Today we had to make the decision that all hotel owners dread, and said goodbye to our much loved Brodie Bellhop Boy. At almost 15years old he had enjoyed a wonderful life, taking us for elevator rides, carrying luggage, obedience and agility (and quite possibly adding fuel to the assertion that bellhops are difficult to train) enjoying roaming our 15 stories and further afield if given the chance and generally just being a wonderful companion.

imo the best bellhop serves no hotel in particular, but follows his own instincts as to whose luggage needs transport. he is always there when you need him, often before YOU know you need him, and when you go to thank him he has already melted into the shadows of the night.

lol true story my friend worked as a bellhop in a boutique hotel in chicago and once brought Joe C's (the now deceased midget that was in Kid Rock's group) luggage up to his room while Joe C opted to take the stairs. While alone in the elevator he peeked in one of the bags and found a few dozen rolled joints and pocketed one of them.

Okay, so ive made up my mind. I'm not loaning Brodie anymore. I've decided thats what is best for both myself and him. Reasons for that, is i want to go onto jump more, and really start getting on with my riding, but Brod's just isn't interested in that, he just likes to pop in the school now and then.He has been a big part of my life recently and most probably will always be in my heart. Since Brodie doesn't seem to be around, I thought I'd recount a little anecdote about him. This is completely true, by the way.
Brodie and I were sitting on a hillock of hummock grass in the tatty eucalyptus creek by the billabong. We were discussing paleogeography, which is one of Brodie's interests, along with bellhoppery.
Brodie was telling me about the paleo-supercontinent of Gondwana, of which Australia is just one tiny sliver. Apparently, about 500 million years ago, Australia collided very slowly with neoproterozoic India. This, Brodie explained, is why the curry houses of Melbourne are so authentic.
In the middle of this exposition, Brodie suddenly burst out: "Grampsy, are you wearing a fake wig?"
I explained patiently that there's no such thing as a fake wig, since all wigs are real wigs.
Brodie shook his head.
"An actor whose role demands that he wear an 18th century wig could fake the wig by using his own hair."
"So are you suggesting that I'm using my real hair to fake a wig?"
This was clearly not what Brodie had been intending to suggest at all, but stubbornness made him pretend that it was.
"Yes. You're using your real hair as a fake wig."
To prove that the wig I was wearing was real, I lifted it off my head: "There. You see, it's a real wig."
Young Brodie was having none of it.
"You could still be using your real hair as a fake wig, just by detaching your real hair from your head first, in order that it better resemble a real wig when lifted."
Well, my bluff had well and truly been called. I had in fact been faking a wig, using my real hair as a red herring.
"There's no gulling you, lad," I said, ruffling Brodie's wig (which, by the way, is real). "One of these days you're going to make the greatest bellhop Queensland has ever seen."
"I already did," said Brodie. "His name's George."

Missing Wahroonga teen Brodie Hale is heading north, possibly to Queensland, police said.
Police received information that Brodie, 17, was in Taree on the NSW north coast on Tuesday.
The report has not been confirmed, but police said it was likely he was heading to Queensland.
It is not known why Brodie has gone missing, police said.
An extensive search is on for the Wahroonga teen, who is in need of medical assistance and has been missing for more nearly two days.
Ku-ring-gai duty officer Inspector Steve Martlew said police and Brodie’s family have real concerns for his welfare.
Police are appealing for public information to locate the youth.
Brodie was last seen at his home in Braeside St, Wahroonga at 12.15pm on Monday.
He left his home in his car, a silver-coloured 1995 Mazda MX6 sedan with red P plates, NSW registration number ALV 57V.
There have been extensive searches by the local police, Pol Air and his family, Inspector Martlew said.
Brodie is described as being of white/European appearance, 183cm tall with a medium build. He has mousy brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white shirt, dark shorts and black and white-coloured sneakers.
Brodie’s family and friends have told police they are concerned for him and that his disappearance is out of character.
He has a medical condition that requires treatment and urgent medication.
Anyone with information on Brodie’s whereabouts is urged to contact Kuring Gai Detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. All information will be treated in strict confidence, Inspector Martlew said.
