Unmitigated dud!

I mean, is it common for scars of blisters to remain a full month after wearing heels?

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

D!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

obviously a classic.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

in moderation, of course.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

unmistakably dud. i refuse to wear them. stupid.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I literally can't stand up in them unless I'm holding on to something.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i can walk in them. i never wear them though.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

pointy toed witch high heels = dud.

brock (brock), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

a classic. i wear my bandolinos like they're a pair of sneakers.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ladies who wear them: Classique

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

also classic: heels with jeans.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yes.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

well it's a bit fratty but i like it nonetheless.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I always assume people who claimed not to be able to walk/stand in heels are being a bit melodramatic. Really, they usually have more arch support and are more comfy than flats.

mouse (mouse), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

from the way men in drag look awkward and uncomfortable, you can tell that it's not just melodrama. i have one pair of heels. i got horrible blisters once when i was wearing them because i had to do a lot of walking. very impractical for college campuses, etc. but i find it unacceptable when people wear stockings with sneakers, esp. black stockings and white sneakers!

youn, Monday, 29 November 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Really, they usually have more arch support and are more comfy than flats.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Um, there's a good reason why I own more pairs of flats than pairs of heels, and the reason's NOT that I want less arch support and less comfort.

(This, to me, is like telling me that thong underwear is more comfortable than briefs are. Which, I know, has been claimed dozens of times before, but I ain't buying it.)

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe all this shows that it's a matter of opinion, like anything. i can walk perfectly well in high heels but i don't find them more comfortable than flats, particularly stilettos, the balls of my feet ache after standing in them for long periods. however they do make me feel sexy so i wear them on special occasions but not to work every day.

i find thong underwear/gstrings heaps more comfortable than briefs.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i second thong statement.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

on the ladies? riding boots >>> heels

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I could understand the stiletto people more than I could understand the thong people, because thongs to me seem to be like permanent wedgies, and I could not see how that could be comfortable. Stilettos, OTOH, might feel bearable and totally walkable after some practice.

(I guess I could put a "this is my own personal opinion" disclaimer here, sure.)

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

but when you get a wedgie with normal underwear it's like SO MUCH WEDGIE. with thong, you don't even notice the wedgie effect. try it!

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

thongs when you have your period = DUD BEYOND BELIEF (tmi)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

caitlin is right! i can't even feel the thong but if i have briefs on they're always creeping up or getting twisted around.

also tampons do not interfere with thong wearing.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pleased to say I have neither worn nor owned a single pair of high heels. Dud.

I'm not weighing in on where this thong thing is going, though.

Laura H. (laurah), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Thongs are appalling (in my opinion); if your panties fit, they won't creep or twist. All of which goes to show that yeah thongs/heels/etc = all a matter of taste. And perfect for a c/d thread!

mouse (mouse), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This many posts, and no one has asked Lee what he was doing wearing high heels in the first place?

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i thought leee was a boy? what are you?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the trick to making heels a "classic" for you, is finding the right height. i cant wear stilettos at all, but heels 3 inches and under are perfectly awesome for me.

jeans and heels are not "fratty" though the look is certainly co-opted by many college co-eds. heels have a great way of taking any ol' jeans and t-shirt look and turning into 100% hotness.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet you have to have long hair.

youn, Monday, 29 November 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

naw. hair has nothing to do with it.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The heels walk is the classicest of classics. It seems like heels are worn less and less with every passing year, thereby making them even more classic.

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i wore stilettos with jeans out on saturday night, boys dug it

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's good.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i also love kitten heels with jeans, the heel you wear when you're not wearing a heel!

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

also classic: heels with jeans

please tell me you're kidding? this is one of my most hated fashion faux pas!!! stop wearing heels with jeans right now, arrggghhh!

heels, hmm, wear em about once a year when i am dressing up as like-a-prayer era madonna. my feet are hella sore the next day. so classic, yeah, in moderation. just give me a pair of docs, thanks, way sexier and more comfortable.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't walk in heels - no exaggeration (ankle and leg problems that turn my feet inwards/sidways, thus meaning it is impossible to be comfy or balance). Personally I dont see the point of them, they fuck up your calf muscles and feet.

xpost Di says it so I dont have to, heh. Sorry gem, I think heels and jeans are ... well, um, really Chapel street fake tanned blonde? Y'know? :/

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry for not being very diplomatic about the heels/jeans look.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

different strokes *shrug* i'm not blonde nor fake tanned anyways.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been scouring google for some pics of that 80s era ad where women play basketball in heels and all that's coming up is transcripts of an snl skit where they made fun of it. useless interweb.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ignore them gem. They're just being arch.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you have me confused with my fellow Dutch swimmer!

