FAP April 21st in London - We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Following on from here I am in London for the afternoon & evening of the 21st and was wondering who is around and up for a pint with a stranger off of teh interweb? Stevem will be my escort and hopefully vouch for me (judge that as you will!) but not knowing anywhere except The Calthorpe I'm probably not the best person to choose location if people do fancy meeting up. Preferably if it could be a place near a decent pub/club/den of vice* open after eleven if possible. I'm staying in Hackney so if it wasn't a million miles away from there would be great. It doesn't have to be there of course just somewhere within taxi distance.

*not really.

kv_nol, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Assuming I'm in town, I will drink a beer with you.

Ed, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Not in Hackney itself I beg of you!

I actually haven't been to the Calthorpe in quite a while so wouldn't mind that particular vice den although is it open after eleven? I dunner! GAWSH has it been that long? The P4kenham round the corner is CERTAINLY open late doors groo sigh oh my head.

Sarah, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Would it be beyond-sadistic-and-out-the-other-side to suggest we FAP in The Castle.

1. It is near Hackney but still central enough to be accessible
2. It is open until 6am. 6am!
3. It has an internet jukebox which therefore contains every song ever!

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Would it be beyond-sadistic-and-out-the-other-side to suggest we FAP in The Castle.

FAPAGEDDON

braveclub, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Castle sounds good, how busy is it likely to be around 9pm?

blueski, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

I don't mind really, I know nothing of this place you call Hackney though I must admit Sarah's post has given me the fear! Also "(wine £6 a bottle)" = the end of days! Anywhere that's not too mad but doesn't mind a bit of noise is fine with me. Also internet jukebox is a plus, I could play b*witched and drunkenly irish dance for you all, you lucky things.

kv_nol, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

That pub sounds good actually, and it's not *that* far from Whitechapel = great for me (alternatively with 6am!!!! closing THE PUB IS YOUR HOME).

Sarah, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

I'll cancel the hotel so :)

kv_nol, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

I have actually woken up there on several occasions. Usually with an angry staff member poking me aggressively with a mop or something but last time they were actually very friendly and made me a cup of tea.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, that's the same weekend the EMP fest is happening and where our own Mark Sinker will be in Seattle. TRANSATLANTIC FAP. Kinda.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

kv your hotel is in trendy shoreditch rather than hackney propah, fret not.

blueski, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

This is the place where Lex always tries to take people at the end of the night when he can't stand up properly, yes? :)

Sarah, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Now that sounds like a good recommendation! Shoreditch? Hackney? It's all "not Dublin" to me...

kv_nol, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

We're also a stone's throw from either Tayyabs or Brick Lane. Curry beforehand anyone?

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, that's the weekend I'm coming to London and I was going to start a thread! Can I piggy-back into yours?

We're staying in London's trendy Oxford Street, I think, though this (and, indeed, the whole trip) has yet to be confirmed. 6am drinking sounds like ruinousness taken to extremes. I'm not very good at saying no and bowing out, though I will have the mister in tow, and he's better at it.

ailsa, Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

I am in favour of curry beforehand to line the stomach for prodigious feats

Ed, Thursday, 29 March 2007 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I have hear talk of this curry. I'd have to check with social secretary and get back to you all though! Ailsa, FAPs are for everyone. I doubt I'll reach 6 a.m. either but it'll be fun trying.

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

a colleague claims mirch masala pips tayyabs. would like to try it sometime altho it's a few minutes further east down commercial road.

blueski, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Why not? Let's try it...

Sarah, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

I love it when a plan comes together.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

This is possibly the least amount of fannydangle on any London FAP thread.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

There's 3 weeks left for it to all go haywire Matt!

