This for me is when "Classic Simpsons" really hit its stride. I don't think there's a dud in the entire season, and the quality of the storytelling, the joke writing, the satire, the acting, the animation and the cultural cachet all came together. Seasons 3-8 are probably better than anything else that's ever been on television. I'd be surprised if there's a consensus as strong as "Lisa's Substitute" from last season. (Unless it's "Homer at the Bat," which is entirely possible.)
(The writing was so good, even Michael Jackson's lines in the season premiere are funny. "It's Michael Jackson, I'm in a mental hospital with your father." "Oh, right. Is Elvis there too?" "He might be, it's a pretty big hospital.")
