I'm pretty sure we've done this before, but I can't find it with the search engine. So, any suggestions ?

Rapeman? Do EP's disqualify a band?

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:09 (twenty years ago)

No, that's even better. And the Normal counts then.

snowballing (snowballing), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:15 (twenty years ago)

Monks?

mikko (mikko), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:20 (twenty years ago)

The classic Pink Floyd line-up with Syd, which was almost a different band.

zeus (zeus), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:25 (twenty years ago)

Ah, I was this close to saying the Syd era Floyd. Instead I'll throw in Rites of Spring.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:26 (twenty years ago)

Ah, but Syd is on "A saucerful of secrets", two tracks at last count.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:29 (twenty years ago)

I also wonder if a band would be disqualified if they put out a couple of singles as well only one album.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:39 (twenty years ago)

Mono (the nineties english duo) - Fornica Blues

Lightnin' Rod (an album and a single)

Baby Huey & The Babysitters (2 singles and an album)

Main Source (handful of singles, 2 compilation tracks and 1 album..that lame mark 2 version minus Large Professor rhyming/on production doesn't count)

Deep Wound (a 7" and two comp songs)

Siege (a demo bootlegged onto 7" and 3 comp songs)

Odd Squad (1 album)

Real Live (an album and a compilation track)

Kiss It Goodbye (an album and a single)

Manzel (a couple of singles and some unearthed songs 20 years later)

Marva Whitney (a few singles and an album)

Negative Approach (amazing 7" + comp song + so-so album)

Negative F.X (a demo that was released as an album)

Money Boss Players (one ep, a few 12"s and a couple of comp tracks)

Swing Kids (a 7" and a split 10")

Diamond Shell (1 album made by Biz Markie's brother with Biz on production)

Ooops. So compilation albums count as full albums, then?

b0ring, Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:30 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe that no one has suggested The United States of America yet! Plus, there are no pesky compilations to confuse matters either

Life Without Buildings

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Ooops. So compilation albums count as full albums, then?

No, they actually made two entirely original albums: Philosophy of the World (1969) and Shaggs' Own Thing (1982). The eponymous Rounder comp came out a few years after Shaggs' Own Thing.

Orchestra Luna, although admittedly the cult is quite small.

The Secret, who did the Cockney Rebel soundalike "I'm Alive."

There's that "Phantom's Divine Comedy" record that does for The Doors what the first Klaatu LP did for The Beatles.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Dart - 36 cents an hour (on che). they did an ep later kind of.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Ummm, Moby Grape had at least six albums (more, if you count reunion LPs). Or did you mean Skip Spence? Or Bob Mosley? (one solo LP apiece).

James, Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Just because they had to change their name for legal reasons doesn't mean Cocoa Brovaz/Tek & Steele aren't the same duo.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

Liaisons Dangereuses, just saw some very cool live stuff by them on youtube, they were definitely cult, and only made that one album!

mark e, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 14:56 (seventeen years ago)

Sunsonic - though not a cult band as such, just that one of the duo supposedly joined a cult causing the band to no longer exist.

I think this has finally been answered between the latest version of Vernon Joynson's Fuzz Acid & Flowers REvisited and Richard Morton Jack's Endless Trip. Love that lp, wish it would get a legit reissue. Should appeal to fans of Wooden Shjips I think

Armageddon

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

good call re One Dove.

i'm still holding out for the pre-touch up version of that album to get a release.

never heard it, but it was supposed to be a lot better than the official version.

mark e, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 13:19 (fifteen years ago)

I believe it was released, as the LP version (a double, I had one, and I think it's on a minidisc somewhere)

Mark G, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 13:50 (fifteen years ago)

oh !
didn't know that. i thought it was only ever made available prior to them signing to Boys Own as a promotional item and so never officially released.
guess its time to go a googling.

mark e, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

Well, there's nothing confirming my viewpoint. I was more "someone told me" so..

hmmm
spinning the grays ro sham bo at the moment
haven't listed to it in years - first four songs are really great, then a little bit more like really good from there on

also don't think mentioned in this thread: erik voeks' sandbox - groovy power pop with good guitar playing throughout

ok both belong is great great great
after listening to this three times straight

something's wrong with me

jimmy_chop, Friday, 9 March 2012 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

Delakota only made one (pretty good) album (which had one all-time favourite amazing single on it).

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 9 March 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

Bark Psychosis only made one lp as a band. They also had 2 compilations of early stuff etc plus about 10 years later Graham Sutton came back and used the bandname for another lp with none of the other members.
Can't really think of a Bark Psychosis without John Ling
