Tracer Hand's Own Thread

He's an enigma wrapped in a mystery, like Kevin Bacon in Footloose. He is TRACER HAND.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I almost grabbed his privates for $10 last night.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

he shares a b'day me therefore he IS me. Except he is TRACER HAND.

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I know everyone hates the threads where ILE pats itself on the back, but can I just say that Tracer is just a flat-out great guy, and that if I get to New York for longer periods of time in the future I do expect him to hang out now and then?

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

He got a free razor from Gillette like me when he turned 16... that is our common bond. He is TRACER HAND.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think "privates" is an inappropriate word for anything to do with Tracer Hand.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, did you say he's wrapped in bacon? That explains his mysterious allure, among other things.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I would never share a bidet with tracer mark, you are a brave man.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

hoho why aren't you at supergym ronan?

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

My excuse wasn't that I was going to go to the silly promo meeting for that gym, I was afraid it might appear that way. I would never turn down Dublin FAP to do that! I better go and clarify that on the thread itself.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, he didn't smell like bacon!

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer Hand = master of good suave. A perfect person to share a breakfast with in Lower Manhattan at a Swedish eatery.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

i just wanted to post to this thread 'cause tracer is one of my fave ilxors.
so now i have.

donna (donna), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

"Master of good suave" = "schmoozy kiss ass"

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

see you in a few weeks tracer.

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I've said it before, I'll say it again: he looks like Bryan from The Constantines*.

(*Except he is TRACER HAND.)

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I think "privates" is an inappropriate word for anything to do with Tracer Hand.

Taking sides: "privates" vs "publics"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

"Master of good suave" = "schmoozy kiss ass"

Heavens no, that would be evil.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

he gave me some of the best advice of any ilx'er

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

what was it?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Not to answer questions on a public forum.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

And let God sort em out?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

so Ned is just saying that Tracer gets all his advice second hand from Lars Ulrich!

Tracer is cool.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

yes. unfortunately one gray december morn i put his advice into practice. it took seventy federal marshalls to bring me down. now let us never speak of it again.

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer rules. I think he was the first ILperson to reference me in another thread (re: my criticisms of electroclash).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

The first night he met me, Tracer brought me, the guy I was sleeping with, my future ex-fiance, my crazy now-ex-roommate, and a couple ILXers to his friend's party. I have no idea why someone would do something obviously out of their mind like that, but from that day forward, Tracer Hand was my true love.

TRACER HAND.

God I should've went to work today.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Even though his name scares me a little, I do like the enigma and all-around good guy that is TRACER HAND.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

His name is excellent for playing the "I hardly know 'er!" game. He is TRACER HAND.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I like it that everyone is going "He is TRACER HAND", it makes him seem very special and pompous and announced.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:09 (twenty-three years ago)

But I always am, sweetie, aren't I? Aren't I TRACER HAND?

Gosh you guys!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

* recovers *

I mean TEN DOLLARS?! The loose bacon alone is worth that!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

But it wouldn't have been for the money, dude. That would just be the icing to top off your, uh, "icing."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

What nitsuh said, big style. He's one of the people here who I'd buy a drink, rather than just, y'know, go for a drink with them. I mean, with a name like that, and the personality to match. Jeez, some puppies get all the luck.

Back in the 1800s when Canadians didn't know any better they'd leave a jug of skinned oranges out on the back porch for weeks at a time. Then I'm not sure what happened.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I do, I'm loaded!

Sorry, no I'm not.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that the newest masterbation euphamism, Martin?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew that's how this thread would end up.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

You've finished wanking, jess?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer, you shoulda asked me for a drink.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember the first time TRACER HAND appeared on ilx. Actually I don't, quite. But I do remember him saying amazingly erudite things about country / roots music. Wow, I thought. Unfortunately he eventually turned out to be exclusively interested in hip-hop. It is thus a long time since he and I have exchanged views about music.

