I'm a big fan of trees. There is a really good series of two books called something like Meetings With Remarkable Trees, they have some really crazy looking trees. I wish there was more books like that, maybe there is since the years I was looking for books about trees.

I really should photograph my favourite local trees but some are on other people's property.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 15 October 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link

Sadly most tree books focus on friendly looking trees. Would love there to be a book of most sinister trees.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Thursday, 16 October 2014 00:01 (nine years ago) link

would love that as well. we have some very sinister trees up on the mountain where there'd been wildfires.

These are some excellent trees in here!

These are my local incredibly ancient trees:

http://www.caughtbytheriver.net/cms/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/9-BoundaryOaks.jpg

They are ancient boundary oaks alongside an even more ancient boundary ditch. They've got that kind of stags antler thing going on, indicating oaks in very old age. So amazing.

Thank yoU!

The quaking aspen colony is on my bucket list! Trees that are ancient clonal organisms is one of those thing is so amazing my mind has trouble even trying to understand.

Locally, we have colonies of clonal elms which have suckered up from the roots of elms supposedly killed by Dutch Elm Disease. It's just the most amazing thing, how trees propagate themselves and survive.
