Going the extra mile to use the word "nigger" = you are proving mediocre black comedians across the US correct.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 24 May 2003 00:12 (twenty years ago) link

because they do too?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 24 May 2003 00:28 (twenty years ago) link

Haha yes.

On a more serious note, if your point is that sexism is as bad as racism, it would probably be best if you didn't create a situation where it looks like you are equating bringing up the fact that misogyny exists with using the word "nigger" as that tends to cloud your point and cause people to not take you seriously.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 24 May 2003 00:51 (twenty years ago) link

Dan I hope Paul Mooney doesn't number amongst your "medicore black comedians" there

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 24 May 2003 00:56 (twenty years ago) link

The mediocre ones are the ones parrotting Paul Mooney's jokes).

1x i was out busking with steve mccabe & billl vosburgh & fosby started singing "me & the dev" & after he said "i'm gonna beat my woman etc" steve interjected loudly "NO YOU ARENT", that really made that version of the song for me.

brian badword (badwords), Saturday, 24 May 2003 02:20 (twenty years ago) link

did i say 'chicks' on the misogyny thread?

brian badword (badwords), Saturday, 24 May 2003 02:21 (twenty years ago) link

("cock " in old blues songs = "cunt" btw)
Actually...I've heard that in some scandahoovian language -- Swedish, I think -- "Cock" (or a word that sounds exactly like it) actually DOES MEAN "Cunt".
If there are any Swedes on the forum, please confirm or deny this...

Thanks for educating me on that one.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Saturday, 24 May 2003 10:45 (twenty years ago) link

I would posit that most of the lyrics being discussed here have nothing to do with "the hurt that comes with love".

"The hurt that comes with lust", more likely.

equating bringing up the fact that misogyny exists with using the word "nigger"

I'd equate these things, if only in the way that they'd be equally dumb things to do, unless you've got a good point coming soon after.

that girl is poison... never trust a big butt and a smile. yep, seems i am capable of enjoying misogyny too.

Don't know anything about Scandanavian languages, but I have read an account of how in Louisiana "coquille" (scallop) was used to refer to the female parts, and that this was later shortened to "cock."

how weird. my old barber carlos used to call it rooster.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 24 May 2003 23:02 (twenty years ago) link

I don't know but I been told, a big-legged woman ain't got no soul.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 25 May 2003 00:05 (twenty years ago) link

Cock means rooster (just as pussy means cat) so it's no
more illogically applied to one sexual organ than the
other.

I thought this thread was Eating Misogny, and was a long surrealist poem.

David Allen, Sunday, 25 May 2003 03:11 (twenty years ago) link

Is there a special word that means 'hatred of the Rolling Stones'? I want one.

Also, can someone give examples of AC/DC lyrics that display a hatred towrds women rather than just an objectification of them?
From memory they're mostly just schoolboy tales of bawdy girls that do to females what (I imagine) mills and boon novels do to males, that is, pretend they're something they're not.

mei (mei), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:57 (twenty years ago) link

Also, it's just occurred to me that AC/DC lyrics, porn for men etc etc etc feature (images of) women who are as interested in brief, 'meaningless' sexual encounters, motorbikes, porn, blow jobs etc. as men are.

To put it another way many men must be turned on by women who look female but act like men.

How gay is that?

two years pass...
On "Pushin' Too Hard" the Seeds were being conformist, misogynist jerks in some ways
-- Frank Kogan (edcasua...), November 10th, 2005.

Frank, I don't know if you'll see this, but "misogyny" means hatred of women in general and "Pushin' Too Hard" is a guy annoyed at one particular woman for bugging him.

The Crystals - He Hit Me (And it Felt Like a Kiss)

"...And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew he loved me
Cause if he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
He hit me and I was glad"

Zach S, Friday, 11 November 2005 07:15 (eighteen years ago) link

i like the crystals' "please hurt me."

teeth marks on your tongue (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 November 2005 07:17 (eighteen years ago) link

IMHO the word misogyny has been devalued, its definition changed from "psychopathic hatred of women" to "hostility towards any woman."

the way "misogyny" gets promiscously tossed around by pop music critics has everything to do w/this.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Friday, 11 November 2005 12:14 (eighteen years ago) link

"He hit me..." is fucking funny.

duke of marlboro (mickeygraft), Friday, 11 November 2005 13:46 (eighteen years ago) link

i dont think it ever had to be 'psychopathic'
