a) physically he's above average- looks are nice, strong, tall, healthy looking. polite and soft spoken but hunky and confident. most likely well-endowed.
b) professionally- he seems to avoid all controversy or challenge, co-stars with actresses that most women can relate to. very agreeable.
c) personal life made public- laid back, avoids fame but lives in style and comfort, intriguing. total stoner and mellow guy that just wants to have fun, to savor life, to please. he's unpretentious, subscribes to some kind of spirituality, a bit aloof.
he's a typical pleasure model

The Fight for Celebrity Privacy Turns Violent Fed Up, Surfers Take on Paparrazi in Malibu By DEBORAH ROBERTS and LEE FERRAN June 23, 2008
The paparazzi know that they can sell candid pictures of stars for a big paycheck, but often they don't realize how much it might cost them to get that perfect shot. Surfers and paparazzi fight over Matthew McConaughey's privacy.
A photographer trying to snap shots of actor Matthew McConaughey surfing in Malibu, Calif., this weekend sparked a brawl between more than a dozen enraged surfers and several paparazzi, some of it caught on video.
"They don't want you here," a surfer yelled at a photographer just before the brawl broke out. "Nobody wants you here."
The video of the confrontations, which took place on two consecutive days, shows surfers surrounding the paparazzi and, then, when the paparazzi refused to leave, fists flying. Several photographers took punches to the face.
"Let's draw a line and we'll fight for the beach," the surfer told the photographers. "If you win, you can have the beach."
The beach brawl is the latest of several incidents involving the paparazzi in the tony beachside community that's home to a number of celebrities, according to Malibu Mayor Pamela Conley.
"We're getting major complaints of people getting put in harm's way," Conley told ABC News. "We have reports from all over Malibu that people are feeling their public safety is at risk."
Balancing Rights With Safety
To address Malibu's safety concerns, including several instances of paparazzi taking pictures in elementary schools, a First Amendment conference was held last April.
Attendees included representatives from the ACLU and Kenneth Starr, the lawyer and former judge who was the special prosecutor in the Clinton-Lewinsky case and is now the dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu.

adam scott:
"I shot with Matthew McConaughey [in the last episode of season two], and he was the most confident person I had ever come in contact with. He's kind of become this mythic figure in show business. Like, when he came on the set it just got quiet – everybody’s just in awe of this guy, because he’s a terrific actor and everything but he also has this persona of being … it’s almost like he has this outlandish persona in the vein of Brando or something. Not as eccentric, but he just adds a presence – he kind of walks in the room before he does, you know? And he just looks incredible, his skin is perfectly tan, he smells just amazing … you’re around him and as a man you just feel like your penis disappears."

"We found a great rhythm," Matthew tells OK! about the delivery of baby Levi. "Contractions started kicking in. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it, we danced to it! I was DJ-ing this Brazilian music."

The Texas-born actor says he cut the umbilical cord in "one snip" and got to hold his son for the first 15 minutes while doctors worked on Camila. Both he and the Brazilian beauty -- who waited to know the sex of their baby -- say they were not surprised to find out they had a boy.
"I said, 'Come here, little man. I saw the pecker and screamed that we'd been right all along about him being a boy. Then I brought him over to her [Camila],' Matthew said.
is it wrong that I am imagining McConaughey trying to beatmatch "Bucky Done Gun" to his wife's contractions

Mr. McConaughey is well aware that there is a perception that he was coasting in those interchangeable romcoms; he maintains it was harder work than people think. “I’ve done romantic comedies that were more difficult than ‘Killer Joe,’ ” he said. “The work is to keep them buoyant. If you dig deep, you try to go to the reality and to the humanity, it’s a 12-minute movie.”
i buy this btw
I won't overrate Grisham adaptations if you and Matt don't overrate his romcoms

The Onion AV Club does a "Random Roles" with Patton Oswalt today, and this happens:
Failure To Launch (2006)—“Techie”PO: Again, one scene. Me and Sarah Jessica Parker. She was a delight. I remember doing the table read with Matthew McConaughey before she was cast, and his dad was not played by Terry Bradshaw. It was Paul Dooley. He was the best. I said, “You are my favorite movie dad.” He was in Sixteen Candles and Breaking Away. And I think the mom was played by Kathy Bates, who was also amazing at the table read. Then McConaughey shows up in bike shorts and no shirt for the table read. I was sitting across from him, and I could see his right testicle.AVC: He literally was shirtless for a table read?PO: Yes. If I looked like that, I’d be shirtless, too. I think he showed up on his bike, so he legitimately had been out biking.

the synopsis for his new one (SERENITY) is uh....
SPOILERS
The film takes place on a fishing island. Fisherman Baker Dill receives strange visions. Businessman Reid Miller is chasing after Baker with urgent news. Baker’s ex-wife Karen suddenly appears and tasks Baker with killing Frank, her abusive husband. Baker appears to have a telepathic connection with Patrick, the son he had with Karen, and through that decides to put aside his goal of catching a large tuna called “Justice” to help Karen and Patrick. When Reid finds Baker, he explains he works as a fishing equipment company sales rep, and wants to give him a complimentary fish tracker. However Reid inadvertently reveals to Baker that he is a character in a video game Patrick is playing. The real Baker died during a war, and his son has reprogrammed a fishing video game to live out a fantasy of killing his abusive step-father.
