Surmounter, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

this is the greatest moment of our cultural history.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

tonight, Audrina was wearing sunglasses that were falling plain off her head.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

it is my favorite 30 minutes of television that isn't half an hour of Mad Men

akm, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

SURMOUNTER I LOVE YOPU AND I LOVE THIS SOW SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

Bright Future (sunny successor), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 04:06 (seventeen years ago)

i kind of can't believe we made it to four seasons (plus two relevant laguna beach seasons) without a thread on this. i guess ILX still likes to pretend it has some kind of limits.

akm, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 04:09 (seventeen years ago)

i have no limits. this show is freakin GOLD

Bright Future (sunny successor), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

it is gold-like :)

i remember catching glimpses early on and asking my boyfriend "who's that girl? (lauren) i like her"

and i remember seeing heidi and being confused

Surmounter, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 05:24 (seventeen years ago)

but seriously their teeth are too white i mean like i can't look at their faces because their teeth are so blinding

Surmounter, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

The glimpses of this show that I get from The Soup, Best Week Ever, and web video are the exact right amount. Watching an entire episode is like eating a key lime pie in one sitting.

i <3 the soup too. im v in love with Lou

except not sexing that hot NYC model when she had the chance

stephanie was on the post-show. she's pretty much bla

Surmounter, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

yeah theres another stun gun victim

Bright Future (sunny successor), Tuesday, 14 October 2008 03:24 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't watched last night's yet, but needed to say that the outtakes special that ran last week had the most hysterical bit ever, when Audrina's coworker starts talking about the particle accelerator that was recently turned on. The look of absolute horror, incomprehension, and bewilderment on Audrina's face was classic; she just started, terrified, and said "WHY ARE THEY DOING THAT?" then changed the subject back to talking shit about people.

akm, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahaha her facial expressions are hilarious

do they rerun last night's? i missed it :(

who's excited for THE CITY

Surmounter, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

i have to say, heidi KIND of wins me over sometimes. she reminds me of girls i've known. and from a few feet away she can look kind of amazing. :/

Surmounter, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

Sports Soup is diluting the brand

sad man in him room (milo z), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

Heidi is my favourite character but her acting has gotten so bad lately!

I know, right?, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

shut up, the writing on this show is consistently great and along with the art direction, one of the reasons it has kept up such a high level of brilliance.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

My favourite ever is that beautiful scene where LC and Jason are in a restaurant and the camera swings around to show Heidi and Spencer walk in, the whole thing is really beautifully choreographed.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

the sets are beautiful.

Gavin "Spinner" Mason (carne asada), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

the lighting is flawless, it has production values like few other programmes on tv outside the HBO canon.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

i <3 heidi and i am going to continue to pretend this is unscripted :D

this whole thing with audrina. it's like, i get it, i've been there with the whole "he's not doing that much for her" stuff. and i know it seems kind of pathetic, but first of all i think she knows that (i love when she's talking to her friend and she's like yeah i did kind of buy the house to get closer to justin...)

and SECOND, it seems like one of those couples that MIGHT actually work even if it's a bitch

Surmounter, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Monday, 10 November 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

also someone just posted the cat eating spaghetti on the swearing thread

yeah, me. i wish id never found out that cat pic was deliberate. it was really funny for a week.

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

ha I never really heard the story behind it. I saw the first time they showed the clip and then again when they used it randomly in the middle of some sketch a couple weeks later. I lolled.

dmr, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

i liked the australian guy ok but i woulda stuck with alex. he was like a little puppy!

Surmounter, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

alex is foxy for sure.

dmr, the story was that instead of bleeping people they just decided to use that pic. why that particular pic i dont know.

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

also i lolled at spencers evil mastermind grin on the soup last week

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

the grin was hilarious.

ok now they're just trying to make audrina look like a desperate flake. :?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

also lol at heidi's lip gloss. maybe a little better this episode but come on.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

to me heidi has the ultimate shade of blond hair. how do i achieve this?

