But unlike almost everyone else in those early months, I didn't know anyone from Usenet. Somehow I started reading Freaky Trigger/NYLPM a few months before, and then a post mentioned the board.

So we've about a year to organise that big 10th anniversary WorldFAP then?

Hmm, search tells me my first ILM post was in December of 2001, but that was by an a-hole who liked to go around pretending to be other people. I actually showed up in May of 2002 to call shenanigans, and have hung around ever since (originally posting with my real name). "Johnny Fever" was born in September of 2003.

I take this place for granted most of the time, but I've really had a good time here the last seven years. And I've learned a hell of a lot.

Happy birthday you dear old thing. And a massive thankyou to Keith & the backroom people for making everything so much smoother and more usable without losing its essence at all.

(I find ILM too addictive and tempting to even lurk mostly - I rely on people to pass the good stuff on - but I've been enjoying the P2K reaction threads.)

Here from very nearly the beginning - I posted on a thread called The UK Music Press: Has It Ever Been Good? on Aug 31, 2000. It wasn't a very good post but Stevie T made a better one immediately afterwards to which I responded "I agree with Stevie". I should have mostly stuck with the latter approach.

I was scanning back through AMA via Google Groups a few years ago and realized exactly how many of those folks made the jump over here; it was kind of frightening! (Also made me wonder what happened to folks like ML Compton and Mark Bartlam.) I also stumbled across what was probably my first Usenet post, back in September 1991 on rec.music.industrial... and it was answered by donut bitch!

ML's still around, just saw him earlier this year at Sparks.

About the only a.m.a. regulars who never turned up besides ML and Mark were Persi and G*ndola B*b.

Whoa! If I feel old after having posted here for 7,5 years, I wonder how the people who were here from the beginning feel? Are there even many of those left? All I can think of is Dan, Ned, and Kate.

Looking at threads from ILX's first month, I see Sundar, Tim F., Nicole, Michael Jones, Mark R., Alba.

I showed up in 2002, became Johnny Fever in 2003, and I apologize for all the rest. Happy Birthday ILX!

Appropriate that Alba was there at the dawn of ILX and that Sundar was there for that beautiful event.

The person who first dragged me onto ILX (Elvis Telecom) is still posting. I kind of hate him for ruining my life.