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

IN

emsk, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I will probably come to this. Had fun at NedFAP. Also hi Ailsa!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

hello Poo, please come to the pub and let's take over teh interwebs jukebox with Half Man Half Biscuit songs all night :-)

By which I mean flights are booked and hotel is booked and ailsa-FAP is GO! (or "ailsa can't be arsed organising her own FAP so this conveniently-timed one will do just nicely thank you very much"-FAP is GO!)

ailsa, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

OK, as long as we play Look Dad No Tunes, I'm in.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

oh the bad castle

too many of my memories of this pub involve one or more of a) raving b) being really really rude to random strangers c) passing out

the jukebox is a money-eating device, £1 per song but we were trying to operate it the other week and had just about managed to spell out LIL KIM when some boy came up and asked for stone roses, so we had to cue up loads more songs to stop him, then i think we told him to fuck off

lex pretend, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa-FAP

Check out the ego on yer wan...

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, when it was just me, it was a Watercooler thing, I think, that it would be ailsa-FAP. And now it is no longer just me and my FAP which is good because it means I don't have to rely on the sheer force of my interwebs presence to make people come and drink with me (last time, this generated THREE people). Hurrah.

ailsa, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

too many of my memories of this pub involve one or more of a) raving b) being really really rude to random strangers c) passing out

Ha ha, excellent! Looks like you'll have company of sorts for at least two of them (I was very good at b) so had to give it up to preserve life) if you're coming.

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I have just been alerted to the fact that it is MENTALISTS RUNNING ROUND LONDON weekend that weekend. Oh noes!

(is this pub in a place where we can get a bus back to Oxford Street at ruin o'clock?)

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I feel it's time to lose my FAP virginity soon, but I think it's my Aunt's 70th this day. I could pop along late, I suppose.

chap, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

What's this about mentalists? Do come chap, be good to meet you.

kv_nol, Thursday, 5 April 2007 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa, there are 2 night bus routes from there-ish to oxford circus.

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

hehe, also this is my payday and what with glasto ticket and trip away i am skinto mcskint for the next fortnight, so i will be excited about drinking then :)

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

Mentalists = teh Sunday is LONDON MARATHON DAY. I look forward to waking up in London to find Paula Radcliffe pissing outside my hotel:-)

(this is going to curtail our whizz round the touristy places, isn't it, hurrah)

ailsa, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:27 (nineteen years ago)

heh, 'whizz'

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

Mirch Masala is indeed wonderful, and very cheap (huge main courses for £2.50-£3). Nice staff too.

braveclub, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

LONDON MARATHON DAY

Oh shit. That's going to make getting to the airport a bit of a pain :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

So far as I can gather the plan for Sat is: a) Dinner at mirch masala b) Pints at the Castle c) Ruin.

What say you Londoners and Ailsas of ILX? Is this suitable for everyone? Where is a good gathering point [ha ha I very nearly wrote 'pint'] for pre curry meeting up? This is a v sad question and feel free to mock but should we make reservations?

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:26 (nineteen years ago)

Oh arse, I've just remembered I have a friend's birthday drinks this Saturday. Said friend is a) a bit of a psycho and b) wanting to go to an indie club so I suppose I could flake out and come to the FAP instead.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

Also if there's going to be a biggish group for the curry it's worth booking. Can't help you on pre-curry pubbage though.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

'pubbage'

why, you almost sound like ..... ......

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

Your Plan for the evening:

Shimura Curves at the Metro, Oxford St
Curry
Jukebox pub

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

Bludy hell, said birthday event is taking place at the Metro, I had no idea about the gig. I think just ducking out after SC's would look somewhat conspicious... what time are you guys on?

'Pubbage' is established ILX language so none of your lip, G.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

its almost as if you saying 'we've always been an oxbridge element to our board'

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

We are on first, apparently more dronerock than indie, I have been told many times who we are supporting but I can't remember.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

Won't make it to SC, will go for catch up pints instead. Catch you for the curry and Castle.

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

"pubbage" is not an oxbridge term. it is lame though.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

Also to prevent thread going on derail trip (I'm sorry for being such a thread fascist) might the other SC thread be revived? Sorry, it's already daunting enough trying to meet interweb strangers without the whole worry of trying to figure out who's coming to which etc!

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

I will revive that thread shortly, yes

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

None of us bite, but some of us main make statements that in the cold light of day, may be intellectually insupportable.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I will be in London on 21st. What are chances.

g-kit, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

G-kit: plz 2 come 4 pintz!

