I like that there's a 18-year gap between Robert Wise and Sidney Lumet, and there are separate films called The Human Factor and The 'Human' Factor.

Included only feature films that were released theatrically.

I suspect Family Plot will sweep this, undeservedly.

I was thinking F for Fake was Welles's last, and would probably have won, but apparently his Othello doc got a theatrical release, even though it was made for German TV.

I can confirm that Millennium is the worst movie on this list.

holy christ I saw that too! As a kid I left thinking Kris Kristofferson was the worst actor ever.

I can confirm that Millennium is the worst movie on this list.

I did consider making it a worst-of poll instead. I think The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun looks like it might give Milliennium a run for its money

Christmas as a, what, 11-year-old I saw Buddy Buddy and Neighbors on two consecutive nights. Strikeout.

I've only seen four of these (or maybe three, but I'm pretty sure I saw Rio Lobo on TV ages ago). I remember The Dead as being quite good. Haven't seen The Last Tycoon.

Had completely forgotten about Millennium, which my parents took us to when I was a kid. A couple of drunk girls kept yelling stuff at the screen from the back of the theatre until they were kicked out. It was the highlight of the film.

Really wanted to include Stanley Donen's Blame it on Rio in this poll, but astonishingly, he was never even nominated for best director. Also, he's still alive, so who knows, he might make another movie.

The Eagle Has Landed is a lousy but perfectly serviceable World War II movie. Plus you get to hear Robert Duvall's German accent.

Avalanche Express is such a sad, doomed production - both actor Robert Shaw and director Robson died within a week of each other. Monte Hellman ended up finishing the movie. It's not bad - maybe towards the bottom of a Cold War espionage top 40.

I've shown The Dead fairly often in class when I've taught the story.

Robert Rietty was hired to re-voice Robert Shaw's dialogue in the opening scene, as it was decided to redo that scene in Russian with English subtitles instead of having the Russians speak broken English. As a consequence, for continuity, all of Shaw's dialogue throughout the film was re-voiced by Rietty.

Crazy.

I realize that I've seen Rooftops. I was in a job then that involved occasional advance screenings, so I went out one morning or afternoon and sat through Wise's attempt to bring West Side Story into the here and now of 1989. Don't remember anything except that it was dreadful. (I'm looking at the IMDB page, and Luis Guzman's down in the lower reaches of the credits.)
