I fucking adore Achewood -- got hooked after reading The Great Outdoor Fight story last winter. Ray and Roast Beef in particular are unsettlingly real to me, for internet cartoon cats. LOVED the strip a few days ago where they found the guy who invented Comic Sans.

― bernard snowy, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)
There was recently a interview with Onstad in the Onion AV Club and they printed the first publically-known photo of him. My first thought was that he resembled some past minor Achewood character, like he had anonymously drawn himself in. But I can't recall which character.

no way! bros don't have super circular heads, wear purple turtlenecks, rock Lennon glasses, and hang out in front of gothic architecture. his posture might be sending mixed signals but there ain't no way this guy is anything but a geek.
― iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)
You should read his blogs, he complains about kids in much more expensive houses than his sleeping soundly knowing their parents invented the Google color scheme.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)
I love how little his cats are anthropomorphized, ie they have the weird gangly legs, long torso, and big thighs of a cat. Inventing the whole Underground thing to explain how they get to Subway is pretty genius, too.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

For me nothing beats Phillipe being possessed by the soul of Billy Joel. "Ray you old punter! Got a fag for your mate?" Despite this phrase supposedly being British, I think I am the only person in Britain who says it. It drives my boyfriend mad.

Roast Beef is my worst case self and Ray is my idealized self.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)
I suspect that may be implicit in the strip re: Onstad
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

― DJ Mencap, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
phillipe is a bit twee yes, but i guess kids just are, that's were twee comes from innit. roast beef is just a classic misery case comedy character, but mr smuckles kills it.

Philippe's fucking great. Yeah, a whole comic with nothing but Philippe would be a bit much, but as one character in an ensemble piece he's a fantastic alternative viewpoint, he's twee BUT HE'S FIVE ffs. I love Philippe.

Much as I love all the characters, I think I would get the waiting motorcycle, from the last panel of the strip in which Ray and Beef burn down the Great Outdoor Fight grounds, as a tattoo. It is a powerful symbol of hope.

kev, do they deliver to the UK swiftly? is postage pricy? i want a stoned lightning tee shirt.
― stevie, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)
I'm in Ireland but I think it's much of a muchness. The cost of postage isn't high, it's pretty normal for the US to Europe. They do bundle things though which means that you save a bit of money. It is very slow getting to you, they only have one person (I think) working with them on the mail outs so things can get a bit held up. It normally takes about 2 weeks all told. They're very good with emails though so if you're worried you can email and expect a reply.
In short: Buy it.
― kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)
In re: blogs
They're way worthwhile, espec. Ray, Beef, and Cornelius.
Not essential, but next time you embark on a re-reading (as we all must do at times), opt to read them instead.
There's a storyline in there with Ray as a "silent partner" in a pub Cornelius runs that is A++ Can Do With a Yes Attitude.

they can't all be winners. let the man explore the occasional dullish thread without immediately invoking that ghastly meme. sheesh.
― andrew m., Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
yeah I thought the whole nice pete kidnapping philippe & bensington butters storylines were kind of off-kilter too until they played themselves out
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry! I don't really see why Onstad needs to create a character who's relatively one-dimensional (so far, maybe?) or maybe obvious, like Nolan. And it bugs me he looks exactly the same as Edgar Allan Poe.
― Mark C, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)
my sheeshing was good-natured. i don't like nolan so much either.
― andrew m., Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

― andrew m., Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)
nice pete should kill nolan
― mookieproof, Thursday, 6 December 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)
I think he is funny, but he is no Nice Pete, who is an Honest Raised Man.
― Abbott, Thursday, 6 December 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)
yeah so it looks like nolan from the internet went the way of dornheim smuckles.
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)
wtf ever happened to the robots?
I miss Chucklebot. Dornheim Smuckles was the most disappointing new character in years.
― Abbott, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:35 (eighteen years ago)
chucklebot is so gay
yeah, i love ray and beef, but i miss vlad. i can see how many of the characters are somewhat limited (t-t-t-todd, lyle) but it seems like there should be more lines for molly. maybe a return of tina too.

except for "179,213 topics and over 23 replies!", they need a racist bottle opener thread, or something on the topic of tipping.

