OM as a trio? more details?

Alestorm has that awful synth-accordion sound

Not to mention the keytar with steeldrum preset they use on stage o_O Also, jumping around in a sharksuit really hammers it home, Fonzstyle. Saw both bands at Paganfest this week, and was only slightly amused. I kinda like how Alestorm's singer looks more Glastonbury than Wacken, though.

man, that Ahab record is something else! i do dig it.

all you need is love vs. money (that's what i want) (Ioannis), Sunday, 20 September 2009 13:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Judging by the new album Wormwood, Mortuus now has total creative control over Marduk. It's nothing short of Maranatha pt. 2, really. Which off course is a good thing.

OM as a trio? more details?

Rob from Lichens is playing seated guitar and samples/fx. Added a whole other dimension and made me appreciate the business of the new drummer a lot more. Al agreed with me that it was their best show yet.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 20 September 2009 23:34 (fourteen years ago) link

It's pretty good, but I still prefer their live stuff from when Mason Jones was still in the band - I'll take These Things Take Time and Almost Invisible over anything else they've done.

neither good nor bad, just a kid like you (unperson), Sunday, 20 September 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

For some reason I'm still entertained by the Wiki hack edits for metal bands, this is what Coverge's page read as of 10:30 Sunday night:

Converge is a terrible band from Salem, Massachusetts. Playing a blend of bad music[1][2] and worse music since 1990,[3][4][5] Converge has helped to define many of the very bad sounds of another horrible genre.[6][7][8]

Did you see Crom? I'd lke to see Crom.

Calling Chicago area ilxors can you look out for a missing person

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 12:53 (fourteen years ago) link

wow, Midlothian is a very metal name for a town.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Shit, Midlothian is literally about 20 minutes away from where I work. Dated a girl from Midlothian for a short time, but that was like 7 years ago. I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled.

Ok wow, more like 45 minutes from where I work. I am way confused this morning.

Size-zero-brigade-embrace-token-chubby-chops (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 21 September 2009 13:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Of course he could be anywhere in the chicago area and not just the town he's from.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 13:55 (fourteen years ago) link

so, what's cool on deathwish inc? I'm gonna pre-order the new converge and might pick up some other stuff.

any of this stuff on sale worth a go?
http://www.deathwishinc.com/estore/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=D&Category_Code=SALE

don't really know too many of these bands. and I'm only gonna buy stuff on vinyl, I'm thinking.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

i ordered the converge but think perhaps all the coloured vinyl sold out as it didnt give me a choice of colour. and the other estore selling it had no vinyl left at all. I guess most of them will end up on ebay too

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 14:21 (fourteen years ago) link

no biggie for me. I don't really care about colored vinyl.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:24 (fourteen years ago) link

just order the jane doe double vinyl and then you're done! hahahaha!

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:26 (fourteen years ago) link

to be fair, i LOVED the last hope conspiracy album. dunno if its anything that anyone here would dig though.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link

my buddy played me a hope conspiracy album a few years ago. it was kind of middle-of-the-road.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:28 (fourteen years ago) link

god i hate their album covers. and t-shirts. i won't blame converge for metalcore, but can i blame them for metalcore's awful design sense? or do i just blame the dude from isis. or equal vision. i need to blame someone!

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:29 (fourteen years ago) link

hah! xpost:

man, these are some ugly covers!

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i loved the last hope conspiracy album. oh wait i said that already. kurt is my production god though. i will listen to anything he produces but really it was great. one of the best punk albums i've heard in years.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:30 (fourteen years ago) link

I would say isis have a slightly classier/more boring design sense than the spraypaint + giant font hell that is the deathwish inc. back catalog.

I'll check out the hope conspiracy.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:33 (fourteen years ago) link

new converge song i heard sounds like dragonforce.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:38 (fourteen years ago) link

just kidding. the intro kinda does though!

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:38 (fourteen years ago) link

it sounded good though. i'm looking forward. katatonia and converge. i'm happy.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:39 (fourteen years ago) link

It looks like I will be going to the Converge/High On Fire/Dethklok/Mastodon show after all, fairly excited.

Goatsnake are reuniting for Roadburn, that's cool imo - not quite a 'must spend money I don't have to get there' deal but I bet they'll go in hard

from asva's myspace

It's pretty early in the morning but the coffee is kicking in and it seems to be motivating me enough to write. Recent developments include:

Finally finished mixing the new Asva record 'Presences of Absences' and tonight drawing up some kind of a plan of how to release it. Nobody has heard this beast and I'm not sure a label would touch it... it sounds like a cross between Arvo Part (minus the orchestra) and Burning Witch (minus drums and vocals). Speaking as the guy who wrote and played it I love it; no idea if anyone else will though.

Speaking of Burning Witch: Edgy 59 and I have started a new adventure in listening; we're calling it 'The Poisoned Glass' and have so far recorded one song which we'll soon be posting a small section of on our page here at myspace.http://www.myspace.com/thepoisonedglass Falling Down has agreed to release it on the upcoming compilation and in the meantime we're going to go ahead and put together a full length. Its great playing with Edgy again; he sounds better than ever and our collaboration sounds absolutely chilling.

Ok then! I've got to run off to work!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 23:02 (fourteen years ago) link

This must be what my early a.m. voicemail from Stuart was about. I will investigate.

Having an old Venom day today. Black Metal / At War With Satan. Haven't played these in a really long time, and they're better than I remember.

glenn mcdonald, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I saw this morning there is some special edition of Black Metal that comes with a DVD of a show from the era. Tempting, but one of those $30 imports I can't really justify.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 02:14 (fourteen years ago) link

I just picked up a reissue LP of Black Metal. I traded away my original years ago for some die cast metal Shogun Warrior figures. LOL.
