First 30 mins of Lazio-Leverkusen was superb, the last 15 mins merely okay except for Calhanoglu almost scoring from the right touchline 50 yards out.
Owen Hargreaves has a massive crush on Jonathon Tah, who has been admittedly excellent. Wendell also p impressive at LB for Leverkusen tho impulsive enough that he probably was lucky not to pick on a 2nd yellow card just before half-time. Candreva has been good for Lazio, who still have Klose at CF rounding keepers like it's 2002 but hitting the post unfortunately.

Celtic up 2-0 over Malmo in the first 10 minutes of the first leg tie at Parkhead.

corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 19 August 2015 19:03 (eight years ago) link

Valencia-Monaco was p good stuff. Valencia won 3-1 but Clattenburg blew a clear penalty call that would have given Monaco the chance to equalise when it was 2-1.

pandemic, Wednesday, 19 August 2015 20:41 (eight years ago) link

Ended up 3-2, with both of Malmo's goals coming from Celtic flop Berget. The second Malmo goal came with the last kick of the ball. At 3-1 progress would be close to guaranteed. Now going over there with the slimmest of leads and with a horrendous defensive record so far this season.

Group A: Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Malmo

Group B: PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, CSKA Moscow, Wolfsburg

Group C: Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, Astana,

Group D: Juventus, Manchester City, Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach

Group E: Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, Roma, BATE Borisov

Group F: Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Olympiakos, Dinamo Zagreb

Group G: Chelsea, Porto, Dynamo Kiev, Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Group H: Zenit Saint Petersburg, Valencia, Lyon, Gent

Man City group is p sweet. As is Barca's. Chelsea got the best draw but I guess that makes sense as they were seeded #1. Memphis back to PSV already.

ack, this move me makes me anxious. i love son, though haven't seen much of him since he joined leverkusen, but spurs have been burned through so many promising young players. spurs' twitter using the hast tag here comes the son is an inauspicious start, imo. calhanoglu had some tough words for him leaving.

Number None, Tuesday, 15 September 2015 18:26 (eight years ago) link

Hey guys! Go-to place, this right here. The draw for this group pulled me back in :)

NN: I think he's not quite gelling because he's just not as good as he will be someday. You've seen his touch of individual class in those goals against Brugge alone, but he still needs to learn a helluva lot. At PSV he lost possession a lot, but it didn't matter because he could score two brilliant goals nearly every game. At ManU, in the PL, not so much.

No doubt that it will come, but he really needs time to get used to the PL I think. Time you're rarely granted in the PL.

Gent v Wolfsburg

Juventus v Bayern Munich

PSV Eindhoven v Atletico Madrid

Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City

problem the worst draw chelsea could have got, well maybe Juve.

this is what i was saying about two games vs one, they knocked out two teams better than real madrid but in a single game the tactical advantage is reduced

they begin having to score at least once in 90/120 vs 180/210 so the defensive/attritional paranoia that animates them in a psychological as well as tactical sense is sort of neutralized; no away goals rule