Whatever happened with Cornelius' Tattoo? Is is a great lost plotline or will we hear more?

― stevie, Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Absolutely beautiful strip today. I've just finished reading Acme Novelty Library and this is such a perfect parody of chris ware. Very sad too!
― Slumpman, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
omg i hadn't seen cornelius w/cricket bat! :D
― Just got offed, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)
Not that I'm implying anything but there've been at least a couple of Achewoods in the last two months or so with these really crepeily specific refs to blowjobs
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:58 (eighteen years ago)
Holy shit yeah, spot on Chris Ware, but I thought it was making fun of the Ware sad and not being the actual sad sad.
― Abbott, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:59 (eighteen years ago)
What's crepey about blowjobs?
― Rock Hardy, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:33 (eighteen years ago)
a spat out blowjob under a concrete bridge which results in crusty jeans leg and the lady drives home by herself? pretty creepy!
― Slumpman, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)
guysguysguys don't let this turn into assetbar (which used to be kinda diverting when there were only like 20 comments per strip, but is now absurd)

These new strips are just like fucking Chris Ware! Overwhelmingly great to look at, but boring, and they make hardly any sense. (Well, today's one with Vlad.)
― Abbott, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

― Abbott, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

self-evident
― El Tomboto, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)
philippe as candidate had the bonus of all the other characters trying to help him out. nobody can tell smuckles anything, therefore kind of boring
― El Tomboto, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)
But, but, but, you guys, this went from 30 to 65 to Mach 4 in about seven panels. I'm prepared to play out a little more line...maybe this is a male-pattern-baldness-induced dream.
― Rock Hardy, Monday, 28 January 2008 22:18 (eighteen years ago)
uh i don't know, i like ray and all but this is like is approaching bart-simpson level in terms of character overexposure
― elmo argonaut, Monday, 28 January 2008 22:21 (eighteen years ago)
uhhh typos
― elmo argonaut, Monday, 28 January 2008 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

― Rock Hardy, Monday, 28 January 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
i think this could be good if taken way, way farther. not that i want to force another GOF-like epic tale, but there is potential here!
― Jordan, Monday, 28 January 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)
maybe this is a male-pattern-baldness-induced dream.

― stevie, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

― WmC, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
yeah that's what i heard. really sucks for a self-supporting business that's essentially based on the goodwill of his readers.
i think he needs to get the strip back on a regular schedule, not because of anything on a readership end but because he's said in every interview he's done that he doesn't pre-plan and you can tell when he's not in a rhythm at all. i liked it when he could do a two or three-week story arc and then a run of normal dailies--he needs to get back to some of the longer and more involved stuff. it also seems like he doesn't really know how to develop his characters further, which is funny because two or three of them are still pretty untapped.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 20:56 (seventeen years ago)
I think he's still trying to figure out how much new stuff to put behind the paywall without driving people away.
― WmC, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 21:00 (seventeen years ago)
it's funny because i would have paid if he started that up right after the great outdoor fight. now? not really in the mood.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 21:01 (seventeen years ago)
the last part of the interview he did on Sound of Young America was all about dealing with his newfound success, basically how he's having performance anxiety and trying to figure how where to go with the strip.
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
I'm behind the paywall and it's not expensive for some of the gems you see. It does seem to me that he is determined to move everything except the strip behind said wall which rather may spoil Achewood for new arrivals. I don't know though, when I found it there was no context bar the alt text so what do I know?
I feel bad for him though with the move. There are one or two characters I'd like to see more of. I'd like more of the Molly/Roast Beef and Cornelius' new love affair. I'm willing to give it a good chance, I was looking over the books a while ago and while not every strip is gold the vast majority are very good.
Is that online perchance?

