Who was ready last weekend? I mean, Fulham weren't

imago, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 09:44 (four years ago) link

West Brom looked pretty slick vs Forest. Huddersfield were unfortunate last night.

Obviously looking forward to the Cocu / Rooney coaching team Derby are aiming to line up before the window ends.

lol all three relegated prem teams lost right?

do unfortunately think sunderland will smash l1 this year

nxd, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 10:57 (four years ago) link

I'm ready... it's our fuckwitted backpassing to rookie goalkeeper, english cb that isn't! But despite a mixed performance and still looking toothless/clueless in the last 3rd. Diakhaby's lightning pace and Grant's cool as a cucumber, totally confident penalty strike tells me mid table is doable!

Bradford Park Avenue sack their new management team (appointed in May) after two consecutive 5-0 losses.

Is the first week a new record?

There was famously a same day sacking years back but I can't remember who

Norwich's climb from the nadir was triggered by the insta-sacking of Gunn after a 7-1 opening day defeat to Colchester

imago, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:26 (four years ago) link

Robins had a nervous breakdown and walked after an opening day 4-0 home drubbing against Bournemouth. The chairman said he was a brilliant technical manager who lacked people skills and cited his refusal to high 5 the jovial Jermaine Beckford on the training ground as an example of this.

calzino, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:35 (four years ago) link

You can probably trace a fairly steady decline for Colchester since that 7-1 too.

Tim, Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:46 (four years ago) link

Beating someone 7-1 and having them immediately nick your manager will generally have a depressive effect, as will having your stadium miles out of town in a weird car park

imago, Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:50 (four years ago) link

Our pre-season optimism lasted around 35 minutes into a display of deep ineptitude against a rubbishy Macclesfield; by halfway through the second half my drunk mates were reduced to complaining that the yoof are not as good at singing songs as we all were in the old days (NB not true at all in my estimation but wevs) then we spawned an 87th minute winner and joy was very nearly unconfined.

Tim, Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:51 (four years ago) link

Ah yes, Macclesfield - dear old Sol is ready

imago, Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:53 (four years ago) link

"Most of my constituency know I am not a football expert but it's my job to take up concerns when they are expressed to me and I have had a confidential briefing.

"I want to be satisfied that the sale was done by the book. The fans deserve to know that the sale of their football club has been done by the rules. I am not making a judgment."

The Examiner understands Mr Sheerman has not been in touch with Huddersfield Town directly to discuss his concerns.

A Huddersfield Town spokesman said: "The sale of the club has been ratified by the FA and the EFL as is part of the process."

lol the legitimate concerns of barry sheerman. just for some clarity our club used to be fully owned by a full on scumbag capitalist who utilised zero hour contracts and outsourcing to ruthlessly destroy his business rivals on the depleted high streets of the UK. And now the club is 3/4 owned by some amoral ambulance chaser who looks like a class a cunt as well. barry sheerman is the first mp to declare himself a professional lobbyist and now admits he doesn't know the difference between the Hudds and S Weds shirts after humiliating himself in a pub a couple of years back.

Looks like dear old Oldham are in a spot of bother, largely flying under the radar AFAICT amid the massive pits of bother that Bury and Bolton find themselves in.

Luckily for the Latics they're playing us this evening and there's nothing we like to do more than donate three dumb points to crisis clubs.

Tim, Tuesday, 20 August 2019 09:55 (four years ago) link

I still can't get past my tribal hatred for Oldham whose fans were very shitty when we were the crisis club and our ex-player Wijnard tormented our dysfunctional defence. Also fuck them for the time they gave a contract to vehicular homicide scumbag Lee Hughes. Hope they go bust!

calzino, Tuesday, 20 August 2019 10:19 (four years ago) link

I've nothing against Oldham but I'd just as soon see them slide ignominiously out of the league as see them go bust in a blaze of Bury-style publicity. (They would be the first team that had been in the Premier League to do so I think?)

