jhøshea, Sunday, 20 May 2007 05:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, it's cool, KBP. Jesse mostly posts on the Chicago thread and the Gay thread, so if you don't read those, I don't blame you for not knowing him.

Trayce, here's how you console yourself with that: You've kept the same username for the whole time you've been on ILX (or as long as I've known you at least). You're only ahead of people like Jess or Dan Perry or JW, for instance, because they've all used several different names over the course of their time on the site.

At least this is what I have been telling myself.

Where were all you scott aficionados on the Mad-TV threads?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

hee hee my misanthropic, hermit hubby is popular on the internet! Reminds me of a story he told me about some 7th grade English class and they were reading Lord of the Flies or something and his teacher was trying to prove a point about how hard it is to choose a leader in that sort of situation so she asked the class who would be their leader if they were stranded and they all said Scott. And, in turn, that story reminds me of the Marooned book that's coming out this summer and that we're going to go to NYC in August so Scott can read from it at some party they're throwing for it. And that reminds me that Scott prolly wouldn't like that I divulged all this info about him.

Maria :D, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:09 (nineteen years ago)

Of course not! If you are a leader, you should have some self-respect (as we say) and self love.

nathalie, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

And BBcode conversion skillz. *sigh*

nathalie, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think I voted for Dan or 696. Who knows anymore! I LOVE YOU ALL!!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

no comment re 'self love'.

None necessary since you admitted you didn't vote for yourself. Just kidding.

nathalie, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

Kidding aside, I find the whole "ooh, I didn't vote for myself" thing quite disingenious.

I mean, I know this isn't a real vote, as none of us put ourselves up for candidacy. And it does smack of primary school popularity contests "elections" with the whole "don't vote for yourself" otherwise there would be 1 vote for each person.

But if it were a genuine election, political stylee, what's wrong with voting to yourself? Wouldn't *not* voting for yourself show a certain lack of support for your own cause?

But if it were a genuine election, political stylee

it isn't tho, so no need to do here what you would do there. it just seemed lame in this instance.

i expected between 0-2 and that's what i got but i expected the winner to only have like 8 or 9 votes, not as many as 30.

blueski, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

this might be the biggest poll on ILX so far ever in terms of number of votes. very telling. would a 'who is the worst poster out of the top 20' poll prove even more popular?

blueski, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

and would the third last position turn into a third place?

StanM, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

I don't actually think the voting distribution would be much different (apart from maybe the number 1 spot) on a "worst poster" poll.

"Best" and "Worst" in terms of popularity competitions usually mean "most noticed" rather than a value judgement.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

"you know how loved you are. :-)"

aw, and i love right back! i'm thinking it would have been a different story if ned were on that list. how is ned not on that list!?

did i mention on ile how much fun it was for maria and i to meet all these ilxors in seattle? it was way fun! ned, alfred, mister daddino, mister stelfox, rodney, maura, jaq, matos, nate, mark s, geeta, oh, everybody. such a great time.

scott seward, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

We really don't need to have a worst poster thread.

Nor did we need to have this one - typifies everything that is worst about ILx, cont. p. 94.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

I think you meant everything that is BAD about ILX.

(This is why I didn't win.)

the first thing i think of when i think of scott now is his lovely 'how i got together with my missus' story. fitting i guess.

MPLS/STPL has a flag, but it's of two river rats fighting over a chunk of feces, so you don't see it very often.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

I just noticed this thread.

I feel...supported?

Jordan, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

I like Grand Rapids, Mich.'s flag:

blueski, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Uh, now my posts are getting eaten as well. That's weird.

So, further research shows that MPLS does has a flag. It sucks, and looks like this:

http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/clerk/images/cityflag-1.gif

Thus, revision:

MPLS/STPLHASTINGS has a flag, but it's of two river rats fighting over a chunk of feces, so you don't see it very often.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a2/Municipal_Flag_of_Chicago.svg/720px-Municipal_Flag_of_Chicago.svg.png

top blue stripe represents north branch of chicago river and lake michigan, bottom stripe the south branch and the great canal. the stars represent pivotal moments in the city's history; the fort dearborn massacre, the great fire of 1871, the columbian exposition of 1893, and the century of progress exposition of 1933-34.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

That looks like it might belong to a communist country.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

chicago doesn't value labor enough to be communist

also v complicated:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_flag

apparently each point of each star represents something different?

kenan, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

The first star represents the Fort Dearborn Massacre of 1812. It was added to the flag in 1939. Its six points symbolize transportation, labor, commerce, finance, populousness, and salubrity.

The second star stands for the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and is original to the 1917 design of the flag. Its six points represent the virtues of religion, education, aesthetics, justice, beneficence, and civic pride.

The third star symbolizes the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, and is original to the 1917 design. Its six points stand for political entities Chicago has belonged to and the flags that have flown over the area: France 1693, Great Britain 1763, Virginia 1778, the Northwest Territory 1798, Indiana Territory 1802, and Illinois 1818.

The fourth star represents the Century of Progress Exposition (1933-1934), and was added in 1933. Its points refer to bragging rights: the World's Third Largest City, Chicago's Latin Motto (Urbs in horto - City in a garden), Chicago's "I Will" Motto, Great Central Marketplace, Wonder City, Convention City.

I like that the images on ours seem to correspond to government, science, sailing, and designing a plan to blow up the sun.

I can't believe I'm one of the top 20 posters. I'd estimate that at least 90% of those posts have been to the Chicago thread and then some recently on the gay thread. I read the L O S T thread, but rarely post there.

However lex (?) did have a point that I tend to put up a series of small posts.

Jesse, Sunday, 27 May 2007 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

I want to thank my 2 supporters, whoever you are. Unless you thought you were voting for jessie, in which case, mucho boo-hoo.
