Rubyredd, Monday, 30 June 2008 06:23 (fifteen years ago) link

We are spazzy, but that's really just the beginning.

starter = appetizer here in MN at least.

mmmmmmm lamb and chocolate. Gah, I hope those Fritos hold me until morning.

Good Night RR! (and everyone else!)

I went to a wedding this weekend, the youngest son of my mum's best friend from school. Throughout my childhood, visiting this family was THE best thing in the world, my fondest childhood memory - we'd go up there (south Lincolnshire, nothing but flat fields, marshy dykes and enormous skies) a couple of times a year and get lost in adventure and possibility. I first discovered girls there (and, for humour purposes I'm sure, was placed at dinner next to the first ever girl to requite my adolescent feelings, TWENTY-TWO YEARS AGO), and would invariably be in love with a cousin, or a family friend, on each visit throughout my teens. It was amazing.

Anyway, the wedding was great, and almost every single person from my memories was there. It was pretty emotional, incredible fun, and the only thing that makes me sad is the fact that, with the youngest son now married off, the likelihood of everyone getting together like this again must be pretty much zero.

Mark C, Monday, 30 June 2008 09:37 (fifteen years ago) link

It's funny you mention weddings as today I will be the official witness at a wedding in Brooklyn. I learned about this event on Saturday.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:41 (fifteen years ago) link

anyone we know?

i just got home from a fabulous and fabulously-expensive dinner:
Steamed clams, spelt pasta with chilli, garlic and lemon;
Sous-vide Wiltshire organic lamb shoulder with roasted rack of lamb,
fried ewes milk haloumi and spinach puree;
Variations on a theme of chocolate

the chocolate thing was AMAZING - a rich gooey mini souffle, a super rich mousse/parfait/spongey thing, white choc and espresso creme brulee, a chocolate 'lollipop which was some kind of super rich lite choc ice cream covered in crushed pistachios, and choc orange sorbet.

Rubyredd, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Woah that sounds amazing. I assume Wiltshire is in NZ rather than importing lamb from England :)

Mark C, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:51 (fifteen years ago) link

i have no idea!

Rubyredd, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:52 (fifteen years ago) link

me and my boss spent the evening acting quite crass and saying mean things about the loud group of businessmen next to us.

the high point:
(boss talking about his ex gf who i used to be friends with) - 'yeah her dad was a pastor so that's why she thought anal sex was evil' SUDDEN GLARING SILENCE IN THE WHOLE RESTAURANT.

Rubyredd, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:54 (fifteen years ago) link

also: the 18yo couple - obviously a big, special night out for them, the girl is all dressed up nice with pretty perfect hair and makeup... and her boyfriend has this silly mullet with a bad blonde dye job and is wearing a big baggy band t-shirt.

Rubyredd, Monday, 30 June 2008 10:56 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^^precious moments

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I like to think that that menu item is a reflection on the sad state of global capitalism and the NZ has finally capitulated and admitted that British lamb is better. (More likely that it is in season in the UK and not in NZ).

Ed, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:40 (fifteen years ago) link

RR - I have seen many versions of that couple; I especially love it when they are clearly way past teenagerhood. Your evening sounds fun and I am SO envying that menu. The chocolate thing sounds sooooo fantastic!!!

Mark C - it sounds like such a fun wedding!

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

GO SEE WANTED, IT IS PURE VIOLENCE

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I can't go to the movies; I have to pack and go on vacation. ;_;

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

SEE IT WHILE ON VACATION

IT HAS LOTS OF EXPLODING HEADS IN IT

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I was suspicious that I might be in a really bad mood today and I have just confirmed my suspicion

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

tombot,

my coworkers spontaneously started calling me 'rembot 10000' and i told 'em no, that name was too familiar to somebody i knew. so they came up with 'remylou harris' which has stuck and is much, much worse.

remy bean, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

no that's great!!

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

ouch

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, remy. There isn't an emoticon for how awful that nickname is.

Dan - maybe I *will* go to the movies on vacation. (Wait... I might get to do something fun on vacation? NO WAY!)

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

uh fyi emmylou harris kicks ass :)

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Just be prepared for a ridiculous amount of unnecessary violence.

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I think remy's being a guy might have something to do with his objection to the nickname.

I'm only guessing, though.

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I lived in Hastings for many years, so BRING IT ON

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:26 (fifteen years ago) link

i guess i'm used to that kind of thing. xp.

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:26 (fifteen years ago) link

xp In movie form only, though.

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

what a movie.

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I wasn't expecting the exploding heads to be quite as graphic as they were but it still lead to a multitude of wtf action scenes (including the gnarliest, most hilarious human shield scene I've ever watched).

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

'remy' is already a nickname. there is no need for another one (or two). And - while i am on the subject - i also do not appreciate my coworkers comically serenading me with the phantom of the opera song, slightly altered to become 're-e-my stand alone in the street light, has the moon lost its re-e-my' etc.

remy bean, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

omg

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link

That is somewhat hilarious, especially since that song is from CATS

(don't ask why I know these things: I just do)

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

ha you're so right!

Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

hey, i got andrew lloyd weber right.

remy bean, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I think you should start singing random ALW songs out loud at work. If you do this enough, with enough sincerity, you will frighten your coworkers away.

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Skip ALW and go straight to singing Godspell at them.

HI DERE, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:42 (fifteen years ago) link

And wear the clown makeup. That freaks EVERYONE out.

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I have still not really started packing. BAD BAD BAD

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Packing for the going of to where? Last minute packing is the most efficient because you pack nothing but the important things which spring themselves readily to mind. I believe this to be true because I want it to be.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Also YO!

I am back from the most awesomest festival weekend. My WORD did my standards of hygiene slip. Even I found myself offended by my aroma when I arrived home.

(Tis all better now though. FRESH AND CLEAN)

Upt0eleven, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Family road trip to Michigan to visit 1. friends and then 2. family. I do have to resist the impulse to take everything in the house with us.

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Also - glad you're back and that you've, you know, had a shower and everything! ;)

Sara R-C, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i bet you smell better than my basement ;_;

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:15 (fifteen years ago) link
