Yeah. the guy seems more of an adbusters type, rather than your run-on-the-mill BSRW type.

well, not to mention that "environmentalists" are not some united and monolithic group -- you have climate change advocates and endangered species protectionists at loggerheads ALL the time -- c.f. people who are all jazzed over windfarms vs. people who want to shelter every migrating birdie ever
why is it when these jackholes attempt to unmask "hypocrisy", they simply show off their violent allergy to nuance & complexity? sometimes i feel pity for the poor bastards.

am I the only one who has trouble parsing the weirdly insular non-stop sarcastic dialogue of "Day-by-Day"? Half the time I can't tell who's supposed to be which political strawman.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link
No. For all of the misplaced energy that I've put into trying to decipher them, I've received little compensation other than bafflement...plus further confusion regarding the dubious anatomy in the renderings of the "hot chicks".

no we've noted many times that dbdc is pretty thoroughly incomprehensible on several levels, not the least of which is the opacity of the text

1) So, we've established that Obama has big ears and HUUUUUUGE teeth
2) Meeting with people and basic diplomacy is pointless and only for terrorsymps. After all, we never met with Kruschev, Brezhnev, Putin, Stalin, the Saudi royal family, the weird-ass Uzbek/Turkmenistan guys, various latin american military types, etc etc

http://www.patriotart.com/images/07_30_07/ChuckAndHarry450.jpg Americans give this feature two thumbs down.
I get a kick out of these in a different manner than the others, since it really just seems like a guy you see on the boardwalk doing bad caricatures("You like rollerskates?") taking out his frustrations at night on the dirty fucking hippies who've wronged him his entire life. His colored pencils are his weapons.
Also, I always like people trying to jump up & down when pointing to congress' low numbers, without actually explaining why they're that low.

Some folks have decided to pay even more attention to the duck than even I would deem healthy, and tend to have pretty good factual rebuttals to whatever batshit is being proffered in a day's strip.

this one isn't even incoherent in the usual DBD way, it's just completely unintelligible. The punchline is... just a rearview mirror? Huh?
― milo z, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:34 (sixteen years ago) link
(besides, everyone knows it's not another Vietnam, it's another 'French Indochina')
― milo z, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link
if the punchline is "lolz libruls be lookin backwards all the time", why does he tell her to look in the mirror in the first place?
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link
DBDs need a final BOXCAR!*#$@ panel

well there is a stock final panel he could use...

i wonder if there's some visual punchline there totally obfuscated by muir's total lack of ability to draw 2 dimensional objects --?

kudos.
If it wouldn't get someone sued, a Random DBD Generator (like the Garfield one) would be fucking awesome.
― milo z, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 21:14 (sixteen years ago) link
hahaha love how they have a BLACK dude calling Hillary the first black president umm waht
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link
I was about to propose the exact same thing. But unlike the Garfield one, it would barely alter the strip at all - you could have a web game set up where you view pairs of DBD cartoons and try to guess which one is from the randomizer and which one is intended by the cartoonist to represent a coherent (indeed, punchy!) back-and-forth dialogue.
The recent spread of Obama caricatures re: the evils of diplomacy brings me back to a question I posed a while ago: how long does it take a public figure to become standardized in the pens of cartoonists? If Obama is elected, how many years into his presidency will we go before we stop seeing things like that one where his top teeth are 90% of his head?