Tim, Tuesday, 20 August 2019 12:02 (four years ago) link

we've had quite a few momentously big scoring win lose draws against Bury in my lifetime - including 0-6, 6-0, 4-4, 3-3 in the last couple of decades. I love Gigg Lane as well despite only going there twice. Good luck Bury.

calzino, Friday, 23 August 2019 23:15 (four years ago) link

we are going through the longest period of terrible football and sustained losing since that 70's period that some older fans with a slight touch of grandiloquence refer to as The Great Decline. When the designated disabled area is abandoned by the contemptible prem daytrippers that took over it like a fucking disease - i'll be happy to get a season ticket again, because half empty stands is the only environment that works with the kid. At least yesterday our useless caretaker manager realised Elphick is an old slow liability that is finished at this level, probably finished at L1 level (where we are headed) as well so a complete waste of a wage. It reminds me of when we signed Unsworth when he was an old knackered useless bastard as well.

it looks like Bury will be gone within the hour.

calzino, Tuesday, 27 August 2019 15:02 (four years ago) link

Ugh, I feel very bad for the Bury fans suffering at the hands of a bunch of stuff outside their control.

Having said that, there's a piece of me that would be irritated by their being saved at the last minute, rewarding them for massively overspending to buy promotion last year (my lot finished one point outside the play-off places, remember). I try to keep that piece of me under control because ultimately it's the Bury FC community that loses its club, and it's hardly their fault they enjoyed last season on the never-never.

Presumably the ground will be disposed of as part of an insolvency process? That's quite an important factor in any phoenix club starting up.

Tim, Tuesday, 27 August 2019 15:13 (four years ago) link

I'm not sure tbh - some phoenix clubs retained their grounds didn't they? Just currently balancing the genuine sadness of a great old historic football ground getting turned into shit new houses vs the idea of telling Danny Boyle that this is fucking karma - you complete stain!

calzino, Tuesday, 27 August 2019 15:32 (four years ago) link

Ha!

When we nearly went under, the fact that the Council owned the ground (which is a whole other dumb story in our dumb history) was very helpful, because it meant that it couldn't be sold to cover the debt the previous owners had run up. I think this is a common experience for other teams where the worst has happened - if you have to find / finance a new ground that's a whole different order of pain from recruiting a football team.

calzino, Wednesday, 28 August 2019 11:04 (four years ago) link

I think the silver linings are (a) the EFL actually beginning to enforce its rules instead of eternally granting extensions (b) the widespread calls for re-examination of the rules around football club ownership, which might actually come to something this time. Might not, of course.

I feel very sorry for Bury fans but it was going to happen sometime.

Tim, Wednesday, 28 August 2019 11:07 (four years ago) link

I hope they can somehow remain at Gigg Lane because it's a fine old ground.

calzino, Wednesday, 28 August 2019 11:24 (four years ago) link

Yeah I hope so too, seems from the bit I've read that it's mortgaged and the unwillingness of whoever owns the mortgage to sell it on to the bidders was the reason the bid failed (NB this may be a total misreading or misunderstanding on my part). I suppose any successor club will need the Council to intervene in some way to safeguard the ground, otherwise it'll be "developed", ugh.

imago, Saturday, 31 August 2019 16:45 (four years ago) link

nah we're doomed, we had our last of about 3 wins in 18 months, way back in February. Most the team need pulping. The club owner is out of his depth and hasn't a clue what he is doing. He was ready to sell Billing for the first offer of £7m a few weeks back, it was only due to the intervention of our previous chairman that blocked it till we held out for £15m.

calzino, Saturday, 31 August 2019 17:01 (four years ago) link

VLP put in another absolute stinker of a performance, and our chairman accepted an offer for him from Red Star Belgrade during the game. Strange transfer that - as he was getting picked I don't there was any realistic expectations we could move him on, especially to a decent Euro club for money. When you can get the best out of him he's a very limited but useful tool, when he can't be arsed (for such a shit talent he's a total needy diva) you might as well play someone from the stiffs in his position.

Also apparently yesterday's Chester game had the greatest sending off of all time.

Players involved in clash of heads. Ref decides the Chester player should leave the pitch for more treatment so he can get the game going again.
Chester player disagrees and remonstrates with the ref.
Ref books him for dissent and sends him to the touchline.
Chester player gets minimal treatment and comes back on.
Ref decides he didn't wait for permission to re-enter the pitch and books him again.

