So, like the favourite painters thread, but this time works of art by your good selves. I'm not posting any of my pictures 'til some other people post their's.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 14 December 2002 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

but that's the same as the favourite artist thread?

http://members.rott.chello.nl/e.visser25/petit%20piscine2.jpg

I post this also 'cause i want to see your work, jel.

erik, Saturday, 14 December 2002 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

okay, this is a bit of a very recent painting (I am pleased with the colours on this one):

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 14 December 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool! That picture makes me happy.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 14 December 2002 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Is erik's picture really as perverted as I think it is?

Curtis Stephens, Saturday, 14 December 2002 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i think it is, Curtis!
jel i like your painting!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 14 December 2002 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

There is a great old Hokusai print of an octopus raping a woman - it was on show at the British Museum a while back. It didn't look quite like this, but I'm a real fan of Erik's art now. If I still edited and published comics I'd be trying to get work from you, Erik!

Jel, that is tremendous! Is it in oils? What size? Are you familiar with Fiona Rae, who I mentioned as a favourite on the painters thread?I thought of her because this reminds me a littel of the last new work of hers I went to see, in a tiny show in 2001.

Here's a painting I did. It's a lot bigger in person. I painted on the box that carried the six foot sub to my super bowl party a few years ago.

And here is something I made with photoshop.

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 14 December 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Erik's and Jel's are great! Can we see more?

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 14 December 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never done this HTML thingy, eek.

http://www.geocities.com/rrrousss/ouarzazateSml.jpg

it's a guy in Morocco, in the place they filmed bits of Lawrence of Arabia. I cheated because I was taking a photograph then copied it. With a bereber scarf tied around my neck like a cravat the locals were asking me if I was a film director. I was well chuffed.

Gordon (Gordon), Saturday, 14 December 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

The shadows are really good in that one.

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 14 December 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I've posted this here before...

Gordon (Gordon), Saturday, 14 December 2002 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

And how come my pic doesn't load: is it because of Geocities or just stoopid moi?

Gordon (Gordon), Saturday, 14 December 2002 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I love that Octopus. He's great.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 14 December 2002 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Is erik's picture really as perverted as I think it is?

I like to lie down on melissa's greensleeves.

erik, Saturday, 14 December 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

here's a piece that's up now in Los Angeles. It's a Chromira print on photographic paper (i.e. there's jagged edges as from a traditional press or even ink-jet). It's about 6' x 3'. Most people ask me if it's acrylic! (I tell them that yes, I have an army of assistants and they're good with rulers).

http://www.alexandragrant.com/images/sc1.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 15 December 2002 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

(rather there's no jagged edges - and the matte finish makes it rather, uh, creamy)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 15 December 2002 01:12 (twenty-three years ago)

also, the other work on this thread is fantastic!

ta.

http://www.imagemagician.com/images/r_gillanders/untitled.jpg

my first one is quite nicer in reality [IMHO] since it has a level of textures/texture of levels to it.

this is one I did. and never went back to. and it has just hung for...well...over two years now, I suppose. I had actually forgotten it was still there. I like it well enough. but I may try to fix it someday.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 15 December 2002 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool pics y'all!!! And thanks alot for the kind words! :)

I have a load of pictures here: http://www.angelfire.com/wy/bby2k/piclinks.html I must update it!

Martin: thanks!, it's acrylic, card and glass paint outliner (a sort of print technique, I trace round magazine pics and transfer them to canvas). That scan is about actual size, the rest of the painting, I'm not so pleased with, scanning is good coz you can cut out the bad bits! Must check out Fiona Rae!!!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 15 December 2002 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 15 December 2002 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

This is breathtaking! I can't believe how much artistic talent there is on ILE!

Jel, your others (thanks for the link) don't really remind me of Rae, so you might not see yourself in her work at all - and it is her most recent work I mean, so I don't know how much of that is on the web, say.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 15 December 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

messed up polaroids are cool.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 16 December 2002 04:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, these are all great! Jel and RJG - tell me that you make at least some money from doing this, otherwise there is no justice.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm insanely jealous of all of you.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too.

I took a 2-D art class in college. When I tried to do a charcoal sketch of my roommate she almost screamed and was like, "Arghh! You made me look like an old lady!" Looking back at that pic, it is pretty funny. I was horrible. But it was fun having black charcoal on me all the time cuz it made me feel artsy.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

you are all very talented, i am most impressed. i feel very small now. and, yes i am also very jealous.

and i want the spooky cat, he/she is gorgeous.

haha, Nordicskillz.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, you're all incredibly talented. RJG, I kind of like the unfinished one just like it is right now- it looks really neat.

I'm terrible at painting, but every so often I manage to get some photographs that aren't too bad. This one is one of the outer walls of Seattle's EMP: http://artsyfartsy.undef.com/image/1280

I probably need a clipart package, huh.

Abbott, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

I just used Visio 2003! it is fun but it is supposed to be serious business. some people play minesweeper and solitaire, I bend the clipart over and fuck it.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

I used to do that all day! Esp. as a kid; we only had MS word on our family's computer (and solitaire and minesweeper), so I spent an awful lot of time making fake powerpoints and fake brochures and fake newsletters and fake bar graphs. I was making bar graphs of nothing today at work and it made me all nostalgic.

Abbott, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

Fortuitous thread revive. I have this drawing I've been working on on and off for over 3 and a half years, and just this evening I've decided I've had enough of it and that the more I add to it the worse it looks.
I also scanned it this evening too.
Sorry its so big (this is slightly below its actual size of 8.5 X 11 inches) but you can't really shrink it without it looking like shit.
http://soupofturtles.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/drawring.png

Kerm, Saturday, 2 October 2010 02:40 (fifteen years ago)

EDB - will it make you mad if I say I think it's art? Also, that it's really good? I love the way it sort of looks like an amazingly detailed city map...like there's sort of a 'center of town with a river' going on in the center (in my imagination)...it's cool. Lots of painstaking work there, don't shortchange yourself on taking some credit for it.

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 2 October 2010 02:49 (fifteen years ago)

EDB I love that. I would feel proud to have a print of that in my bedroom.

third-strongest mole (corey), Saturday, 2 October 2010 02:52 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks! I don't think of it as art because I think its bad, just semantic reasons. What it comes down to it's countless hours of precise doodling.
But I really appreciate the city map comment, since I wasn't going for that, but I love that sort of aesthetic.

Like most of my complete drawings, I'm going to give it away, so if you're in Toronto and want to claim it...

EDB, Saturday, 2 October 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

Hours of precise doodling tend to have cooler results than a lot of art imo.

But I'm biased as a doodling fiend.