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't rally like them. I think the whole point of them is that they are hopelessly inpractical. Rendering the wearer static, or reliant on other people to help her get around.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dud dud dud. Painful and I don't need to be any taller. They are kind of sexy, but that's more because of the kinky submissive impracticality than any intrinsic aesthetic thing. I am a massive fan of the kitten heel however.

As an aside re: the fratty thing, how weird is it that female students still get called co-eds in the US? Like it's still special in some way for girls to be at university.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Heels - dud, ouch. I've tried and failed to wear them on many an occasion. When I practise walking in them around the house or try them in the shop I'm perfectly fine - as soon as I step outside I'm like Bambi on the ice.

Flats every time. Oh, and tights? DUD.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I like heels, but not for everyday.

Just Kate (papa november), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i always have to wear shoes with at least a little bit of height, or else i feel like a midget.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic
http://www.afifest.com/fest96/films/stills/highh.gif

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It took that long to become a picture thread. For shame.

Jesus Christ, Paraplegic (Mark C), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm pretty crap at wearing high heels (or any uncomfortable shoes, really). i've got a pair of 2.5" strappy sandals that i've now worn twice for 'events' and both times the balls of my feet were killing me within minutes, even using those 'party feet' insert things.

i suspect that it's just something that people get used to, but i've never been motivated enough to wear heels regularly. i'm tall enough that i tower over most people, so don't 'need' to wear them. i'm also too poor to take taxis everywhere, which i suspect would make girly shoes more practical for a night out.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

If I was a woman, I don't think I would wear them.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The practicalities of high heel wear is lost on me, but from a male perspective, high heels are great. Doesn't matter what women wear, high heels make ladies sexier. Everything is improved (except maybe playing basketball).

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I love heels, but heels don't love me :0(

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember that basketball ad. It was for easy spirit high heels! "looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker"

I have a few high heels. I only wear them very rarely b/c of the towering over people thing. I love all the vintage-esque shoes this season, but couldn't wear most of them (besides not being able to find them in my size) because the heels are too tall. If they were 1/2 or maybe 3/4 of the height, that would be perfect.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 29 November 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

High heels hinder my dancing, so I don't wear them much anymore. I have some really nice ones though, it's a shame.

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

High heels hinder my dancing, so I don't wear them much anymore.

This is a very good point - if you're wearing heels, you always end up doing that kind of dancing that involves minimal foot movements.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't! But I've had lots of practice.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Clearly, I need to practice more myself then :-)

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i used "co-eds" because using alliteration can be fun, sometimes. i dont think ive ever referred to students in that form, ever. personally, i prefer the term "kids", especially some of the lunatics that are on this campus.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

also, i was not joking about heels and jeans. perhaps YOU dont like them lucy, but for a lot of people they look really nice. its just a shame that various folks wear horrible jeans and fuck the look up.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

thats definately a classic look madchen, but for me those heels are way too high. just like a lot of people on here, ive got foot problems [thank you, competitive figure skating!], so i cant wear anything too high. plus, the higher the heel, the more it makes me think of foot binding, for some reason. and i dont like that.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

earl jeans dark rinse w/ a very slight flare are good for the heel/jean look.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of agree with Di. I have rarely seen the heels/jeans look carried off particularly well.

Just Kate (papa november), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I a freak? I wear heels to work a lot, 3" ones, and with jeans. I have ankle problems but I still wear 'em anyway. I don't think heels/jeans is not as silly as those kitten heel flip flops that were out this summer.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Leeeee why were you wearing heels?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i think a cute pair of trainers or kinky boots are much sexyer

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"is not"="are"

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I love heels, but then I'm only 5'2" and a lot of my friends are tall, so it has some practical application.

Heels with jeans is so widespread in Britian I would never even have considered commenting on it.

