"my taste in video games is really limited/specific" coz it's hardly limited/specific at all! Y're normal dude.

HEY LOOK ANOTHER PUZZLE INVOLVING JUMPING
SHOOT SOME BATS
The first few levels really are like this, and I didn't bother with the rest.
― abanana, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 08:18 (fifteen years ago) link
if i had voted, my top 5 would have been
1. TETRIS ATTACK 2. STREET FIGHTER 2 3. FINAL FANTASY 3/6 4. STAR CONTROL 2 5. CIVILIZATION 2
i guess only one made the top-100..
― phil-two, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link
no one has made a good defense of boob raider yet! Phil two's list is pretty dope. Civ 1 & 2 were good games.
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:00 (fifteen years ago) link
not a complaint per se, but i'd question why some games were available to vote for as a series while other sequels were in there individually. it's a pretty interesting list regardless. yay for Monkey Island making the top ten.
― Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:05 (fifteen years ago) link
Yea I would kind of say that all the GTA3 games were just "mission packs"
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:09 (fifteen years ago) link
Dom, did you not get mine. I voted Vice City number one but didn't get credit for it ?
― Ste, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:15 (fifteen years ago) link
tomb raider was all about atmosphere for me.
― caek, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:15 (fifteen years ago) link
the GTA games were vastly different from each other, in comparison the Gran Turismo series all looked the flippin same.
― Ste, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 13:17 (fifteen years ago) link
Like I said I think it's incredibly atmospheric, the music and the visuals give me a real sense of place and made me want to explore it. I like the melancholy of it and the almost loneliness of those remote tombs, and it achieves that despite shitty cut scenes and crap voice acting.

at the time it was pretty novel. even if the formula got pretty stale with all the sequels.

but equally the championship manager games on the amiga were totally different beasts from the one Dom and Louis are OCD about today. pro evolution soccer series (this is called Winning Eleven in the US right? lol) similarly changed a lot from the original incarnations of it.
monkey island one and two otoh, as with a number of other games in that list, were very much cut from the same cloth ----> vote splitting. as a series they would have presumably cracked the top 5. Governor Elaine marley the first fictioinal character i had a crush on.

Just like to point out that last night on Football Manager 2008, I got Northampton Town promoted to the Premiership. In the 2016/2017 season. On the playoffs. After we'd been out of the play-offs all season up to the last three games. And losing the first leg 5-3 (won the second leg 2-0 and got through on penalties). And won the final 1-0 after West Brom had their catain sent off in the third minute.
Our ground capacity is 13,500. We are going to get royally SHAGGED this season.

The game I am playing right now I got Ipswich up to the Prem in 2009-2010, and I think I am going to finish in 17th place! Woooooooo! They're one of the easier Champ teams, but all champ teams are difficult in the Prem...

― INDIE BAND (Lamp), Thursday, 27 October 2011 03:10 (twelve years ago) link
i support this proposition for a decade specific poll
regarding the poll - STILLLLLLL, i'm not seeing why mario is warranted enough to gain multiple positions. the platformers were all very, very much the same game... innovative, possibly, in context of themselves but never in the wider spectrum of things. also i suspect iconoclasm for not including shadow of the colossus - as it is a really, truly great game.

j-rpg's, definitely. but fact that skyrim has it's own pre-launch parties and has been advertised off the fucking ying yang (television ads??) makes me thing rpg's have broken into that lower tier of nerdom.
or maybe its just bethesda games. i was thinking fallout 3 as another case-study til i realized these are all games developed by the same dudes.