Ed, I'm sure you're all lovely, it's you lot who should be worrying... This is all getting quite exciting now I must say!

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'm working during the day, so I'll have to arrange stuff and change my getting home planz, but this shouldn't be too much trouble.

g-kit, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Another chum has recommended Mirch Masala to me so I am excited!

Any ideas on timing of this lark?

G-kit!! BRING DS INNIT!

Sarah, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

Also numbers for reserving tables etc (As we speak I am holding a clipboard with a whistle around my neck and knees are earnestly scrubbed under well ironed jungle shorts)?

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

what time are you going to be around in the evening from kv?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

I arrive half 12 in the afternoon so prob in city center by half one or so. The friend doesn't finish his bidness before five or so. Still thinking of what to do in the afternoon. Was thinking surrealism at V&A either on the Sat or Sun, depending on ticket availability etc. That said, London is huge and terrifying so might just hide in hotel until we're all meeting up!

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Go to the surrealism exhibition! My gf is one of the team behind it.

Mark C, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

who is in for the curry then? going to book it soon - we're now looking at around 7.30pm for this tho OK?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

We are supporting the Loves and the Strange Idols and ... I want to say the Patty Winters Group but I'm probably getting that all wrong.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Patty Winters Show. Not group. That's Edgar Winters, who is not playing with us.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, not so sure about surrealism but I'll chance my arm on the day for tickets. I have sat on the Mae West couch in the Dali Museum in Florence, my claim to fame etc. How long would it take one to do the V&A?

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

allow a couple of hours at least - even the cafe is awesome.

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Steve put me down for curry action please.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

oh lol, maybe i best not come to this lest i get my ass beaten.

g-kit, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Matt plz bring Rob as I wish to engineer meeting of the minds.

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

WTF? Why? (xpost to g-kit)

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

I think i just have one of those asses.

g-kit, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Steve - meeting of the minds may have to take place some other time as he'll be at the birthday drinks I will (probably) be attending later.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

All this code-speak?! What's going on people :)

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

There will be bare knuckle boxing with G-kit taking on all comers.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

again.

g-kit, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

(I actually don't know what's going on)

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Appears you're against G-Kit in the ring.

kv_nol, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

What time is Shimura gig? This may be very good indeed - we are staying other end of Oxford Street from teh Metro and were planning a West End kind of an afternoon, so meeting people there would be excellent. Probably count us in for Mirch Masala as well, I guess. Hurrah!

ailsa, Monday, 16 April 2007 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Should be doors 7:30, on stage at 8 I think.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm. Does this rule out curry? We can do our own eats and make our own way to the Castle, I suppose.

ailsa, Monday, 16 April 2007 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Argh, okay I was a bit worried that this would get a bit confused. I'd like to eat sooner rather than later tbh if only because I know from years of pubbage (it is a horrible word!) what my limits are. Also I'd like a chance to chat to people before the madness and I'm not sure a gig would be the best place for that :) Could meeting at the Castle be the best solution or waiting on at restaurant after? What works for people?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

I'm keen on curry, not so much for gig, I'd rather stay in east end area. Erm, I still don't have any idea what time this is happening but count me in for curry anyway. Meet in pub near curry place first? (NB I have no idea of a suitable one, erm, anyone else :) And go to Castle afterwards?

Sarah, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds good to me. Erm could a person who knows where a good pub is near curry place please come to thread and help us? Preferably one that does ale and stuff, I have a hankering to try lots of different beers. God I love the different beers available in the UK, such a change from the usual suspects here!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently the Castle is quite near, I guess we could go Castle, then go curry, then go BACK to Castle - does anyone who actually knows the pub or area better than me think that might be a better idea? I mean if you ask me we will end up in the Stepney Green Wetherspoons, v. suboptimo, I mean, suboptimal.

Sarah, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

If you're going for curry at 7.30ish, why do you need to meet in the pub beforehand? Why not just meet at the curry place? It's not like there aren't ten and a half hours of drinking time to follow...

Matt DC, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

Haha oh god when you put it like that...