I love them. They do make me feel sexy, true, but more because they acentuate the way you move your hips than any idea of domination (this is a wearers view, not a watchers). But I will wear heels for job interviews or any other situation where I need to feel in control. I need the extra height, I don't like people, both literally and metaphorically, talking down to me.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I was wearing them to complete my outfit!

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

They are kind of sexy, but that's more because of the kinky submissive impracticality than any intrinsic aesthetic thing.

Not true. The effect they produce on a woman's walk is sexy, and they make one's calves and ass look better.

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you *know* what they're doing to said calves, and back muscles/spine so you guys get to perv on that walk? Ay yi yi.

Gem I hope I didnt offend you btw! I wasnt suggesting you were a fake tan blonde!!! :/ Its just thats all I see around where I live - those awful jeans with the HUGE rolled up cuffs, and white pumps under it. Uuuugh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I have extremely, dementedly high foot arches. My mom used to call my feet "Barbie doll feet". Shoes with some heel tend to hurt me a lot less than flats. Flats that are not really padded sneakers press out my arch sometimes, if I do anything besides pretty delicate walking--I fall more in them and it causes pins and needles sometimes in my feet.

So, yeah, I can see why someone would say 3" heels are much more comfortable than flats.

Why would someone roll their jeans if they're wearing heels with them???? Trayce, I think you live in Madness City! I've only seen women, including myself, wear quite long jeans with heels, unrolled*; I think if I saw them all rolled up I'd be a bit scared too.

* this is untrue, some girls put on those capris and the heels but I'm wholly against capris anyway so I will not defend this look ever.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

YOu should only roll your jeans if you are rolling cigarettes into the cuffs. Or you are Mary Tyler Moore and it's the 70s.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

What if I'm Scott Bakula and I'm just inhabiting MTM's body for an episode?

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What if you're Sally Fields and it's the 60s?

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Then you should only sport this look while doing the frug.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Since we're speaking of really bizarre jeans and shoes situations, what is with the people who wear really high boots that AREN'T galoshes and tuck their jeans into it? This is especially bad when they buy bootcut or flare jeans (ie like 99% of jeans that seem to be available these days???) and try to shove them in, cos it gets all bunchy. I've seen girls in thigh high boots with jeans on, underneath! It makes me think of Robin Hood.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't believe this really happens! it sounds amazing!

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

If you must rock the fuck-me-boots, you must do so in a fuck-me-skirt.

That is the law.

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if the fuck-me skirt is tucked into the fuck-me boots.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I dont know what madness is bids to tear my 'hood in twain, as it were, but seriously I keep seeing these jeans with a fat folded up cuff, like not rolled up, but one big folded up bit. Oh lordy it looks ridiculous.

I guess I can see how elegant pinstriped slacks or bootleg jeans could look ok with a heel. I think heels look good in the right way too, I have to say. I just cant wear them, for aforementioned podiatric spazmo feet reasons :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

See, that doesn't make a lick of sense

x-post

I like CFMs, I have to confess, though I dont wear them all that often cos I get paranoid someone will think I'm a prossy.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I refuse to wear my thigh high boots with anything but a skirt, the other way lies madness and forestry adventures and possibly mud bogging.

I think the people tucking bootcut pants into their boots just like the lumpy calf look. "Hey baby, check out my sexy lower-leg bulges; they are like King Kong's varicose veins, only SEXIER!"

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the boot tucking is part of the whole "hippy / folk" revival that seems to be all the rage with kids these days.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i've noticed that there's a difference in acceptance of the high heels with jeans thing here in the uk. in michigan, that's totally 'trailer trash,' and so i can understand what people are talking about when they say it looks bad. but here, it's pretty much the norm. and i've seen loads of girls with jeans tucked into high-heeled boots this year, it seems to be all the rage. i think you have to be a size 0 to get away with it, though, so haven't even considered going there.

xpost-- If crotched ponchos come back into fashion, I am going to start a war.

that is such a fantastic typo. seriously, though, is the poncho not everywhere outside of london? i'm so sick of them! they hardly look good on anyone. and often worn with jeans tucked into boots, should be said...i think this look only works for sienna miller, really. and kate moss.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to break up the crotch ponchoing but unfortunately I see women wearing those ALL THE TIME on the east coast of America, Trayce. I want to set those ladies on fire :\

