One of the biggest reliefs in splitting up w/ my ex was that I could start refusing his brother's collect phone calls.

Beth Parker, Friday, 7 September 2007 23:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I can't pretend to understand that.

Brompton Oratory now. The Boatman's Call is a great I R Drunk album.

onimo, Friday, 7 September 2007 23:35 (sixteen years ago) link

You don't understand because you forget what collect phone calls were? In the dark ages before cellphones people with no money because they were IN PRISON could call you collect, and before connecting them the operator would ask you if you accepted the charges. It was also how you called your parents when you were on the road, to ask them to wire you money.
My kids used to call me collect from the next town when they needed a ride, but instead of saying their name into the recording device, they'd say "corner of Spring and Williams streets." Then I would refuse to accept the charges and go pick them up. We wuz CLEVER.

Beth Parker, Friday, 7 September 2007 23:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry, that should have been an xpost. I understand "collect calls" completely (we called it "reverse charging"). It's the whole "yay punk pussy I'm going to fuck guys for my entire sentence but I'm not gay" thing I don't understand.

onimo, Friday, 7 September 2007 23:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Well at least we straightened that out before I was forced to call you collect just to demonstrate.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:02 (sixteen years ago) link

i really need a 1 a.m. reverse charge phone call from "a woman I know from the Internet" to seal a day of drunken marital bliss.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:23 (sixteen years ago) link

It's ok honey I'll take this omg i'm so dead!

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:24 (sixteen years ago) link

You better go to bed! I'm going to SHOOTER.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm onto whisky and old vinyl now. Bed's a world away.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm going to be so hungover tomorrow. Or 'onimo-ed' as kev_lol says. I need to do this now and then to give some truth to the myth.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:38 (sixteen years ago) link

You are so bad.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:38 (sixteen years ago) link

My computer has decided to start recognising audio disks after days of pissing me off. This means I am having to rip mp3 with not a fucking care about how/what I'm doing. Hopefully default settings let me find it all tomorrow.

Nick Cave's annoying me. I got Arab Strap on now. Given up on attemptingt o play vinyl. too hard.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

OH MY GOD!!!! I JUST OPENED MY AWESOME PATITA PACKAGE!!!!!!!!!!
Many small Chinese toys, probably amply leaded!
A hedgehog that trembles when you pull his string!
A beautiful little book of Angkor Wat photos!
A postcard of an Austin pool that is threatened with runoff pollution!
An inflatable fish!
Other stuff!

God, I love the trembling hedgehog.

Patita, I am mailing you a package! I got a printer ink cartridge from Amazon that came, of course, packed with air-balloons in a way-too-big box, and something made me save the box and the air-balloony things. Now I know why! We should all recycle the stupid packaging thus.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Arab Strap's The Last Romance is one of my faves, esp. There Is No Ending. I played it over and over and over last summer.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 00:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Last Romance is an under-rated classic AS album. Fuck breaking new ground, they did what they did best.

Has anyone ever joined Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman (for Massenet)' and Art of Noise's 'Moments in Love' together? Someone should. I'd buy it if it sounded anything remotely like as good as it is in my head.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 01:10 (sixteen years ago) link

IT'S PAST TWO IN THE MORNING!

I better turn in.

Goodnight Beth, thanks for tolerating my drunkenness.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 01:13 (sixteen years ago) link

YAY Beth! I mailed out a bunch of packages and that's 2 that have been received. Those air pillow things totally rock for random thing-sending. I can't wait to see what you can pack in a box :)

Sam, I have the land-based equivalent here for you.

If you ever make it here, you should see Barton Springs Pool. There's a little salamander that lives there that's found nowhere else in the world!

patita, Saturday, 8 September 2007 03:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I wish I was like this while drunk posting. Instead, the revived "My Cleaner Stinks" thread shows what I end up doing. :-(

I look forward to tales of extreme onimoedness in about an hour when he finally gets up. Had he not said he was out of beer, I would be betting on something like the last ATP when "I overdid it a bit yesterday, I'm going to pace myself properly today" was immediately followed by "does anyone else want a can?".

aldo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 09:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Then again, I have blinkered hindsight.

