The happy couple must slowdance to "This Guy's In Love With You" by Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass.

I always wanted to have "Computer Love" played at my wedding. You know, if you have a pitch control on your turntable, that song sounds absolutely beautiful pitched all the way down. A tearjerker, almost.

I DJd a friend's wedding a few weeks ago and these went down particularly well across all age ranges!
Shannon - Let The Music Play
Destiny's Child - Independent Women
Althea & Donna _ Uptown Top Ranking
Womack & Womack - Teardrops
TLC - Waterfalls
Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance
De La Soul - Eye Know
Lauryn Hill - I Love You Baby
Julie London - Fly Me To The Moon
Frank Sinatra - I Get A Kick Out Of You
Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight
Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head
... and although it wasn't out then I'd have to add "Scandalous" by Mis-Teeq, just cos it's my fave new bit of sugary gal pop...

Dave I believe you, but the overlap between my list and your list = so miniscule it's no tool at all! ;) Though I did think about singing 'I get a kick out of you' instead of giving a speech.

Zora (Zora), Sunday, 16 March 2003 22:49 (11 years ago) Permalink

it's a classic - you should do! people will remember it for years to come!

interestingly enough a friend of told me the other day that he was doing a wedding and was asked to put a CD on while people milled around before the speeches etc... for some unknown reason he put on the Langley School Choir album... went down spectacularly badly, unsurprisingly, so try to avoid that!

Man, that was very rude of me. I appreciate all suggestions, honest. I guess what I really want is a way to make what we've already got *work*, and if a a few tunes we haven't thought of will make it go smoother than that's great. Don't want to start again w/ a whole new set tho. Trouble for you lot (having re-read the list) is that our taste in music, though passionate and to us, consistent, probably looks kinda bizarre & arbitrary to others. I mean, I can happily get from Marilyn Manson to Steps in 4 easy, er.. steps; how would you guess that Buffalo Stance makes me want to scream and break windows?!

deej, Sunday, 27 April 2008 05:09 (5 years ago) Permalink

haha thanks dude

i've got a lot of stuff figured out already but am trying to flesh out the R&B/jazz selections without going all the way obvious. the songs I started w/ that i'm kind of working off of vibe-wise are like Prince's "Adore" and the Aaliyah version of "At Your Best." also doing a lot of goofy 70s classic rock.

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 27 April 2008 05:18 (5 years ago) Permalink

also currently trying to decide between "Int'l Players Anthem" or going straight to "I Choose You."

I can't stop laughing at the post in this thread where Jess suggests "Lithium" and "Crawling" and I have no idea if he was serious or kidding, and it doesn't matter.

4 years pass...

• Is it OK to play "OPP"? Song makes ppl go bananas, but doesn't exactly have a pro-wedding message.
• Should I be worried about playing Mystikal?
• Can I play Average White Band's kind of dirty "Cut the Cake" for when we cut the cake?

suidavyvan eht nioj (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 29 April 2012 00:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

Skip OPP and put on Don't Believe the Hype & Crazy in Love imo