Probably best to just plow through from the beginning- there are certainly highlights (the Great Outdoor Fight being an obvious example) but they all build on hundreds of strips' worth of characterization.

It's probably best to start with a storyline like The Great Outdoor Fight. I remember plowing through the archives when I started and man was it painful, the art was even cruder than it is now and in general the humor wasn't nearly as good. Lots of long running webcomics are like this, though.

Michael was our music. The next time you’re out alone in your car, and Smooth Criminal comes on, it’s gonna mean somethin’ different to you. You’re not gonna change it this time. You’re gonna hear it and think to yourself, “I missed knowin’ his music in the moment.” I don’t blame The Cure. That was your call. The Cure is just out there, like car horns or people who make noise when they cry. The Cure is a choice. When we hear Michael, it is not a choice to feel the beat. It is not a choice to cock your head and straighten all the fingers on your right hand.
There is a reason Ray is the man. This paragraph does a lot to explain this reason.

This always seems shit if I follow it 1 strip at a time, but what made me like Achewood in the first place was the cumulative effect of reading the archive about 50 strips at a time. That way the more nothing-y strips just fill in the gaps between lols without being a a dissapointment. Not to say I don't think the quality has declined.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5a/Garfield_1989-10-27_right_panel.png
One storyline, which ran the week before Halloween in 1989 (Oct 23 to Oct 28), is unique among Garfield strips in that it is not meant to be humorous. It depicts Garfield awakening in a future in which the house is abandoned and he no longer exists. In tone and imagery the storyline for this series of strips is very similar to the animation segment for Valse Triste from Allegro non troppo, which depicts a ghostly cat roaming around the ruins of the home it once inhabited.
There was some speculation on the internet about what these strips meant[57], including the possibility that Garfield was either dead or starving to death in an abandoned house, imagining future strips in a state of denial.

― clotpoll, Sunday, 6 September 2009 05:57 (sixteen years ago)
I don't see how he could know about them. He might go back in just because he's sick of life, though.
My first thought back when OnStar locked Ray and T in the Caddy was, "this thing's catching fire sure as the world, and Ray's going to get even richer from suing the fuck out of OnStar."
― Hugh Manatee (WmC), Sunday, 6 September 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)
it doesn't indicate whether roast beef's getting back on the wheel or not; the door closes but we don't know which side of it he's on
― congratulations (n/a), Sunday, 6 September 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)
I read it as:
1) Roast Beef notices the Exit door while fixing the Karma Wheel,2) finds Molly asleep in their old shed on the other side,3) looks back at the duct that he broke out of,4) decides not to return to life with Molly (yet),5) ventures back to the tube to see what fate has in store.
I think the panel with the burning Escalade is just a cutaway to let us know that the boys are still trapped.

― this must be what FAIL is really like (ledge), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 10:17 (sixteen years ago)
it does almost feel like a response to the criticism, or like he felt he just wanted to end a troublesome arc... in the previous strip, it certainly seemed as if beef had closed the door on molly, and returned to the big wheel (which i don't even understand).
― all that heroin and he choked on the damn mouthpiece (stevie), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 10:19 (sixteen years ago)
at first I thought, "wait, what criticism?" and i remembered again that the comics actually have comment threads which i never see
i'm a little confused here. roast beef sort of kept going along with this whole death arc because he was depressed enough to believe that everyone else was better off without him. so the ending, where he ducks out of it and returns to his life, he feels regret because he didn't go through with it after all? does that sound accurate?

