AND I ate a bunch of elderberries on the path to the beach! They dyed my tongue a fabulous purple!

Saturday night after working out in the garden and completing the great Mr. Patita eyeglasses hunt = happy fuzzy, with a parrot on the shoulder (aka like most nights but more tired)

saturday night is the night not to worry, there's always hangover day tomorrow.

patita, Sunday, 9 September 2007 01:51 (sixteen years ago) link

=) sounds nice

If they really did sink the ferry we'd spend all winter eating eels. My grandma likes to tell the story about how fortunate she felt during the depression cuz they knew they'd always have plenty of eels to eat. Blech.

Maria :D, Sunday, 9 September 2007 04:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I knew an old guy in NL who felt fortunate cuz he always had plenty of cats to eat during WWII. I hope I never endure famine. Although there was a time without money when I lived on blackberry pies in Oregon. We just bought flour and sugar.

who's ronans brother?

Surmounter, Sunday, 9 September 2007 12:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah, you know, just a guy. He's a friend of friends of mine who I've met a few times at music festivals and parties and so on. He once let me crash at his flat in London on the way home from Glastonbury, a favour I have never forgotten.

accentmonkey, Sunday, 9 September 2007 12:42 (sixteen years ago) link

yes that sounds like a good favor.

Surmounter, Sunday, 9 September 2007 13:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, Ronan! You guys were in HEAVEN!!!
Maria, the only time I've ever suffered an anaphylactic shock-type food allergy was after I ate eel nori rolls! I got all flushed and short-of-breath, with pins and needles all over. Lasted about 20 minutes. Most unpleasant. So if the ferry sinks you go ahead with the eels. I'll take the periwinkles. Better yet, LETS START AMASSING CANNED FOOD NOW!!!!!

Beth Parker, Sunday, 9 September 2007 14:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Your cat would provide a week's eating, come to think of it.

Beth Parker, Sunday, 9 September 2007 14:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Looks lovely Ronan. V jealous of view!

I am writing and thinking that I need to take up smoking again. I NEED A BREAK! That said, rugby in 40 mins, cans of carlsberg in fridge and then town to meet s.o. give them final bday Present and then home for early night. Dinner shall be mostly takeaway pizza.

kv_nol, Sunday, 9 September 2007 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Beth Parker, Sunday, 9 September 2007 20:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello!

I am anticipating doing nothing at work today EXCEPT ONE BIG THING THAT WILL TAKE ALL DAY so I thought I'd get an early post out of the way. I am not particularly onimoed, despite drinking a fair bit last night.

aldo, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I, too have LOADS of work to do today. So I'm checking in and fecking off.

accentmonkey, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:53 (sixteen years ago) link

But not before apologising for that ridiculous comma. I am sorry.

accentmonkey, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I am not onimoed, seriously busy but delighted that "So Not Gonna Happen" is back. YAY! ILX = Stalker city basically!

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 09:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I was onimoed to hell on Saturday and Sunday. Today I should be fresh as a daisy but mad screaming baby kept us up all night :(

(In what way are daisies any fresher than any other flower?)

onimo, Monday, 10 September 2007 09:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't actually know. Poor baby, what was wrong?

I was ridiculously onimoed yesterday. Still watched horrific rugby match :(

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 09:20 (sixteen years ago) link

She's had a high temperature all weekend and now has a sore throat and is too young to realise that screaming for six hours isn't going to make it better.

onimo, Monday, 10 September 2007 09:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Ophelia was a wee bit sick as well. A bit of a fever and a bit contrary due to upsetness (?). She's relatively okay today. On the way to the crèche I had to take her toothbrush and toothpaste and she got a tantrum as a result. It was... interesting. :-)

Ronan, superfluous to say this, but you have one lovely girlfriend. :-)

nathalie, Monday, 10 September 2007 09:25 (sixteen years ago) link

OHMIGODABETHPOSTCARD!

OHMIGODAPATITAPACKAGE!

You guys! Thanks so much! Now I must fill the box up and pass it along, right?

accentmonkey, Monday, 10 September 2007 10:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Woah re. poor sick kids.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 10:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Morning all. Also a v busy day over here. Why must Mondays be so?

I just dropped off my homework and skipped class today. Have a big mtg at 10 and I know I wouldn't be able to concentrate.