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't understand why things my parents wore in 1978 have come back as acceptable fashion statements today.

xpost no, I would not set Dan's wife on fire. I did try to set someone else on fire in her presence, once. I don't think she was that pleased with all that either, but I could be wrong since she was willing to hang out with me again.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

High heels are classic and I would wear them everyday if my feet were not so flat and I were not so lazy and if my mom had not warned me to wear sneakers on my first date ever "IN CASE I HAD TO RUN." I tend to be drunk while wearing heels so I can ignore my bleeding foot. I also do this great trick where I fall down a lot, usually on the sidewalk, in front of old Polish men, or because some FRIEND OF ALLY'S THROWS ME DOWN.

I don't do heels with jeans but am ok with this look as long as the jeans fit well and the heels are expensive. I am so shallow.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

High heels on me would be questionable. Crotchless ponchos equally so.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Now, see, I can sorta understand a crotchless poncho on a guy...on a cold day at the Folsom Street Fair, say.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Heels are classic because the alternatives are hemming, stapling, or rolling up the hems of my pants (buying pants that fit is wonderful but very, very rare with the small selection of stores I've got access to). Also I know they're not fashionable, and certainly not sexy on me, but I love huge clunky platform boots. With lots of laces or buckles, preferably.

I like the idea of ponchos but the ones I see in stores are always kind of drab looking. If you're not going to have a really soft or warm or otherwise lovely poncho, you could at least make one with pretty colors, right?

Ponchos with heels - classic or dud?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

There's nothing like high heels to say to a man, "I abuse myself in public. Come join the fun."

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, I know, I feel the same about men who wear ties. I mean, talk about parading your asphyxiation fantasies in public. No wonder so many men get strangled.

I can't believe I let a shoe thread go this long without posting.

I've gotta jump in and define the one acceptable and really hot way of tucking your jeans into your boots: they must be motorcycle boots, and you should be wearing a motorcycle jacket.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

And the jeans must not be bootcut. They must be slim fit people, pencil legs, tapered!!!!

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

tapered jeans must die a horribly fiery death.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ewww, tapered jeans are just nasty. Unless you're one of the few women with no hips- on most people they look horrible.

Heels 2" or shorter I'm fine with- no problems wearing them. It's the ones that are taller than that which I refuse to wear for more than a few hours every once in a while.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

id wear a crotch poncho before id wear tapered jeans.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

if i wore tapered jeans i'd look like i was wearing a barrel around my hips. lyra is right, they look good on women with no hips, on everyone else... pearshape-city

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Ally's point was tapered jeans if they're going into the boots. I mean come on, shovelling flares into boots is like tucking your jumper into your undies.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

See now this is why a crotched poncho would be ok - you could tuck that into your undies and k now I really will get me coat.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Crotch ponchos are everywhere in the Midwest this Christmas. I blame Jessica "My daddy's the best kisser in the world" Simpson.
I don't agree with high heels with velour tracksuit bottoms though. Declasse high.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

there are lots of crotch ponchos here in WA too, including in the shop i work in at weekends. how am i going to keep a straight face when customers ask for a crochet poncho now?? inappropriate laughter will be all your fault trayce!

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, dudes, don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating the wearing of tapered jeans under any circumstances besides ones I've already said are actually at least vaguely abbhorent to me. Please, let's all have a hug.

I personally won't even put on straight legged jeans for fear of BUM HEAVINESS.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. I have huge hips anyway I don't need to look like I'm about to go fox hunting.

those little turnup cuff ones that are all the rage here at the moment are tapered i think? i would like to ban them, they are not bumflattering on most girls

hmmm... when i have a boyfriend i am usually proud of my curves too since boys dig curves i find. i lose confidence in it when i'm solo though, and then my hips seem so much bigger than my waist and it all feels horribly out of proportion.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate my belleh, but it really is preggers-huge at the moment and out of all proportion with the rest of me, and I cant do up my pants :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

