If you analyse the board question papers over the last decade, you might see something of a pattern in how the questions are repeated or altered year after year. A guess paper is just a forecast of what the examination will bring. It cannot help you "understand a topic more fully", it may help you by letting you narrow down your focus on the parts of the syllabus more likely to feature in the exam, but then you're taking a risk because the guess might be wrong.