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 1 September 2019 18:57 (four years ago) link

we got turned down by the cockney brothers management team at Lincoln City after a million comp was agreed between clubs. Some of our lot were having a jizz fest over them and talking up their progressive coaching/tactics chops. They've rapidly risen up the leagues with a ridic amount of promotions but I'm not convinced they'd have been good for us tbh. But now they are all ready to top themselves as Adkins is apparently the 3rd choice behind Stendel who also will probably turn us down because of how we headhunted his no.2 and unceremoniously sacked the fucker after a few months. That Wagner era has really spoiled us and warped our expectations as fans of a small club in a biggish Town. Adkins is dull as dishwater but at the moment some steady competence could be all we need to start building towards a winnable relegation dogfight season.

calzino, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 09:08 (four years ago) link

ffs Neil Harris is current fav for Town. Can't be having another p/t London manager who is allergic to fresh air. and paying compensation for a pretty uninspiring looking manager would be terrible business.

calzino, Friday, 6 September 2019 13:55 (four years ago) link

next manager odds-watching is so futile but addictive. Those Cowley brothers from Lincoln City are favs again. Allegedly some pro-gambler whale has put a large sum on them and there have been other whispers. After that Neil Harris scare I have lost all the reservations I initially had about them.

calzino, Friday, 6 September 2019 18:14 (four years ago) link

calzino, Friday, 6 September 2019 19:59 (four years ago) link

our new management team the Cowley brothers are ex PE teacher siblings who seem quite earnest and naive, albeit with a very good management cv in the lower leagues and recently L2 as well.

Concord: 3 promotions in 6 years to Conference South. Reached the FA Cup first round

Braintree: Took them to their best ever position, a part time team, 3rd in conference. Took them to first round FA Cup first time

Lincoln: 2 promotions in 3 years. Won EFL trophy. First non league team to get to FA cup quarter finals

apparently they have cost us £1.5 m. Like the cut of their jib so far.

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 11 September 2019 06:48 (four years ago) link

IME the Crowley’s are admired for their success but not really liked for footballing style (Lincoln played hard and agricultural but had the gamesmanship turned up to maximum, I like to see big strong effective teams but it irks me when those same players crumple as soon as they’re breathed on). The brothers themselves use pre-Zen Warnock approach to touchline behaviour, continually screaming at the officials for no obvious reason.

That said, they did brilliantly for Lincoln, most importantly by cultivating a real sense of togetherness between club, fans and the community more generally. Hope that works again at Huddersfield because when it works it’s the best thing.

Tim, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 08:29 (four years ago) link

Tim, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 08:30 (four years ago) link

satanic lols! I think at the moment a lot of the fans would take some ugly wins. But after Wagner as a long term project I'd prefer to see more of the hard pressing, high tempo style he brought before he lost faith in his methods after a few prem maulings. Even if it meant there wasn't some instant turnaround in results from it. Hopefully having a budget beyond anything they've had before (bolstered by flogging some of our overpaid wasters and parachute payments) and a transfer window might lead towards a more positive approach.

a classic of the genre including drink driving, a player fleeing the scene of the crime and then returning 45 minutes later, a club cynically taking the moral high ground to sack an old laggard on high wages. Also Giggsy turned up to give a character reference for Tom Lawrence in court.

two months pass...

Having spent most of the season in the top 3 in L2, we had a dip in form at the worst possible time and now the season's over we're in the weird playoffs rather than the auto slots (the only reason I care about this is because dirty Argyle managed to worm their way into the autos, the snotrags). All behind closed doors obv, but if we want we can pay £25 to upload a photo of ourselves to some website and they will manufacture a polypropylene cut-out to be placed in the stands to give an impression of a crowd. We get to keep our cut-outs, but the club can't help it if they're damaged. I'm half tempted as a way of bunging the club some case but I'm probably better just making an extra donation to the Trust.

The thought of picking up a cardboard cut-out of myself with half my head hanging off because it had been clattered by a Jake Taylor moonshot from the edge fo the box, such a feeling.

comparing me to Harold Shipman is unfair (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 11 June 2020 12:26 (three years ago) link

I am not too bothered really - genuinely the only reason I'm bothered about going up is that being in League 1 would provide a one-division safety net for the next time we go tits up. Because of the way we're structured we just have to get used to watching teams piss past us while racking up millions in debt, which we can't do. Most of them will fail eventually but there seems to be an endless queue of rich tossers (at our level, mostly local rich tossers as opposed to the criminal classes higher up) who are happy to waste a ton of their cash on some small scale grubby financial doping. Even the dream of keeping ourselves going on good transfer windfalls (which is what's been fuelling or fairly decent run the last 3 or four years) has been taken away. So L2 or L1 is not that important, mostly it's about having a beer and a jump up and down.

(That last bit's not wholly true. The club's doing a lot of good in the community these days, which I'm pleased about obviously, but L2 or L1 doesn't make a whole heap of difference to that either.)

