seriously--yet one more reason to hate this horrible jam band

In the proposal, which The New York Times examined, Mr. Young says that he assisted the affair by setting up private meetings between Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter. He wrote that Mr. Edwards once calmed an anxious Ms. Hunter by promising her that after his wife died, he would marry her in a rooftop ceremony in New York with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band.

I'm from germany. DMB is not widely known around here. I gotta say I think DMB is a great band. I don't know what's going on with the american fans, then again I don't care, because I don't judge a band by its fans (frankly that would be just plainly stupid). Anyway I was wondering about some of the DMB bashing in american media and googled around, that's how I ended up here.
If you don't ban me for having a different opinion or for digging up this thread, I'd be happy to find out what music you DMB haters listen to (if there is still anyone out there who remembers this thread). Maybe someone could give a counter example to DMB's supposed blandness?

I asked what DMB haters listen to.Maybe DMB haters defines the board, maybe thats your joke.Mainly I want to know what you mean with bland.
As for Excepter, that is certainly an interesting choice. Very experimental music. I find it hard to compare it to DMB, but it is certainly more original and unexceptional music than dmb.

What makes you think you will be banned? I may not like DMB but that's no reason to dislike you, I say welcome to ILM! and I hope you dig around the rest of the board and join in. There's even an introduction thread somewhere in the archives. Also tip to new person, click on new answers. I think i was here a year before I found out about new answers page. Only noticed when we relocated from greenspun. <end of embarrassing admission>

It's so aggravating how many people fall for Dave Matthew's fake singing. Thank god his bull is not on the radio as much as it was a few years back! He'll write a 3 (or so) note melody that is actually rather convincing and tuneful, but then he drives it in the ground, repeating it relentlessly until we all just want to say "please, make it stop!" Beyond the 3-note refrain melody, though, everything else is shit--just random unrelated notes that any kindergarten child could write. He might as well come up with those notes by drawing them out of a hat. Then he either whines or whispers them, and everyone thinks he is passionate and sensitive. People seem to think he has a nice voice. I don't get it: since when does closing off the throat until a duck-like quack emerges considered beautiful singing? Please make it stop, Dave Matthews!

Dave Matthews is one of rock's most underrated Pretty Complex Dudes – as horny as Lil Wayne, as troubled as Thom Yorke, able to growl "war is the most vulgar madness" like the American Sting he's always sort of been. He's got a beige-Baja-shirt rep and a black-turtleneck soul.
The first DMB record in more than three years (and the first in over a decade produced by Steve Lillywhite, who helmed their mid-Nineties albums) serves up the Matthews magic in all its musically tight, emotionally bumfuzzled splendor: from the sex-as-food funk-pop romp "Belly Belly Nice," to the relationship SOS "The Riff," where Matthews sings, "I don't know the man living in my head/If I don't know the woman sleeping in my bed," to op-eds against political apathy like the fragilely beautiful "Mercy."
Lillywhite's sympathetic production and the rich band interplay, steeped in New Orleans R&B, lithe jazz fusion and nimbly driving jam rock, make for uncluttered songs that at times recall Clinton-era glories (the elegant slow build of "Mercy" is just a hacky-sack flip away from 1996's "Crash Into Me"; it could've soundtracked the shit out of a Friends montage).
And yet, this is no nostalgia trip back to the quad. Even songs that luxuriate in strummy romantic escapism take midlife head-on: "I'm too old to wanna be younger now," the 45-year-old sings on the gingerly intimate "Sweet." He wears his grown-'n-grumpy honesty like a champ.