Matt DC, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

I was thinking that meeting beforehand wd just give people some leeway for getting there, and people aren't hanging about at curryplace getting cross waiting for the late people to arrive and so on?

I have been looking at the curry website, I want it all...

Sarah, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

sung by freddy mercury?

Ed, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Freddy MerCURRY you mean.

Sarah, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

Why not just meet at the curry place?

might be difficult depending on numbers and whether it's booked or not. nearby pub makes more sense.

blueski, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

Sarah is wise re. waiting for people in a restaurant v. pub. Matt please don't put it like that again! Okay so, the Castle beforehand. Stevem what time we going to get there if I'm museum-ing it and meeting you at the fancy bridge tube stop?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

Castle from 7pm

blueski, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

I was really hoping to AilsaFAP (and kv_nol FAP), but I have to be elsewhere on Sat Evening. Is there anything going on during the day on Sat? (yes I could read the whole thread but...)

Dr.C, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to the V&A and that appears to be it plan wise for the moment, at least for me anyway. Sorry we won't have you there for the evening though. Cancel plans, meet people off of interweb instead. They'll totally understand...

kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

it's a birthday party of someone I don't even like, but it's important to the missus that I be there, so I shall have to be. Another time.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

Alright, you're off the hook so :)

kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

I have other plans not involving mentalism for the rest of the weekend (though still waiting on Dadaismus to recommend me a Celtic-friendly pub for Sunday, hint hint) so to drag Neil elsewhere for even more than is necessary is tricky - I'm only getting away with this because it's the evening and we'd be going out somewhere anyway. I want curry, but I also want to see Shimura Curves. So many things, so many people, so little time. Aaarrgggghhh!

Dr C, the pub is open until 6am! Come out AFTER the party!

ailsa, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

It's a thought, albeit a scary one.

Are you coming to the ILX gig thing in June, Ailsa? Did I read that somewhere?

Dr.C, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

I might have said somewhere I was thinking about it. I'm still thinking. But only if you're bringing Beryl. Hang on, I could do the Shimura thing then, couldn't I, therefore allowing me to scoff curry this time. I'll think some more...

ailsa, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

Beryl? I dunno - only if everyone promises not to mob her.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

Voice of Reason: If you brought her someone would be bound to let something slip, you would lose Beryl's favour and I'm sure that's not a good thing at all at all.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I started the new Earthsea book this morning, it is full of wizards w/ EPIC SOUNDING NAMES and the like, Sparrowhawk, Tehanu, Hara, and all that, but suddenly it has mentioned a "grey wizard of Roke" who goes by the name of BERYL. Either Dr C's Beryl is a great sorcerer in her spare time, or Ursula K Le Guin has done in her nutloop, if you know what I mean. I suppose when you've written so many books, you start getting confused about names (that is not a good thing for UKL tho)!!

Erm yeah so pint, curry etc. I might be off the sauce for this, my finances are dire, but then again I say this quite frequently and always change my mind when faced with THE BAR so...

Sarah, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

So I should be coming to this, but not to curry cos skint. To save me reading whole thread what time are people going to be at the Castle?

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Probably from 9 on. Does that sound about right?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Beryl? I dunno - only if everyone promises not to mob her.

I read that as "nob her" and was briefly appalled.

braveclub, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry.

braveclub, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

i think i'm going to be pushing getting back from stevenage after the match to make the curry (esp as there is a BUS to hertford before train rest of way grumblegrumble) for 7.30...

...also if we have lost and burton and york have won i will be GLUM

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think half seven is set in stone. If people can text if they're going to be very late an executive decision can be made by those already there if they'll wait for the stragglers...

kv_nol, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

that means it can't be booked tho - and just turning up might not work (no idea how busy the place will be at that time).

blueski, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Well let's book for 8 (6 definite, 2 possibles) or even 10. If worst comes to the worst: Don't give 'em your card details and we'll get a kebab!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

Bump bump bump. Don't forget about us, folks!

