She sure is sexy in Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

A friend of mine dated her for a couple of years in high school.

Douglas, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Hmmm. I'm not so sure. I am alarmed by the size of her forehead.

Steve.n., Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

you see, the forehead is the key. get her and Helena B-C for clash of the foreheads, FITE.

A bit like an arm wrestle but butting over a table top would be so cool.

Kirsten Dunst is better.

I like Christina Ricci because she can act really well, is really attractive, and doesn't look anything like a Hollywood woman.

DV, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

she looks an awful lot more hollywood since she lost all that weight and became a skinny malink

nickie, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Skinny Malink - that takes me back. "Skinny Malinky Long Legs, Big Banana Feet!" Where is it from?

i always liked Christina (esp in the Addams films and Buffalo 66) but she is in danger of doing a winona by tackling things like Prozac Nation (is that out yet?)

Jeff W, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i like thora birch and all but in ghost world i preferred scarlett johansson muchly, i'm so tired of dealing with enid-types.

Buffallo 66. I appreciate Christina.

Hank, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I hope Prozac Nation is never released, for Christina's sake. I've loved her since Mermaids! I even saw That Darn Cat.

Arthur, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

She was unaware that the US didn't have a national health plan and thought Paul's Boutique was the first album by the Beastie Boys. She's an idiot.

Samantha, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

feh. not only is she a frightening, moon-faced apparition of blah (and people who like her only like her BOOBS, just admit it), in interviews she's about as interesting as plywood (MDF for those in the UK). PLAIN plywood. not even pressure-treated.

-- Samantha (glowgurl79@yahoo.com), January 24, 2002."

True. And almost *all* teen actresses are idiots. What constantly fumbles my ass, though, is how so many of them get these insane write- ups where huge amounts of hyped-up glowing nonsense are extrapolated from either a) the most idiotically obvious against-the-grain career choices ("oh snap she turned down a disney movie and did a heroin flick in a bloody pistols shirt so she's a freethinking ingenue queen, what a natural, yeah" - witness C. Ricci, almost every shitty indie actress ever) or b) physical beauty (usually in the jailbait- chasing patrician-ideals way that old men film writers do, where as long as the girl is hot and isn't acting like a suicidal hedonist hollywood stereotype she is a "beacon of purity and precocious wisdom" - witness N. Portman, almost every pale white bitch in movies that was fuckable at 13). This happens a lot less in music (the pervy nonsense extrapolation part I mean). Basically, I'm saying, I think Ricci can act, Buff 66 was awesome, she's highly fuckable in a Sir-Mix-A-Lot way, but that's it. The only actress I worship is Sarah Silverman, for some weird reason. She be my queen. Chill.

Ramosi, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Recent thing Sarah Silverman did that only amplified my luv: she actually starred with Norm McDonald in "SCREWED", 40 scattered moments of which were the funniest shits ever. Rent it (it's a horrible movie).

Ramosi, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

she be my queen

Luke, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

sarah silverman is wonderful, i love her. and i didn't know she was in screwed, now i can rent that and actually have seen every norm macdonald movie. oh he is wonderful also, can somebody start a thread about him?

ethan, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Norm MacDonald is the funniest guy on Earth. He went on "The View" and started calling Bill Clinton a murderer. They basically threw him off the set! Screwed is awesome (what the hell is Danny Devito doing there?) but it's sure as hell no Dirty Work.

Kris, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i haven't seen dirty work in years, what the hell is wrong with me? i did the 'NOTE TO SELF' bit for like a month after i saw it.

ethan, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Norm McDonald' s the sexiest comedian since, I don't know, Buster Keaton.

Whomevah, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i feel like i should have a counter-example to that but for now, agreed.

ethan, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The eternal Christina Ricci problem: how will she ever top "Addams Family Values" - one of the greatest films ever, and possibly the greatest sequel ever?!?!

Tim, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i'm so tired of dealing with enid-types.

ethan, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

They should do a film which is a kind of clash of the good child actors who grew up to be good grown up actors.

I can't really think of anyone to have in it apart from Christina Ricci and Anna Paquin.

DV, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

How about Jodie Foster? (though I actually liked her more as a child actor)

Justyn Dillingham, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oh, and as for Ricci...she's okay, but Prozac Nation looks like it's going to be a second-rate Girl, Interrupted, which was itself a second-rate The Bell Jar, which was itself a second-rate Catcher in the Rye.

Also, her favorite book is The Fountainhead and she desperately wants to star in a remake of it.

Justyn Dillingham, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Prozac Nation the book = one of the most self-indulgent whining pieces of trash evah, so the only way the movie could be any good would be if it was done as a send-up of Wurtzel.

Nicole, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Christina Ricci is not an idiot! She did score, like, a 1200 on her SAT's. She also can act! I mean, what other teen actress' have you seen play a russian opera singer, a hooker, a vixen, a smart ass, a manic depressed woman, a dominatrix, a goth, a pyro and more! And who can also do a good job doing those roles! By the way, when she ties her hair back, she does got a big forehead, but that just passes me right up! She can be very exotic looking when she wants to be.

joel, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

She's been phoning it in the last few years, just kind of mooning around sadly. If she doesn't watch out Thora Birch is going to have her job.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

She kind of can't help mooning around, not with that face. (Okay that was really mean. I'm sorry; I do like her.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

"a russian opera singer, a hooker, a vixen, a smart ass, a manic depressed woman, a dominatrix, a goth, a pyro" = all covered by word GOTH, surely?