Isn't anyone watching the City except for me? This thing looked like it would be terrible and it's the best of these shows so far.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

i actually thought it looked like it was going to be really good -- but i haven't watched yet :(

Surmounter, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

it's by far the most soap-opera-y one, mainly because it features a bunch of models.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

and whit is gorgeous

Surmounter, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

well she's barely even in this show because she herself is so dull.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

but everyone else is kind of hysterically over the top, particularly anorexic model Alley and her rapidly disintegrating life. I expect her to have a complete nervous breakdown and kill herself by the end of the first season.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:30 (seventeen years ago)

i love this show!! the guys are all asses but i guess thats what makes it so peachy.

JAM, DWANGELA, RELLY! (sunny successor), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

i haven't dared watch bromance yet. i've had kind of an upset stomach and i think it'd put me over the top.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

it's already over as of last night, biggest douchebag won, surprisingly.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

i was taping bromance but ended up deleting them all because id like to maintain my unrealistic image of brody jenner as cute and smart.

JAM, DWANGELA, RELLY! (sunny successor), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 18:04 (seventeen years ago)

i did want to see the LC episode though

JAM, DWANGELA, RELLY! (sunny successor), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 18:04 (seventeen years ago)

id like to maintain my unrealistic image of brody jenner as cute and smart.

where in the world did you ever get that impression? because he has always struck me as the biggest douchebag alive. if anything this show made him seem less like a douchebag, until the final episode, when it was confirmed that, no, yes, he absolutely is a piece.

akm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

lalalala i cant hear you

The whole start was a mess, trully desperado. Starting with the stupid bartender, one thing is to say to Heidi to let her man go so that she next thing can have him to herself, the same guy she talked bad about. I guess she wants to be in the show too...one more 'celebrity- or nothing'- junky! Use your brain and go to college. No of course it's not that easy! Then Heidi's psycho-mum and Colby...poor guy to put him and Heidi in that situation...she sucks huge time at being a supportive and neutral mother, when Heid needs that support! MUM hear your daughter out: ''I am choosing for myself''. How many times does she need to say that? Respect her desicions and choises. Gee! To go to Lauren...finally she showed some emotions in regards to her feelings for Heidi only to take it back the next day!!! Maybe she should follow her own advice and let it go..get a drink and take it from there. Come on, why make it harder, why punish herself and Heidi? She can have both the cake and the present and Spencer is Spencer. Heidi is one person. Poor Stephanie....Stephanie knew how diificult Lauren is and that it would have taking a huge effort and a special 'touching' moment like Laurens birthday to wake her up. She's still sleaping like a rock. Lo was mean and bitter towards Heidi...I was begginning to think she really grew and begun to understand more than only suffocating us the audience with her struggle to get Lauren stuck on her ('we have always knowned each other since ''kindengarden''-like'..yeah? give it a rest, for Guds sake woman!). It wasn't pretty that scene with Lo trying to get the advice to Heidi to let go...let go yourself! How desperate and jealous of her.. Can she EVER accept that Lauren can have other best friends than her and that although she knows her since school she can still have better connections with others than Lo? Wake up call...get it...when?! To Brody...wow, that's what I call a 'good' buddys advice! NOT Spencer...what the hell got into you boy? First player, then denial, then blaming Heidi, then involving Brody, finally going back to the horror of a bartender, etc. And all of that drama on Laurens birthday...not fair. But besides that...people should mind their own business and let Heidi and Spencer figure this out on their own. Relationships has ups and downs, that was a HUGE down, but for the others to attack as they are doing now where they got their chance...people hear this out. It was about to happen. No surprises at all. It happens all the time in relationships. It's how you deal with things. It's a trust issue. And IT CAN happen to you too, next time, so stop playing so perfect and wise: ''The only two persons the burned are the only ones they have to call'....COME ON...Who burned who? Who has the real issues anyway? And who knows how to be a real best friend...now that's the 1mil.dollar question. But everybody plays a victim here..pppp-PAthetic. Give the audience a break from all that drama created of perfectionist types, not Spencer and Heidi. They too make mistakes, but they are only 'the scapegoats' in this series. The punch thing...not that cool, but boy he had it coming. Maybe he should learn to mind his own business and stop being a p-u-s-s-sy..sorry guys for the choice of words here, but he was one!