(I'm now skewed towards curry rather than Curves, on the grounds that I will probably come down for ILXorpaLOLooza or whatever the hell it's called - Neil would much rather curry than gig, I think)

ailsa, Thursday, 19 April 2007 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

It has just occurred to me that I don't have the phone number of anyone going for curry, I don't think. If anyone (Sarah, kv_nol, Steve - is Lixi going, I have her number - anyone else) wants to email me their mobile number today, that'd be peachy so as I can alert people if we are running late/decide to Shimura instead?

ailsa, Friday, 20 April 2007 06:16 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Matt or Steve (if you're still mods) can you please put place and time in the thread title, because "don't know where, don't know when" isn't exactly "yo, we have a PLAN", is it?

ailsa, Friday, 20 April 2007 06:37 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, Sent mine to you by webmail. Any probs getting it I'm on kn0l4n80(at)gm41l.c0m (Apart from the eight and zero everything else is letters).

Very excited I must say. So the plan is:

19:00 At Castle
19:30 Curry (I don't know where, blueski to confirm)
21:00 At Castle

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

I should hit the castle around 11, don't anyone be having traditional english ideas about but opening hours.

Ed, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not coming any more, sadly, as I should probably prioritise my friend's birthday. I might join you guys at the Castle in the early hours though, depending on how things go.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

That's a pity Matt, hopefully we'll see you in the wee hours so.

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

Also Ed, good to hear.

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

i too have a birthday thing to attend, i too may drift or stumble into the castle as and when

lex pretend, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

That would definitely complete the Casle experience if comments upthread are to be believed!

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa, alix will be along yes

blueski, Friday, 20 April 2007 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Check your email blueski! Ailsa, did you get webmail?

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

i am babysitting sunday morning so will not be able to throw self as wholeheartedly into Spirit of Ruin as i would like. hm. i think i will do gig>pub, but i want a curry too. anyone else doing gig want to come to later curry?

emsk, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

Alright people, looking forwards to seeing you all tomorrow. Best of luck with gig musical types, I hope for blow by blow accounts after. A demain!

kv_nol, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

I could do a post gig curry, to pad myself against ruin, I'm supposed to be putting in an appearance in mile end though as well.

Ed, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I could do post-gig curry with Emsk and Ed, that could work. Aargh.

kv, you have mail (I don't interweb at work, I'm afraid)

ailsa, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa, I got your mail and replied, thanks. Just waiting for taxi now.

kv_nol, Saturday, 21 April 2007 07:03 (nineteen years ago)

Back at desk: Reality is a bit of a comedown! Fantastic meeting you all and having faces for the names (sorry about going on about yours Colonel Poo, it is a fine name). My apologies for skipping out so early, C had his course and I'd had a skinfull (as I'm sure was painfully obvious!).

Sunday lunch was superb, truly The Calthorpe is King among London bars and Young's Beerzlol are worthy courtiers! Ailsa, hope N got to the science museum, I was remiss and didn't bother going to British Museum, sun and beerzlol after a sleep in proved too attractive!

kv_nol, Monday, 23 April 2007 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't leave until at least 4.30 am. Over the time I was there, there was 100% turnover of FAPpers for the first time ever - when I left there was still a big group of us with a sizeable ILX contingent. Yesterday was a smoking ruin.

Lovely to meet you kv_nol, and to see Ailsa and others again.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 April 2007 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

This was great fun! I feel a bit bleh about leaving so early, but I did have a baby to visit the next day and didn't want to overwhelm the mite with BEER FUMES etc. I still cannot believe my curry was a meatshake. Not sure if Mirch Masala is as good as Tayaabs, but if I will play the "weekend specials" lottery!!

Great to meet everyone new! (And sux0rs to everyone else I already knew, errrm).

Sarah, Monday, 23 April 2007 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

By some strange miracle I managed not to get lost walking to Moorgate to get the night bus! There's a first time for everything I suppose. Got home about 3am.

Good to meet everyone!

Colonel Poo, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

Ed: Did any other ILXors show up that we hadn't met? That's a shame!

CP has a better sense of direction than me because on Sunday I took the wrong turn (I think) from the hotel (which I wouldn't recommend tbh, trying to hard to be wid da youf e.g. instead of "Do Not Disturb" the signs said "**** Off" which I really didn't like)!) and ended up wandering around the area for half an hour trying to find Old Street. When I did finally find it the station was closed grrrr. Ended up walking up to King's Cross in beautiful sunshine so a winner was me in the end!