TRACER HAND has a name so peculiar and interesting that I didn't know what sex he was (maybe 'Tracer' is a bit like 'Tracy'?), and also thought it might be a pen-name. But now I wonder if he is the latest in a long line, descending from Judge LEARNED HAND and his brothers, who made big legal decisions in NYC c. the 1920s. Maybe the Hands *always* have strange and interesting names.

TRACER HAND always writes with poise, wit, a sense of intelligence and control. Yet there is never any trace of arrogance or ego. In this self-effacing quality he feels different from much of ilx.

I can't really work out what TRACER HAND would be like as a real person. Is it true that he is very attractive?

the pinefox, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't encourage him. It's like feeding a dog off a table, they'll never stop if you do it once.

Also: LEARNED HAND! I imagine is pronounced as "learn-ed" like fancy like. That's fantastic.

Tracer Hand is stunningly attractive, some might say Paul Barman like.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was waiting for that reference. Now we shall see the hate.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

'Lernd', son. It's pronounces 'lernd'...

jm (jtm), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Here's Tracer and Prince Paul:

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Pinefox I am going to shush you again if you don't stop making me blush like this!! My name comes from a bull rider. This is a picture of him. He is the REAL TRACER HAND. His dad is a musician and has an album called Evil Things. I was emailed once by someone who knew Tracer Hand's father, and asked if I was the REAL TRACER HAND!! I had to tell her no.

http://www.gutsandglory.net/img/99.7-4.5.jpg

Gah, Paul Barman. AGAIN? I've got other buttons to push, you know.

TRACER HAND (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Even though I used to think Tracer was a wizened old biker dude, Tracer is really even cooler than that. And wizened old biker dudes are cool...

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

If Tracer Hand worked at Radio Shack he would be sublime in his perfectness.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

(Children should not push the buttons on TRACER HAND's "publics".)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Tracer, if he was a beer he would be budvar or tiger.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

tracer hand and nathalie once totally gave me pocky!

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 20 February 2003 01:27 (twenty-three years ago)

There is one sad thing about Tracer Hand: He is so popular that one cannot always get a moment alone with him.

A quick Bombay update. I was not very successful. It is much harder to find women as I thought. No ads in papers, many taxi drivers don't speak english and so on. However, I found the Falkland street district and paid 200 rupees for 30 minutes. $4. Gotta run, more next time.

Timmori Ballou, Thursday, 20 February 2003 06:42 (twenty-three years ago)

From Popbitch:

>> Spacey's hand tracer <<
Kevin has the weirdest stalker

Kevin Spacey has a very creepy stalker in London.

The fan is obsessed with his Spacey's hands.
Every time she manages to get into an event he's
at, she brings paper and marker pens so she
can trace them.

Spacey usually complies, and once even offered
to take his shoes off and let her draw round
his feet.

Strangely, the nutjob turned this down.

(Do you SEE?!)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 24 February 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

there's a local "urban" tv channel (think south africa's answer to BET) called "channel o" and whenever they advertise their website, they show a user logging in with the handle "tracer". maybe that's weird or something. tracer hand is neat.

An article that is not about hip-hop.

From what I can tell, he's kind of like a happy-Lou-Reed-type figure with a lot of funny stories. He lives in London now.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 9 October 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

He has no funny stories. He's totally boring and uninteresting. His hands bleed a lot.

My mistake.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 9 October 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope:

that afterwards, back at home, head bobbing, etc. I yell out to roomie "why'd you turn the music off?" and he's like "what music?" He comes back in. He's looking at me like a lab specimen. "The stereo's been off the whole time." I look down at my hands. They look huge. "What did you think you were listening to?" Sheepishly: "really good house music!!"

Last night I dreamed that Tracer Hand made an LP, on which he did impressions of 5 different musical artists, twice each, adding up to 10 tracks.

I was amazed at the quality of the Bob Dylan impression. It was in 1980s Dylan mode, say INFIDELS or EMPIRE BURLESQUE.

Then there were two Ian Dury pastiche tracks. But I don't recall the rest.