I'm having a latte and a yummy cinammon roll. yumm

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Why is ILx so boring today?

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:18 (sixteen years ago) link

You're already skipping class?? Bold Ms Mis.

ILX boring because everyone's too busy. Or too unfunny.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Well I have a hard time concentrating and never refer to my notes anyway. He just goes straight from the book. But I do believe writing things down reinforces learning. I don't plan on making skipping a regular habit.

However I do have a HUGE meeting at 10 in which I must bowl people over. I didn't want to rush back from class with less than hour to get ready and be a nervous wreck.

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I do believe writing things down reinforces learning.

OTM! Only way it works for me.

Huge meeting? Is it a power-play?

Rock/Accentmonkey: Do you know of a good recipe for Saltimbocca alla Romana?

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Huge meeting? Is it a power-play?

Partly. It was my boss's project (the second most-used site at our uni.) But he fuX0red it up and it was just dropped. it was decided to start it up again and I convinced his boss that I would do a better job so it was reassigned to me. My bosses and the bigger bosses will be there so I have to show them it was a good move AND impress the clients who so far have been unimpressed by my team.

No biggie or anything.

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Rock/Accentmonkey: Do you know of a good recipe for Saltimbocca alla Romana?

Not me, soz.

I've just had my vet on the phone telling me that the culture they took from poor ginger kitten (RIP) to see if he had ringworm DID test positive for ringworm.

This is, of course, a week after another vet in the same practice told me that there had been no growth on the culture and so those little scabs on Rory's neck were probably nothing to worry about. Now she's mixed in with Linus, who sleeps in Milo's bed regularly. Jesus, the whole house could be infected. Stupid vets.

accentmonkey, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh no accentmonkey! I will take kitten for quarantine to help. I know, I am so good.

Ms Mis best of luck, you'll be fine. Just remember what you want and try to make it look like you're trying to help, not subvert. Anyway redundant advice, you know what you're doing!

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Also have you eaten in Ciao Bella Roma on Parliament Street?

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 13:59 (sixteen years ago) link

We think one of the strays we feed outside has mange. And unfortunately we've brought her in a couple of times. :/

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Mange, really? God, that's pretty sad. Is it very contagious?

Ha ha, Kev-lol, you will not take kitten for quarantine. She is my ickle smidge.

Here's what I know about Italian restaurants on Parliament St:

Da Pino (up at the corner of Dame St.): hot waitress who is also an actress, but hugely overrated. Lasagne comes in a dish that has clearly been in the microwave. Not my kind of place.

Topolis (in the middle): slightly cheaper, slightly more chance of getting a table on spec at peak times, slightly better food.

Ciao Bella Roma (beside my old shop): really crowded, disastrous service at lunchtimes, food not very good but okay if you're just getting a quick feed before going somewhere else.

accentmonkey, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Mange, really? God, that's pretty sad. Is it very contagious?

Yes very. But it is also treatable early on. I'm going to keep an eye on her and see how it progresses. Just guessing now. I call her stray but she really belongs to the drug dealers across the street. Which makes me hesitant to take her to the vet.

Ms Misery, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm looks like it'll have to be B0ccaci0's on D4me Str33t. Has to be a place that does veal for uncle to whom I have promised veal for many months.

Going to anything at documentary festival? I'm checking out that "Forever" one. Also hoping to visit state apartments in Dublin Castle during this culture night.

Why hesitate? Are vets v expensive?

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

I have managed fuck all today.

Saltimbocca:

Take thin veal cutlet, place a couple of sage leaves and some prosciutto on top, bash with rolling pin to stick prosciutto to veal (best done with some cling film on top) and keep bashing until cutlet is about 1/4" thick. Dredge with flour, fry for about 3 minutes each side (non-prosciutto side first, and it can get longer than the other side) and put to one side. Deglaze the pan with white wine and chicken stock - about a wine glass full with roughly 2:1 wine:stock - and put the cutlets back in, prosciutto side up, for a minute or so until the sauce is reduced by half.

aldo, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:22 (sixteen years ago) link

So use white wine instead of Marsala? Fantastic. Thanks Aldo.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, you don't want the sweetness that Marsala would give you. A dry white is what you're after.