Carlos Corberán is the rumoured replacement, never heard of the fucker, but not being English nor Essex would be a massive plus for me. the picture that is emerging now is that the Cowleys are effectively on garden leave and not sacked and the chairman found out they'd been talking to Bristol City. I find it unbelievable these grim bastards have still got a pretty good rep at this level. They did manage to arrest the decline, but along with that came their horrible management style which brought a different decline which eventually was losing games and doing it ugly.

calzino, Sunday, 19 July 2020 15:14 (three years ago) link

Tim, Wednesday, 29 July 2020 21:23 (three years ago) link

back in pre Rona times you could have have afforded yourself the luxury of a bit more patience and gamble on him being a success in the prem and yielding a better sell on cut, but them days are gone:( Rough times for league 1/2 clubs right now

calzino, Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:06 (three years ago) link

Apparently we're OK, survival-wise, we had put away some money from the last couple of lucrative sales, but this spell has blown through the savings; we released al our out-of-contract payers (seven from a not-huge squad) and it would be really nice to see a couple of replacements come in. Rough times mean it'd be a brilliant time to have a few quid of disposable income to spend on a few really good players.

Tim, Thursday, 30 July 2020 07:43 (three years ago) link

(Last lucrative sale = Watkins to Brentford, funnily enough, which was £1.75m if I recall correctly - the sums involved in L2 are laughably small compared to even the Champo. )

Tim, Thursday, 30 July 2020 07:45 (three years ago) link

I can remember when we were a L2 club being run by an asset stripping chairman. Just coming out of administration and with a squad of seven players. Then followed a massive transfer splurge with a net spend of fuck all. Then we sold Stead for 1.2m which seemed a huge sum then and probably was huge for the club at the time.

calzino, Thursday, 30 July 2020 07:51 (three years ago) link

Since more or less all the clubs in the lower leagues are loss-making enterprises, and most are owned by "local businessmen" of one kind or another, there is going to be quite a difference this season between those clubs whose owners' businesses are likely to do OK and those whose businesses are tanking.

Mansfield (insurance?), Forest Green (green energy), Salford (you know who) all seem to be spending rather freely so far so I guess they're all doing alright.

Tim, Thursday, 30 July 2020 08:11 (three years ago) link

Our local bête noire former chairman Ken Davy is considered a total villain in the town. I even saw him getting accosted on John William St once and some bloke was yelling: give us our stadium back you robbing cunt! In the local rag there was constantly stories about how his crooked loan company was breaking laws and illegally misselling loans and involved in all sorts of sharp practise etc. Anyway the Conservative Party missed a trick by running him against the universally despised safe-seat wasteman Barry Sheerman in the last election. That would have been the easiest red wall seat to take if they had even run a Shetland pony with a get brexit done blue rosette, anyone but Ken Davy.

The Leyton Orient thing is pretty alarming. The majority of the first team tested positive for COVID but the only reason anyone found out is because Spurs paid for the tests. Their chairman's pointing out that it's not fair to make Orient players self-isolate, and to award Spurs the win, as other teams could be in the same situation but not have to be tested.

Cowley answered some heavily curated questions taken from fans on Twitter and then played a couple of slightly cringe-inducing games involving the ScrewFix catalogue, some ping pong balls and mugs.

it looks like charmless bellowing PE teacher Danny is discovering he isn't quite the hot property he thought he was and he has take whatever gigs he can get these days.

imago, Friday, 6 November 2020 19:41 (three years ago) link

Don't see any of the full time clubs surviving. Money was distributed by the league on the basis of attendance so many of them will be getting less than us. We signed on some non-contracted players to get to the minimum 14 - with only 5 full time I think - and we're on about 50% income afaik.

pedantly admonishment (aldo), Friday, 6 November 2020 20:12 (three years ago) link

No money at all for the clubs below, Aldo, but until this lockdown we were allowed fans in. However, they capped it at a third of the minimum ground capacity acceptable at each level, rather than to a third of the capacity of each ground, i.e. in FC United's division *all* teams were capped at 600 supporters. Not a problem for most clubs at that level, but for us it was considerably less than the number of season tickets we'd normally sell and less than a third of the average gate. Kind of irrelevant now as I can't see the league possibly finishing this season, probably not even restarting. We're on the BBC tomorrow for the FA Cup game against Doncaster - special dispensation for the 'non-elite' teams left in the cup to go ahead and play, but in the highly unlikely event we win, our players won't be allowed to train together (or have any matches, obviously) between the 1st round and the 2nd round. Magic of the cup. I'm looking forward to hearing the piped in crowd sounds on TV as we lose 5-0 in an empty ground.