so my parents came to visit a few weeks ago, stayed at this hotel with a nice restaurant upstairs. mom got the oatmeal one morning, liked it a lot, you know, no big whoop. anyways, because she's a huge weirdo/lonely housewife, once she returned home she had to go and send an email to the hotel raving about how good the freakin oatmeal was. she got a response from the sous chef of the restaurant and was proud enough (for some reason) to forward it to me:
I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you enjoyed our oatmeal Brule. I have attached 2 recipes for you, a couple of notes once you pour the oatmeal in your bowl top it with a light coating of sugar and Brule it with a blow torch, then top it with the apricot compote, shaved apple and nuts. If you do not have a torch you can find them at Williams Sonoma. I know that the recipes make large batches you can cut them down to fit your needs, the apricots will last in the refrigerator for a month and make a great addition to cheeses or toast, just as a thought. If you have any questions about these recipes please feel free to contact me. Have a great day and we hope to see you the next time you come to Milwaukee. I def don't think that's it. I think it's more about the disappointment of building up something huge and towering in your mind and then things are simply mundane and mediocre. Your parents look a little older, the reunion isn't only happy, there's all that stuff (like the fact she couldn't take care of him in the first place!) that still hasn't been worked out.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:51 (sixteen years ago)
but what's steve deneuve's place in all this??
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:55 (sixteen years ago)
He's just this guy, who's smart and can see that that old lady can't have a five-year-old. I figure he'll talk to "mom," and she'll gently break it to Philippe that she can't take care of him, he'll secretly be relieved, Steve will take him back to his real home, hugglez. Hopefully they'll get sidetracked on the way back to CA by something totally insane.

Is the premium section still active? I guess I can't resent him for wanting it to be a money-making venture, but it's a shame that the downsizing of the free strip coincided with a low point in terms of quality.
― Mark C, Friday, 15 October 2010 12:15 (fifteen years ago)
No updates anywhere, recently. I would guess he is working on something, and has to deal with the book publishing aspects, but this is still utterly ridiculous considering the clock's just sitting there ticking for everyone who's paid for the premium update subscriptions.
Which apparently is me, on auto-billing. $3 a month for nothing, Onstad!

― mh, Friday, 7 January 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
no, yeah, he's often made bitter remarks about how if he stopped "nerds in honda goldwings" would crucify him. i appreciate the difficulty.
pretty sure what he wants to do is write, which is why the strips these days are so often just huge blocks of illuminated text. i mean, i don't know where his money comes from or how important it is to his family that he keep writing the strip, but if it's not absolutely necessary i kinda think he should stop and write his novel or whatever it is he wants to do. (also he's been dropping hints about adult swim for years, but that's obv out of his control.)
― difficult listening hour, Friday, 7 January 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
i mean it's not really any of my business of course but the strip is so infrequent and seems so grudging and depressed (and no longer all that funny about depression, like it's trapped inside depression instead of being able to observe it properly) it just makes me unhappy now.

― lenonsense (Clay), Saturday, 8 January 2011 04:23 (fifteen years ago)
re the drawing: i think cartooning is something he kind of fell into, as a way to write strange ornate very in-character dialogue. (although i think there are lots of places in achewood where his clip-art minimalism can be really striking.) in the last year or two (probably from beef's wedding on) the drawings have become less and less relevant, except in those occasional weird chris-ware-aping things. he's also done a lot more prose work elsewhere which i'm glad of because i'm sure it makes him happier than the strip does, but personally i'm not a huge fan of his prose -- think his linguistic gift lends itself mostly to voice and character, and when he's writing as himself it just reads like mid-level "shouts and murmurs" (writing for which btw he told me a couple years ago was a big ambition of his).
re portland: ha yeah i'm up here too and i kind of worried about him when he announced he was joining us. notice that he does way more complaining these days about hipsters/memeculture than he used to in california.
anyway when i say "he should stop doing the strip" what i really mean is "i hope he succeeds in finding something more fun", and i'd totally watch the achewood tv show, if it ever happened.
― difficult listening hour, Saturday, 8 January 2011 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

I looked at "achewood dot com" today because nothing fills my heart with more joy than a long-dead web comic displaying its last update, an unfunny mess that came after an erratic tapering off period, an unfunny mess optimistically promising lots and lots more updates! Updates all the time! He's got it on a randomizer, though, so if I wanted to see the one last futile promise of lots more content...it's there somewhere. Somewhere in my heart! If I ever commit suicide, that's the kind of note I'd leave. "Lots of updates, I promise!"