this show could have been so interesting and well-done considering the subject matter. instead we get endless sequences of people struggling to over-talk the music in loud clubs, inane fake "drama" ad nauseam

the most compelling sequence in the series' history involves a plastic surgery addict and her trolling, seemingly disturbed husband

the final show was a lame cop-out which makes sense considering it originates from producers who seemingly have nothing but contempt for the audience. at least st. elswhere, newhart tried.

like: "this show could have been so interesting and well-done considering the subject matter. instead we get endless sequences of people struggling to over-talk the music in loud clubs, inane fake "drama" ad nauseam"

people talking in loud clubs and inane fake drama IS the subject matter.

akm, Monday, 16 August 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

i will agree that it kind of sucks to watch less than three eps. in a row.

plax (ico), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

you kindof just have to get sucked into the ambience.

plax (ico), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

people talking in loud clubs and inane fake drama IS the subject matter.

i guess i am crazy, but i just don't think basing a tv show around the social equivalent of balling saran wrap up ("crinkling cling" for you u.k.-ites) makes for particularly compelling entertainment? so, the theme is, v. rich people are just as boring and vain as the aspirational classes who predicate their lives upon ambitions to orbit around said v. rich folks? no, not at all. fitzgerald was right, the v. rich ARE different from those who are not in that category...thing is, producers of the hills, laguna beach somehow managed to find the most painfully unimaginative people to fall under that privileged category ever...or at least spun them as being that way.

dell (del), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

"crinkling cling film", argh, should pay more attention when i'm arguing life or death matters

dell (del), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

The ratings were pretty high so obviously people enjoyed it.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Monday, 16 August 2010 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

what i think i'm trying to say, is that the show portrayed these ppl who grew up in these awesome environments as being just as superficial as someone's worst imaginings would have their caricatures of rich ppl being

which is fucked-up, b/c being rich is awesome. given that upbringing, there is a world of stuff that you can do which transcends hanging out at the club every night and getting into petty manufactured "fights" and so forth. the producers of laguna/the hills dumped all of that in favor of pandering to audiences expectations of "oh, rich ppl are so superficial, tiresome"...which is "the day of the locust" all over again!

dell (del), Monday, 16 August 2010 19:03 (fifteen years ago)

MTV is not exactly the home of groundbreaking television ideas these days. Pandering to the audience is pretty much what they do.

uh the kind of ppl who license their entire lives 4 television r pretty much guaranteed to b. godawful?

plax (ico), Monday, 16 August 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

i guess you start watching it w. an attitude of detatched superiority and you end up "caring" abt their "lives."

plax (ico), Monday, 16 August 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

in the final series they were all total alcoholics. it was just like "hay its the afternoon lets have some vodka"

no, i thought that her shtick was just the kind of thing that made the show so terrible. she was a terrible actress, and it showed when she tried to instigate alcohol-fueled drama over some ridiculous nonsense. did you REALLY believe that her and brody were seriously into each other heavy-duty romantically? someone can invoke the "brilliant final scene of the series" all they want, and it doesn't take away from the fact that the layers of fake drama amounted to insult upon insult heaped upon the viewing audience. the show took "surface" too far in an extreme that would disturb even andy warhol

one year passes...

Okay so I started re-watching this on Netflix. 3 things:
1. I need to get this straight: The hills is a spinoff or maybe sequel to Laguna Beach which was sold as 'the real OC', a reference to the prime time drama 'The OC" in which Peter Gallagher plays Sandy Cohen. A producer credit in The Hills closing sequence is given to one Sandy Cohen. Whats going on here?
2. I'm pretty sure that in the season 2 opener I saw Samantha Ronson in one of the exterior crowd shots at the AREA opening event. Y/N?
3. Heidi is so freaking gorgeous in the first season that it is kind of ridiculous where she ended up. I mean like kicking LC and Whitney's asses in the beautiful stakes.

These little monkeys are fucking creepy. They are so monkey. (sunny successor), Monday, 26 March 2012 05:37 (fourteen years ago)

seven years pass...

Reboot review: almost as entertaining as the original run so far. I kind of love Audrina?