The Rampaging Goats of Llandudno (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 6 November 2020 20:32 (three years ago) link

Yes, I should have said it's a farce below. Although of course the vote two seasons ago that brought in playoffs was only announced at the restart of football that "oh aye, voting yes made you elite sport, did we not mention it at the time?" And yes, as with you we had to drop the season ticket sales to the league cap level despite safely being able to hold more, with a cap that benefited just about all other teams (we were capped at 1100, a reduction of about 300 on safe hosting and I think there's only 4 sides that routinely get over 1000).

The FA cup has been daft as well, because when a non-elite side hosts an elite side they were allowed he support but not away support.

I know of one team in our league who were streaming the game on the pitch into the club bar, so you could watch a game in progress inside the ground, just not be able to see it.

pedantly admonishment (aldo), Friday, 6 November 2020 20:47 (three years ago) link

I think we'd already sold seven or eight hundred season tickets before they announced the cap at 600, which was awkward (but just about manageable as there's a reasonable number of people who buy them essentially as a donation, knowing full well they won't go to every game).

Racism reported at our place last night, FFS. Investigations ongoing. Awful.

Tim, Wednesday, 9 December 2020 16:46 (three years ago) link

tbf there won't be many grounds in the country where racism doesn't happen, the important thing is a club's response

Uptown Top Scamping (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 9 December 2020 17:37 (three years ago) link

That’s definitely true and no doubt the smaller numbers at matches will mean some of the crap is more audible.

I’m disappointed because I used to be acutely aware of how much racism there was at our ground (like in the 80s whichever of BI\|P or |\|F were around at the time sold a lot of magazines at our place - rumour has it that we were in their top 10 grounds while in the bottom 20’attendances though I can’t back that up) but I genuinely haven’t heard anything of the kind for years.

Tim, Wednesday, 9 December 2020 18:50 (three years ago) link

And as I think about it I’m wrong because I have heard people use Roma - related slurs in the last couple of years and I don’t want to wave that away.

The last time it happened it was a good friend of mine and we had some strong words about it, and he won’t do it again.

it was definitely a great result for fans of falling asleep slumped in your chair with a football match on the wireless! We've got a major injury crisis and a very good manager, but one with a tendency for mad tinkering at times - so I guess a clean sheet and an away point was not be sniffed at after a 5-0 dicking last saturday when he thought he'd try out a development XI against one of the strongest sides in this league.

"The performances and results have not been of the level expected since Tony Pulis was appointed," chairman Dejphon Chansiri said in a statement on the club website.

"There are also other issues which have had a bearing on this decision."

James Beattie is still in counselling after getting headbutted by an angry and naked Tony Pulis in the showers after a bad result at Stoke over a decade ago, some witnesses described it as something akin to the horrific naked man-fighting scene in Women In Love. Perhaps he might have let the towel drop again whilst expressing anger!

two weeks pass...

I always have very low expectations of our transfer window action. But being linked with a 34 year old tugboat of a CB who was involved in a scandalous drink driving incident before rocking up at L1 franchise fc and a flop "flatter to deceive" midfielder who got found out last time he was on our books is a real blow during an injury crisis that has seen us frequently putting out u-23 sides and often getting narrowly beaten by ex prem sides that should have totally arseholed us. All kicking off at Leamington. Mike McGrath sent off for Kettering after a physical altercation with the referee , took it out on the changing room then decided that wasn't enough is tried to get back on the pitch to have another go at the ref before the stewards got control and gave him to the police.

Well *I* know who he is (aldo), Tuesday, 19 January 2021 20:36 (three years ago) link

Just seen the video - the ref calls him over for something, he's clearly got a cob on and goes to square up but the ref has his arm out pointing and McGrath meets it with his chest, then slaps it out of the way so he can get closer.

kieth chagrin (NickB), Tuesday, 19 January 2021 21:23 (three years ago) link

In the meantime we went in 1-0 up at half time, then had a player sent off for something invisible to the naked eye that was claimed to be leading with the elbow (but not enough for anyone to claim for it). We then went down to 9 (apparently for speaking to the ref) and responded by going 2 up. We have no strikers on the pitch.