<cough>Last Christmas, putting the Suicide album on at 5 in the morning round onimo's having drunk pretty much everything in the house.</cough>

Ok that's spooky!

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I have v sore head and an achey breaky neck. I'm testing my stomach's resolve with peanut butter on wholemeal toast :/

I linked to the smelly cleaner thread on the "take off your shoes" thread. So I'm the kind of drunk poster who inspires people to revive threads we'd rather leave buried.

I'm now going to read whatever I typed last night.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesus, the things that happen on this thread when I'm asleep. It's mad! It's like you're all real people with lives and so on.

accentmonkey, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:29 (sixteen years ago) link

That's wasn't too bad. Now I need to look at pink links and see where else I've been spreading the good news.

Drunk or not this is a great idea: Has anyone ever joined Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman (for Massenet)' and Art of Noise's 'Moments in Love' together? Someone should.

There's never a bad time to play the Suicide album but it's usually best left until your totally hammered and Mrs O has given up on any pretension at listening to us and gone to bed.

Hi dere accentmonkey. Posting drunk from yr house on a Friday evening doesn't really qualify as "having a life", I don't think.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm supposed to be tidying up while Mrs O's taking my son to karate. So far I've managed to mess things up a little bit more :(

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi dere accentmonkey. Posting drunk from yr house on a Friday evening doesn't really qualify as "having a life", I don't think.

Ha! How about going to bed sober at 11 pm on a Friday, having been at home all day?

Get cleaning!

accentmonkey, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh man, UK Gold is having a Dr. Who marathon and I have to work today. Goldarn it.

accentmonkey, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Looks like it's all Ecclescake episodes, got them on DVD.

I am toying with Not Drinking today. Problem is the footie's on Sky, which I don't have. Going to the pub and Not Drinking feels wrong to me.

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Mrs O's taking the kids to the Viking Festival in Largs. It's good fun and I should really go with them but I don't want to miss the Scotland game :/

onimo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Take a drink.

aldo, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, look at you.

Do you have a friend who has Sky so you can avoid going to the pub? My brother has Sky and lives in Glasgow. You will have to make friends with him.

Looool where as I feel fresh as a daisy! YAY sobriety.

kv_nol, Saturday, 8 September 2007 11:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm up as well. Already cleaned the kitchen! Mr BP made dinner, which always involves heroic numbers of roasting pans.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 13:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry I disappeared on you Onimo. Shooter beckoned. Not a bad movie. Love the white ghillie-suit scene. The book is superior, though, really bringing you into the sniper-mind, and the complexities of the Donnie back-story.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 13:51 (sixteen years ago) link

working on a saturday!

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Beaching here, if it isn't too windy.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link

oooh nice

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Too Onimo-ed last night. Not physically, just mentally. staying up too late and sleeping too late (I was in bed until nine today! late for me) really messes with my energy and mood. boo.

Ms Misery, Saturday, 8 September 2007 17:15 (sixteen years ago) link

mmmmmm soup. it's too hot out for soup but it's cold in the office so who cares.

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

i really have such a deep reverence for soup

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Windy at the beach, but for a while it was fine. It was a warm wind. Then the sandblasting got a little ouchy and we had to pack it in.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not really into soup honestly. But when it's starts cooling down I'm all about the chili.

Just had some brats and am about to make a sour cherry pie. num!

Ms Misery, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Just had some brats? You mean you just delivered triplets and right away you leap up to bake a pie? I bow down in awe.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:06 (sixteen years ago) link

honestly. mmmm chilllllllllllli

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:07 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh i want some ! ! !

no no: what i really want

is a big pile of crudite with some kind of summery creamy dip. oh my god and champagne. in a field. in england. with pretty women drinking with me.

?

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Just had some brats? You mean you just delivered triplets

Yep and I ate 'em up in a bun smothered with brown mustard. nummmm

Ms Misery, Saturday, 8 September 2007 21:20 (sixteen years ago) link

ewwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 21:33 (sixteen years ago) link

The wurst kind of brats.
I just walked the dog on one of the woodland trails near my house and harvested a few wild hazelnuts. I'm going to try roasting them.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 8 September 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

wow that sounds really like, not here.

Surmounter, Saturday, 8 September 2007 23:54 (sixteen years ago) link

and great.
