You guys, I don't want to study anymore. I want to enjoy watching the GOP implode. Does that make me a bad person?

sr-c do you discuss politics with yr parents much? bill clinton was the first democrat my dad ever voted for (he is now 72) -- he's actually now embarrassed to have ever been a republican.

was i dissed when jj came to nyc? maybe i was elsewhere, and sad

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 October 2008 01:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I try, mookieproof, but usually I just get hit with bizarre right wing talking points and racist crap, so I realize it's entirely a hopeless cause. My Dad used to have some sense, but then Clinton came along and he'll still go on about how the Clintons killed Vince Foster... it doesn't matter how crazy it is, the Republicans are always perfect and right and the Democrats are always inherently evil. Weirdly, my Mom *did* have qualms about Palin at the beginning - because of her kids' names! - but now she's totally on board. I probably have to go over there on the Sunday before the election, so that should be a fun afternoon.

But hey, good for your Dad for coming around. If there's an antidote you gave him, I'd sure love to get some for my family.

I know I shouldn't take it personally, but part of it is that I want the Dad back who encouraged intellectual growth in me when I was a kid, not the one who embraces anti-intellectual nonsense.

The upside is that I think he does have a modicum of respect for me, since I don't hesitate to call him out on this stuff. (So I've earned the respect of a conspiracy theorist! Wait, that really shouldn't mean anything, should it).

Sara R-C, Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:05 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, maybe I could be adopted into your family...?

Sara R-C, Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:05 (fifteen years ago) link

i would be happy to have you! we are kind of insane in our own way, though, and lots of my not parents or sisters family are totally illogical and repub.

Well, anything would be an improvement at this point. ;)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, back to my boring weight lifting and then studying more b.s. Friday evening. Ugh!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:10 (fifteen years ago) link

haha in the mid-90s my facist grandmother (rip) once, over the carving of the turkey at thanksgiving (sadly i was not there), declared that vince foster was murdered and that the semen found in his trousers was not his own. my (awesome) aunt stormed out.

she attributed my lack of a "real" job in the nineties to bill clinton, so it's probably just as well she didn't live to see W.

i don't even really talk politics until i'm drunk (hi!) but at least these days i'm in a reasonably unassailable position...

nytimes not so great on article usage:

WOW that's delightfully spazzy. Maybe they wuz in a rush.

I've just booked November 5th off of work so can continue my decade long tradition of staying up all night for US elections. I have £120 riding on this one (which admittedly is not much compared to the future of the western world) so pls to not screew it up for me.

Reading your tales I'm almost wishing my family had a little more loony right in it but alas I must endure my non-arguments with people that agree with me.

And another request for weightlifting pics. :D

Fear not tehresa, I am as committed to Obama as I can be. I've never been as emotionally or otherwise invested in politics as I am right now in your election.

mr mookieproof, you were not ignored - this was many months ago and was a frenzied and hectic speedrun of philly and NYC which also included a wedding somewhere in there. next time i east coast it, i will be more prepared

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:46 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry but weightlifting is for me something of a GRRR activity. which I haven't done for a while so arms are not as solid as i might liek.

senator which fanta girl u blap? (Upt0eleven), Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:47 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean firm. It is transatlantically late and I wish you all well.

senator which fanta girl u blap? (Upt0eleven), Saturday, 11 October 2008 02:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm just bitter because it doesn't matter how heavy the weights I lift are, my arms are always going to look like shapeless because I can't tan. (And I'm sorry, I refuse to use those self-tanners).

Maybe steroids really ARE the answer, but I think hiding my arms under clothing is more likely!

hey i just watched a really great Thai thriller called "13: game of death". it was awesome.

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 October 2008 03:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, here is what I like about not being able to tan: my younger sister now looks older than me because she can and does. So HA!

I don't usually strive for "hott;" I am happy if I can get "presentable!"