Teodor's blog has some doozies in it also
Bill’s wife Shelley or someone had turned on one of those Pottery Barn holiday CDs in the living room, and some rich people were “getting loose,” inasmuch as there were basically quotation marks surrounding everyone on the dance floor, metaphorically speaking. Women in thin white sweaters and tall leather boots with spiky heels were physically moving around on top of the cream colored carpet in ways that said, “Sex with me will be a painfully one-sided, seven thousand pound letdown after a long, horrible night of lying to yourself.” One particularly wild woman had taken her shoes off. Perhaps she had been at Woodstock, or knew how to hold an ocarina.

― I Don't Wanna Be Dissed (By Anyone But You) (WilliamC), Friday, 1 March 2013 04:09 (thirteen years ago)
it does feel a little flat but maybe that's because i'm already familiar with the jokes. i can't imagine the comics being acted out any other way. timing does seem weird.
the voices are certainly jarring but again... i don't know how i'd expect ray to sound. the voice as-is is a little weird, but i hope and assume that will be refined. i think i might have expected ray to speak with enthusiasm in the place of a funky accent.
my least fav voice is philippe - just seems like generic child voice, which i always find grating
agree that onstad was on point
best voice of the test footage was tina though, for sure. "terrible". curious as to how they'll flesh out the less-explored characters. i was always curious about tina and hearing her talk in her terrible voice confirmed my suspicions about who she was i think

Huh liked it better than I thought I would, but maybe that's just because there was ten people itt pooping on it. Onstad actually nailed Roast Beef, but I guess he knows these voices intimately. Ray was close to what I imagined but something is off, like the actor isn't fully committed. Philippe is whatever. Worst was that the comedic timing was weird like many have pointed out, but I still laughed at a couple jokes like Philippe's scone line.
― Vinnie, Saturday, 2 March 2013 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

This reminds me of how a few months ago I was in the mood to look up old Calvin and Hobbes strips and read them and have a nostalgia party. I nostalgia partied for a while and enjoyed it very much. Then, after about an hour, I wondered if anyone had done any amateur animation on youtube, so I went there, and some had, and they were repulsive, and my nostalgia party abruptly ended.
― del griffith, Saturday, 2 March 2013 16:57 (thirteen years ago)
In an ideal world, the Achewood cartoon would be entirely in scratchy hand drawn cel animation, kind of like the old MTV Migraine Boy bumpers. The current footage as it stands all feels a little too...smooth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS8qzkMO3K4
― Pheeel, Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:08 (thirteen years ago)
All these years thinking how well Onstad's non-punctuation and "uh"-prefixing of Beef's lines conveys him speaking in a hesitant monotone and it turns out that Onstad-voiced Beef does not talk in a hesitant monotone
(but yeah, Beef way less jarring than Ray, certainly)
― susuwatari teenage riot (a passing spacecadet), Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:22 (thirteen years ago)
agreed. this computer animation is both too smooth and too weird. in the credits they mention motion capture was used, which maybe explains why it feels like one long uncomfortable cutscene.
i'm only bummed about this because a) i love achewood and b) i've always thought it had potential as an animation.
― The @glennbeck have raisin b-lls and rice crispy d-ck (stevie), Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)
totes
― well if it isn't old 11 cameras simon (gbx), Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)
It's weird to me that anyone might have a problem with the smoothness of the animation itself considering that the original Illustrator vector art is about as smooth as you can get. It was off-putting when the Simpsons made the transition to that creepy all-computer razor-sharp HD art, but Achewood's always looked that way. That was part of its original charm for me, that the guy who created it was clearly just goofing off with Illustrator when he was probably supposed to be at work designing something important.
spacecadet, completely agree - I expected beef to be waaay flatter and 100% monotone.
― del griffith, Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:38 (thirteen years ago)
I agree with this. Re: Onstad's Beef voice, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried it flatter and in a monotone and it just didn't work for a cartoon. Another option could have just been audible mumbling and subtitles, but naaaaah. I think this is a workable compromise.

