all so good. Having them each as a separate slab of vinyl makes them much more approachable and memorable than listening to the en masse on Rifts

mainly disc 3 so far
Esoteric recently reissued this as a 3cd compilation including a lot of previously unreleased stuff. Disc 3 has material recorded by the band with new members playing electric instruments. Retains the hypnotic droning of the acoustic band but has electric basslines etc.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/e19e5db1e369dc9f2b0fb3727b5eb258/2344349

late 40s recordings by him as part of a couple of electric trios. I think I mainly know his songs from recordings by Rockabilly artists about 10 years later but this is blues

Yeah Esoteric are doing all the lps, they did Elements at the same time as Macbeth last month or the one before. & Alchemy has come out now. I think as a 2cd. They have things like Peel Sessions, Live recordings and other stuff on.
2nd disc of this s/t which is now called Elements is the soundtrack to Abelard and Heloise which was thought lost for decades.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/11958cf2194fde74488575e0d5602f6c/6194861
Black punk band from the late 70s who sound utterly prescient of later punk/metal development. Guitar is a turbulent wash.
Drummer wound up in the late era New York Dolls then the Heartbreakers when Jerry Nolan had either left or was otherwise disposed. & the band had practised at the NYD practise space from early on. I think they formed in 1974 so had been around for a while before punk.
They wound up being managed by Curtis Knight who I think Jimi hendrix had had trouble with and he stopped them from getting well paying work on several occasions. Also this lp which was recorded in 1978 took years to come out leaving their only contemporary release being a single featuring a cover of These Boots are Made for Walking.
This version comes with a half hour live dvd that i've yet to watch.

//e.snmc.io/i/300/s/40f206f117d3c8a8dbc99faac6b613ba/1528773
Great lp though th eband themselves didn't like it. Nice combination of soul influences, fuzz guitar and some psych .
Would like to hear what would have been the result iuf they had the management/backing that they deserved. The more contemporary sounding tracks here are quite good. BUt I think they felt they were stuck in a style that they were already moving away from. Still fuzz-guitar version of Barefooting is pretty necessary.
THis also has an 11 minute jam on Wang Dang Doodle that is pretty classic.
Scott Morgan has a great voice, his next bands Guardian Angel and Sonics Rendezvous Band are both worth hearing.

Alec Palao's best of the 60s recordings by th eall girl band from SF. Garagey with some long somewhat jammed out tracks and some shorter acapella stuff. Maybe not the greatest band on the ballroom scene but interesting anyway. I like this, got some good stuff on.
They didn't get a deal together despite a few offers, then felt they weren't in a position to tour since some of them had just become mothers. Which is pretty sad. Finally got a first studio lp out a couple of years ago.
I listened to a Deeper digs in Rock History podcast on them a few weeks ago which got me interested in hearing this. So now i finally have a copy after meaning to get it when it came out.

a companion series to Ethiopiques. This is a great set with rippling instrumental interplay and various musical influences , some latinate stuff in there as there was across a lot of Africa from the late 50s on.
Somebody mentioned this on a list of great African releases on a different board a couple of months ago and it's on Spotify where i listened to a bit of it before grabbing a copy.

went back to check on this after remembering it as psychedelic guitar driven which I think it is. It seems like they were produced as another band from the ballroom scene before they found their own sound over the next few lps. Still pretty individual.
I think the influence they had on the grunge scene came from this s/t lp and the next lp Bayou Country mainly. & I think those are my 2 favs by them.

isn't that the one where they tried to go "indie dance"? not so well received for good reason iirc. the "barbarous english fayre" comp is the one stop shop of the early stuff - it snarls https://img.discogs.com/d6hWGx2pTLWp6Mp1YyKAQvNa4fE=/fit-in/600x628/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-330263-1127155124.jpeg.jpg

NUmero group release of anachronistic sounding 1977 lp. It sounds like it should be from about 5 years, possibly more earlier.
Have heard comparisons made to Astral Weeks. I hear Bioll Withers among other things.

Current London based folk singer's lp on rituals etc concerning May. She has a great voice and is trying to update folk , but I'm surprised by the inclusion of songs with very archaic sympaties, as I was when i saw her playing live yesterday.
Had teh choice of 3 cds by her after the gig. Not sure if i went for the best one, this i sher latest one which has Daviud Tibet guesting on one track. Quitie nice, not sure it's her best of the 3.
Gig was good, was part of a series of afternoon concerts that have happened at the local university. Enjoyed it anyway.

The only one of the remastered cds that I have got so far . Hope i get a chance to get the other 3 or the whole box.
THis sounds great now anyway. Not sure when the last time I heard teh actual lp was, I don't think I had it on cd and don't think I found any kind of remaster for it anyway. Later 2 of the Flying Teapot trilogy seem to have had some attempt at sound improvement on earlier issues i think.
Wish I'd got both voilumes fo Daevid Allen's GOng Dreaming before SAF disappeared. 2nd one is pretty great.
NOt sure what I'm missing in terms of linernotes & packaging by having the individual cds not the box too.

Irish Dark Ambient band that played at one of the TULCa festival so Ibought this, the latest cd by them. Not sure what is good by t6hem, this is pretty listenable. Does show metally roots which they only touched on momentarily live. Guitarist mainly played around with his volume pedal on his guitar live instead of strumming or picking. They seem to have a uniform of white formal shirts and balaclavas which isn't that inventive. & show various films behind them.
Enjoyed them live and may go see them again.

Dave BIxby of Quexalcoatl fame forms band and records a 2nd lp, which came out in 1970. Still acoustic and pretty great. I'd like to know more about why he's lifting from Space Oddity though.

compilation lp of singles material by Turkish mid 70s artist. Some nice heavy stuff in here alongside some more atmosp[heric stuff.
Guerssen was having a sale which is where those 2 cds came from.

Deluxe 2cd version of the 1974 lp . THis was one of the ones released with band's support. I think they're limited editions so need to pick up the last 2 before they disappear.
I think the Flying Teapot trilogy were all recorded wiuth different lineups. The music for this lp was largely created while Daevid Allen and Gilli Smith were away in Deya and only finally worked out thejn recorded when they returned.
Linernotes seem to skip the situation leading up to the band having to relocate back to the UK from France where they'd been living up to that point. Think this was largely recorded in Oxfo9rd after being devised in a chateau in the middle of a forest in france.
Anyway, blooming great set.

Vanity - Evening Reception

One of my favorite discoveries of the past few years, they started off as rough Oi! with glam and rock influences and now've got this Stones-meets-weirdo glam/power pop vibe.

weird trippy heavy rock with long spacious instrumental breaks in places. A Numero group release that I picked up in their sale.

mojo cover mounted cd from earlier this year. Mixing material from the turn of the 70s with more recent stuff influenced by it.
GOt some good stuff on it like the preceding 4 volumes.

this is a good one from 6 years ago. The title Step Wide, Step Deep is taken from a cool Henry Threadgill quote about the need for a musician to step deep onto the next level or something - which is what they aim for.