Ron, Monday, 13 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think her turn in Buffalo 66 is one of the best performances by an actress in the last 20 years or so. She is great. I have no idea whether she will keep being great, as I thought Jodie Foster was magnificent but I haven't liked any of her films in ages. She has matured badly, and this may happen to Christina too.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

She was absolutely God-awful in The Ice Storm. I just wanted to kick her in the arse most of the time and tell her to bloody well grow up.

Her breasts couldn't save Sleepy Hollow, now matter how much Tim Burton tried.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 7 July 2003 04:31 (twenty years ago) link

She appears in some of my all-time fave films (both of the Addams Family movies, The Ice Storm, Buffalo 66, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), but she could've easily been replaced by another actress in those films and the result would've been the same; all of those films had far more notable performances by the main actors (Raul Julia & Anjelica Huston & SChristopher Lloyd, Kevin Kline & Sigourney Weaver, Vincent Gallo, Johnny Depp). Haven't seen any films where she's the solo star, though, so I can't really comment on her acting skills.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

Man, I may as well tell the rest of the j3r3my p1v3n story, fuck it.

Here's the beginning from the "half of your best anecdote" thread:

A friend of mine was holidaying in Miami and she met the actor J***y P***n at a club. He asked her over to his hotel for breakfast the next morning, and strolled out to meet her on the restaurant deck wearing these kind of silky swim shorts. So anyway, they sit down to eat, and he starts saying to her, "Everything I do, I do HARDCORE-drugs, sex, HARDCORE", and he's shifting nevrously under the table. So the he keeps asking her to feel his shorts, ranting on and on about the fabric and

and after breakfast, he asked if she wanted to come up and see his hotel room. Now, she was kind of hesitant because he was kind of creepy, but he WAS j3r3my p1v3n, so what, really, could happen? So they go upstairs and he has a nice suite looking out onto the beach and she's looking around the room. She stops to look into a mirror and something catches her attention in it - p1v3n's reflection, as he is splayed out on the bed behind her and he has his shorts around his ankles and his cock in his hand. And he is apparently HUGE, on some uber-John Holmes type tip, just ridiculously well-endowed. As soon as he realizes that he has her attention, he smiles and blurts "I know! Isn't it SCARY?" (his exact words).

After that, it gets fuzzy, but she pretty much made her excuses and left.

East Bay Crackhaus (nordicskilla), Saturday, 17 January 2004 16:56 (twenty years ago) link

The words "I know! Isn't it SCARY?" became something a catchphrase among my friends for a while after that.

The CR story I heard: Friends of mine discovered that one of their coworkers went out with Christina when they were 13 or so. But he broke up with her because "she blew all my friends."

If you could work R1cc1 into it, even better.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 17 January 2004 17:36 (twenty years ago) link

Okay, I have a friend, let's pretend she was R1cc1. She kind of looked like her anyway so that works. This friend was very into being Irish despite being of dubious Irish descent (what with a name like R1cc1 after all). So for some reason I now can't remember, we went to some Irish books conference in San Francisco. This was about seven years ago, which would make my friend R1cc1 very young, around 19 or 20. Reading at this conference was G*br131 B*rn3 who had just published some book on being Irish and how special that was or something. Maybe it involved poetry. I don't know. At any rate for some reason we were invited to an after party somewhere, I don't even know where, but I do remember that there was a shrine to Pedro Zamora there. I was getting drunk by this point so things began to get slightly weird for me. Mr. B*rn3 showed up at this party and R1cc1, who was obsessed with the film M1113r'5 Cr0551ng, and counted Mr. B*rn3 among her top ten people to want to screw, glommed onto him. At this point in her life she was not an undesireable person, certainly not if you were in your late 40s and kind of washed up and smelled like cigarettes and had bad breath and would easily be mistaken for a bus driver if you weren't in a bunch of movies. The party then moved to O'Reilly's pub in North Beach which had just recently opened and was oh so very Irish. She continued to hang on him. I continued to drink. AT some point I left and wandered home to the east bay, I'm not even sure how I got there but it might have involved a cab ride and a lot of money. I was awoken by a phone call from her crying from a hotel back in SF. She had spent the night with B*rn3, a night which had hardly been very romantic, but had involved his apparent request to "lick her asshole"; apparently, also, Mr. B*rn3 was not very P1v3n-esque in the endowment department. She was fine with all of this, but then he had offered her a wad of money an asked her to leave when the morning came around. She asked me what to do. I said "take the money and go home," which she did. She tried to contact him several times after that to no avail.
Okay, that wasn't as exciting as the P1v3n story but what can you do? The only other gossip that came out of it was that he still considered his actress ex-wife a "good friend." I don't know if he licked her asshole though.