I thought the food was great but I was a wimp and went for the safe option so I can't be trusted obv :)

kv_nol, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

more reasons to love that pub: i left my wallet there and i called them on sunday and they said they had it so i went to get it and THE MONEY WAS STILL IN IT omg omg.

emsk, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

hey everyone who left before i got there (do not know what time this was) = lame! you missed me!

stayed in the castle til the end; my saturday night eventually came to a close at 5pm on sunday.

i feel a bit tired today.

lex pretend, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, the entire FAP had left by the time you arrived, except me.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

That's true - sorry for being so late. I wasn't really making any decisions on Saturday I was just sort of drunkenly trailing about.

Anna, Monday, 23 April 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

That's great about the wallet, I would never have expected it. I suppose anywhere with big signs warning people not to take drugs doesn't exactly lend itself to trustworthiness!

Sorry to have missed you both, next time for sure!

kv_nol, Monday, 23 April 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Oh noes, I missed Lex and Anna! I had a toptastic time, and I learnt how to be rude in Swedish sign language, and I don't think you can ask for any more from a night out than that. We didn't make the Science Museum, instead opting for the London Eye and some crappy animatronic dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. Next time, next time...

(the Lex, I saw your drunken attempts at text messaging, how in the holy hell did you manage to get yourself to the pub?)

We really needed to do something about that jukebox though. 2 millions songs, and we get subjected to Richard Marx and Keane?

ailsa, Monday, 23 April 2007 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and... http://www.mangosteen.com/

ailsa, Monday, 23 April 2007 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

(the Lex, I saw your drunken attempts at text messaging, how in the holy hell did you manage to get yourself to the pub?)

OTMFM!!! I could only recognise Bethnal, couldn't even guess at the rest!

Ailsa, that looks like something that came from a dinosaur, yuck!

kv_nol, Monday, 23 April 2007 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

hang on what text messaging? i don't have your number ailsa! i didn't text anyone last night,,,

lex pretend, Monday, 23 April 2007 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

I said I saw it, I didn't say it was on my phone. And it wasn't last night, it was Saturday. You texted something like "in bethbalxxlkxglksgjlgks dglkdsjf elksflzx geklsafjd;" to Matt DC.

kv_, were you at the other end of the table when Neil admitted paying something approximating to the Brazilian national debt for two of those things in Harrods just to prove a point to my mother, who didn't believe there was such a thing as a mangosteen? There was one getting passed round the pub at one stage. He remains stupidly proud of it. It's sitting looking odd in our fruit bowl now.

ailsa, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

I remember Ailsa, I wasn't shown it I don't think. I even remember they cost 19.00 a kilo (WTF?!?!). He is obviously mad. Matt, if you have that text still, post it for all to bask in it's garbled glory...

kv_nol, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

I believed I'd asked him about the location of the pub they were all in at the time - the response I got read 'beth0a5ph betg bethnal iqnfmx grennnfeefrenn'. It's okay, I understood.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Doing better than me then. I just got into a taxi at Liverpool Street with Marianna (drunken decadence), went east and spent half the night mournfully stating I hadn't a clue where I was.

Anna, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha that sounds like my entire weekend, I must have driven poor blueski and Alix (HI ALIX HOW IS LURKING TODAY?) mad going on about "how big London is! Do you ever get lost? God, isn't it huge altogether?" etc etc.

Matt I impressed, a pity you weren't around Bletchley Park during the war, you could have been most useful!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - that was largely my fault though Anna. I fancied myself a Pathfinder General - and indeed found many paths.. This way, that way; this way, that way..

Nicholas Passant, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

You know Nick, I really have no clue how long it took us to get home. Plus, listening to my extended amounts of waffle, I'm not surprised you got lost.

Anna, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 09:32 (nineteen years ago)

It was actually pretty quick. And where it wasn't, I was cynically extending the walk for the sake of the chatter.

Nicholas Passant, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

You're a gentleman.