we are all so different aren't we, even when i gave up smoking and got pudgy i still always had a flat belly. the weight goes straight to my bottom for me. maybe that's why i'm self-conscious about it.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm confused by the hatred for straight-legged/tapered jeans. they might be the best kind.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Straight legs - good, tappered legs - bad. (The thighs the limit)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren, I finally got my ass in Sergio Valente jeans (when Loehmanns was carrying a shitload) and love love love. I never thought I would love tapered jeans so much, but due to the 2% lycra content they are comfortable and they seem to make my legs look much longer. This is why we love boys in tight jeans.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I can understand hating tapered jeans, because most brands make you look like a paunchy penguin because of the cut or the quality of the denim.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yes! best jeans ever, right? i'm really worried... my only remaining pair are starting to wear out after like 3 years of near-constant use.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, after trying them on I almost bought all the remaining ones in my size (only $40! Loehmanns luv luv luv) They had like 5 different styles too. I feel ashamed that the ones that I loved were the DIVA style. I can be your jean bitch and be on the lookout for when more pop up there. I think they also had Yanuk, Chip and Peppers and Earls for about $50. I can't seem to get those jeans over my ass though because of the lowrise.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Tight pants are a little hardon the boys.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Tight leather pants, male rock star style - they must have the leather specially stretched on one side or the other, and this eliminates the problem. Myself, I dress to the left.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Honestly I just think that a lot of the rock stars sporting these pants don't really have much of a package.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, basically pants that fit too snug around the waist or thigh are gonna make yr boxers crawl into bellybutton territory, at the end of a workday you have the elastic well up above your beltline and you find yourself taking a trip to the bathroom just to push everything back into place, it's a fucking hassle.

WHO SAYS BOYS IN TIGHT PANTS WEAR UNDERWEAR?? Iggy's pants always seemed pretty tight and his dick was big enough. Time Life's Mysteries of the Unknown...

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

too long of a thread and I imagine halfway down it descends into perviness so I'll just add my two cents to the initially raised questions:

-heels, classic without a doubt.

-heels with jeans, not so. Very 2003 and def. frat-ish. I'm loving pointy-toed kitten-heels or flats with jeans right now.

-I defintely find thongs more comfortable than briefs and if you find the right size and proper fit "wedgies" are not a problem. Also since you can get liners/pads in thong style (not to mention tampons) periods are not an issue. (who has periods anymore anyway? Sooo 2002.)

tapered are cut to fit tightly down through the ankle. the anti-flare, as opposed to the wonderful straight-leg cut which is more like non-flared. as silly as they often look, i can't bring myself to hate tapered jeans because they are the polar opposite of flares and flares = the grossness.

I live v close to a subway station. Half the sidewalks are covered in subway grills. But girls wearing heels can't walk on subway grills. So they have to walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk. So everyone not wearing heels has to weave back and forth between the the people who can walk on the right side of the sidewalk and the people who can't. Funk that.

Well, I think there's a metal rod inside the heel, actually, so they'd be grinding it down...also then the toe would probably point up, since the hinge was made for the front to be flat on the ground relative to the heel height. I've never considered it...perhaps ask a shoe place? Pref a good one, tho, since this sounds like a major project.

Re size too big: you can put in halters, which are the little cork pads that push your feet back into the heels. It seems like a pain for a full size, tho.

Now I'm curious -- what is up??

haha nothing really. i just wore some 4 inch heels yesterday and realized i can't walk more than 10 blocks in them. and so i was looking at flat boots online and found the exact same pair as a comfy pair i already have, but in brown, on sale, but they are a size big.

^but if anyone's an 8.5 (i think they run a little big, im usually an 8 but got at 7.5) these are awesome boots

In my opinion there's no point in getting shoes that don't (quite) fit, but maybe that's just how I talk myself out of the more borderline purchases that I don't really need.

Four inches is quite a lot of heel! But when would you be walking more than 10 blocks when you wd also be dressed up/secksy enough for such boots?

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

almost always! there's not really anything worth dressing up for in my hood (wore them to a sushi restaurant last night, eh)

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

I like to think that my walk to and from the subway (from my house) is the longest trip I'll make all day. But then you probably could have guessed that.

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

well, my work is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the nearest subway

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

Oh ew, I forgot that! That's what I hate most about going to your work, actually.

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

well, it gives me an excuse not to join a gym

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

bell labs, it has been a hard and somewhat costly lesson to learn, but to buy any shoe that is not your size or does not fit well is foolhardy. You'll hardly ever wear them and when you do it will be a hell.
