Or this one: Calvin Klein, nice mid-heel, quite pointy, here

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:21 (seventeen years ago) link

pointy would be good with jeans. trying to be as practical as possible.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm actually really into these for their stodginess, but I think the white plays that up better than the black...still, you know never, you might love them!

I have a gift card for Macy's, can you tell?

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

oh, the Arturo Chiang ones are beautiful! those are my favorites so far. but of course, I want the brown ones most. you'd think 3080 chocolate-brown pairs of shoes would be enough.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Really? I never know what to do with brown, instead of brown shoes I try to wear red or gold or some color that coordinates. I feel like my experiments in brown are all either the wrong shade for certain clothing items or they're too matchy matchy when they're the right shade, so I have officially given up.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:09 (seventeen years ago) link

gold is also a recent weakness of mine, but yeah. love the brown. I do think it sometimes makes me look a little matchy matchy.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I vote for the Calvin Kleins but only because I have a pair identical to them (that I haven't worn yet because I am a wuss and have been entrenched in knee-high boots as soon as the temperature hit below 55)

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I still haven't gotten any knee-high boots this season. soon it will be pointless. :(

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

No, I returned my tall boots and haven't replaced them yet, either. Of course, today might be the first day I would have worn them.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

tall boots are all-weather for me.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

They wouldn't be during a texas summer!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm really bad at making concessions to extreme heat when it comes to fashion.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I never wear little sundresses or spaghetti straps no matter HOW hot, but footwear I am happy to compromise on. Ex: wearing patent black pumps today!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

People were looking at me a bit askew when we were having the 70-80F weather a few days ago here because I was wearing my knee-high boots, but quite frankly I look askew at people who are out in tank tops and shorts and flip flops in 70-and-breezy.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess I could just forgo the pumps and wear my tall boots instead.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

for some reason, those are the people i see when i look out the window to gauge temperature. i end up underdressed and freezing.

xpost

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

walking as much as I do everyday, uncomfortable shoes (which means tall, dark or closed ones in 80+ weather) is simply not an option.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

but that means you can wear peep-toes all the time!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

leather against bare feet in summer = sweaty and gross.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Uh...does that mean you only wear cloth shoes in the summer? Because leather actually does absorb moisture and it breathes, unlike plastic or rubber. And good leather sandals are always an option! Plus they break in so nicely when you're good and sweaty.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I do sometimes wear leather sandals, I thought of that after I posted. But I'd say mostly it's sneakers (with cotton socks when leather). I should just give up and accept my mid-thirties non-fashionable self. I used to actually give a shit about appearance but now I'm just vans and jeans.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Vans are fashionable, I think -- I mean, lots of people around here prob consider them "standard" sneakers but let's face it: in most of the country, "standard" sneakers are not a nice sleek pair of canvas slip-ons that can be ordered in a Jolly Roger/cherry blossom print.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Completely changing the tone for a moment, are these nice? I think they are but when I try and think rationally I'm not sure I can justify them:

http://www.hollandexport.net/loja/images/product_images/popup_images/2196_0.jpg

(They also come with some microchip thingy in the sole that syncs with your ipod and acts as some kind of running computer wtf)

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:32 (seventeen years ago) link

that ipod bit is just weird.

xpost - yeah I wouldn't wear reeboks with tube socks anywhere. I like funky kicks. But if there were vans with hello kittys on them, I'd totally wear them. This proves to my boyfriend, for example, that I have no taste.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I would be shocked, SHOCKED, if there weren't Hello Kitty Vans available somewhere. And if my sister didn't have them. Her tastes are a lot more "cute" than mine, though.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

rejoice! the $225 boots i've been wanting for a while now are on sale!
despair! they're only marked down to $168.
sigh.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:43 (seventeen years ago) link

xps - You have to buy the iPod thing separate.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 21:45 (seventeen years ago) link

update from the mascara thread:

i gave in and bought a pair of black pumps yesterday. they are cute i think and will look good with jeans but i may still need something a bit fancier...

What are the boots, Lauren?

I had a dream that I bought standard black converse, exactly like the one's I have now, because I was trapped in a castle without shoes, and there was a nearby shop with signs in French that sold shoes.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 15 January 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

a pair of frye ankle boots that don't look anything like frye boots. i'm sure i'd get really good wear out of them, but i just can't spend that much on one pair (plus i'm greedy and want them in several colors).

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 January 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I lust after Frye's.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

it's worth the money though, if you really like them - they're so sturdy you'll wear them for 20 years - $200 for that vs. buying 10 pairs of cheap boots that wear out at $50/pair

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:12 (seventeen years ago) link

i have the nike shoes with the pedometer chip thing. its great if you like running!

t0dd swiss (immobilisme), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Frye has really branched out! They have lots to like in the "fashion" line, never mind the perfectly awesome harness & cycle boots per their usual.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Those black heels are really, really adorable, pp! I love everything about them!

Do people still use the term "pumps"? I don't know why that just popped into my head.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:27 (seventeen years ago) link

looking at the frye site is like torture, srsly. i want half the boots/shoes on it!

(and your new shoes are cute, trza!)

Ladies, sorry to be checking out your thread here, but I want to check something.

This IS massively dud and nobody in their right mind would be really wearing boots like these, right? Right?

those are awesome

Those are damn silly. But sometimes silliness is what's called for.

Can you remove the toe part? That's in right now, apparently.

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 4 February 2007 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

despite my piss-taking friends delighting in telling me i look like i should be wearing calipers, and "they're school shoes", i'm pleased with my recent purchase:

I could really do with some casual shoes right now, any suggestions?

Ed (dali), Sunday, 4 February 2007 19:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Charlie, those are awesome. As for the denim cut-outs, I'm sure I've seen some of The Pussycat Dolls wear something very similar. Uck.

would it be strange to say the boot model has attractive knees?

milo z (mlp), Sunday, 4 February 2007 22:28 (seventeen years ago) link

stan: those are an abomination.

milo: nay, unless you're ready to move into an assisted living community and wear your slacks belted midway up your torso.

those simples look like they're made of yoghurt and muesli knitted together....

I am buying these quite soon:

I haven't bought these yet, but I have designed them on Nike ID, and I want your opinion. What do you reckon of the design? What would you tweak?