The short version is that it came to light over the acrimonious transfer of The Shop to Grimsby.

He wanted to see his contract because he was sure there was a clause in it that said if there were no fans then his contract was void so asked the FA for it. When he got it back from them that clause had been scored out and acceptance initialled, only his initials weren't in his handwriting and he says he don't know about it.

Yesterday's development is that Gloucester are pushing that they might go to court to ensure they are promoted because they're currently first - although they have played more games than everyone else and would be 5th I think on average points terms - and have thrown out bitchy public statements at the club's who voted for it. I'm sure it has nothing to do with going shit or bust on the money front this year to try and get promoted.

Of course there is a special irony in them doing it this season, when the rugby team have been a complete disaster and have only got their act together once the league decided there would be no relegation and took the pressure off them.

hmm it's still on - unlucky Rotherham were denied a goal by a fingertip save and GLT. In fact Wednesday could still win and stay up or win and go down - I didn't realise their gd was only one worse than Derby. The last playoff place in L1/L2 still alive as well.

calzino, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 20:53 (two years ago) link

Tim, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 21:20 (two years ago) link

I can't believe it was only four years ago I was getting drunk on rioja and beer on a chartered train en-route to Wembley. It feels more like a decade ago at least. But most of the enjoyment of the playoffs for me was the travelling and boozing and stuff..

calzino, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 21:49 (two years ago) link

That’s the best bit generally.

Tim, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 22:09 (two years ago) link

(For me, I mean. Occasionally football itself is really exciting I suppose.).

Tim, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 22:10 (two years ago) link

three of our playoff final wins have been where both sides are insanely cautious and paralysed with fear by the occasion and it's gone to extra time and pens. Including the epic shootout against the Blades where even the keepers had to step up. We've been quite lucky in the playoffs - but the games have generally been absolute garbage, but still quite exciting.

calzino, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 22:26 (two years ago) link

In fact Wednesday could still win and stay up or win and go down

Rotherham away to Cardiff who've found a bit of form since Wednesday did them 5 nil so could well be a straight winner stays up shootout between Derby & Wednesday.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 5 May 2021 05:58 (two years ago) link

come on Millers, hopefully the Cardiff players are already at Butlins.

calzino, Wednesday, 5 May 2021 06:55 (two years ago) link

Wembley have given up on selling direct and are giving them to the clubs. We've got 3000, which suggests they're going with the roadmap 10k - a ridiculous decision since they'll have had 20k at the FA Cup Final the week before and 22k three weeks later for the Croatia game.

Well *I* know who he is (aldo), Thursday, 6 May 2021 20:09 (two years ago) link

That’s infuriating.

Tim, Thursday, 6 May 2021 20:18 (two years ago) link

I think we've got about half that in season tickets and volunteers. There's definitely not going to be the demand of five years ago but we could probably sell double our allocation.

I just can't understand the logic of dropping the numbers when there are test events either side - bearing in mind there were 4k 'locals' at Leicester/Southampton and it's a Vase and Trophy double there's little chance it wouldn't have sold 20k.

Rhodes has managed to enrage the Wednesdayites by calmly scoring a decent pen against them today. The backstory on this is that he shit it and refused to step up for the pen shootout they lost against us in the '17 playoffs semi. Lol it's certainly not his fault their club's owners were carelessly profligate enough to pay him 5 times what he was worth on a 5 year contract when he was already past his best.

rumours are the club have requested a postponement and the EFL have refused. So we couldn't muster a full bench on Saturday and our supposed first choice striker had an absolute mare, including missing a penalty, so he's decided a contract he signed 2 weeks ago isn't going to work for him after all because of family commitments and he's left.

I wish some of our players would do the same

Your keeper's effort on Saturday was in a different class for their first goal.

Schofield is only starting because his amazing replacement (a freebie who got released by MK dons) has got the Rona. Some say he's the worst Town keeper they've ever seen. I say he's about the 2nd or 3rd worst.

the lino missing the ball crossing the line before the wonder-blunder minutes after we had a perfectly good goal ruled out was how I saw it at the time on the stream. Haven't looked at any replays because it doesn't make any difference on how shit Scofield is and how much we deserved to lose.

Yeah to be fair his standing foot looks nearly a yard over the line so how it never got spotted was dreadful. The hoof back to him was appalling though as they said on the EFL show about the second goal 'now we see why he was trying so hard to prevent the corner'.