Ray sounds a lot older than I imagined him sounding. Like 10-20 years older. That cat could be purple, is what I'm saying, but not old.
I'd probably get used to it, but I'm not sure there's any reason to get used to it. I love Achewood. It doesn't have to go on forever, get animated, or even have closure. I'd like to see Onstad do something different, or just enjoy his life beyond the bounds of my awareness.

First time I laughed out loud at something that guy wrote.

that was odd even by his standards

I read a good chunk of it until I gave up hope and bailed on it. It seemed to me he was trying much too hard to write comically, rather like a stand-up comic who constantly inserts long pauses in the story in order to pull a 'funny' face and stare at the audience, begging for laughter.
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Wednesday, 30 November 2016 02:57 (nine years ago)
Every time I relate to Onstad he throws out some bit of internal cruelty or half-recanted aloofness for the human condition that turns me off until the next moment, the point where someone gets mad rutty with a bank teller

Weird, I posted a clip from an achewood strip on fb today (where the judge’s verdict is that Lyle is an Asshole), without knowing it was the anniversary. Muss be something in the air.

Is it still available on the website too?
Are the printed editions that were supposed to begin dropping last year still coming? Anyone like sic know why the Fantagraphics series petered out so soon?
― Enjoy the brighter sounds of Analog on CD (stevie), Monday, 10 January 2022 09:45 (four years ago)
The complete collections were due to start in June 2020; one can only guess at forces that may have delayed the first one, especially if the editor was traveling to the US to work on it.Dark Horse did the fizzled-out hardcovers. Onstad is selling the original tape-bound books for $225-250 rn, and dropped a new issue of Beef’s zine in 2020.
― dark end of the st. maud (sic), Monday, 10 January 2022 17:26 (four years ago)
Thanks sic. Why did the Dark Horse hardcovers fizzle out? Lack of sales, or did Onstad give up on them first?
― Enjoy the brighter sounds of Analog on CD (stevie), Monday, 10 January 2022 20:16 (four years ago)
It looks like this was the announced 2020 release:https://onipress.com/pages/achewoodThe zombie pages still exist on the vendor sites, which, while not a guarantee of anything, means it’s only partially dead
― mh, Monday, 10 January 2022 20:44 (four years ago)
Following that link Barnes & Noble suggests it will come in September
― Enjoy the brighter sounds of Analog on CD (stevie), Monday, 10 January 2022 23:09 (four years ago)
Possibly. I know some publishers/stores will just auto-bump a release date from the original date.

the book question is mentioned here: https://www.theverge.com/23713940/achewood-chris-onstad-return-patreon-ai-raybot
sounds like the tumult of having the possible animated series be canceled followed by a shake-up at the publisher meant it didn't happen

I've been a John Allison supporter on Patreon for a few years but he's gone off in directions that don't interest me, so I'm going to shift that support to Onstad and see how it goes.

― mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:37 (three years ago)
I note that the twitter thread does mention the short-lived artisanal soda company that Onstad was part of that the recent articles seem to have missed
― mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:40 (three years ago)
I did start making weird faces when I read this, though
“I’ve had like two jobs for a total of 18 months in my whole life, outside of Achewood. Maybe it’s time to admit, like, This is who I am. And this is what I do.”
― mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:42 (three years ago)
Had a huge sense of dread reading that Verge piece that he was suddenly going to declare his interest in NFTs or something, small mercies. Pouring so much cash into a novelty AI thing is just nuts though, what is he thinking.
Have to admit to being gutted to hear about the Penn Ward "Great Outdoor Fight" series that got scrapped, that surely had to've been better than the failed pilot from ages ago.
