i should probably mention when they play at ATP New York in a few weeks they're basically going to be performing for a whole day, improvising with members of other bands playing the event and recording it all in order to release the highlights. me = pretty hyped.

Goddamn I love these guys.

alright, "10:30 at the Oasis" is chillwave. Had to be said.

Rated O just gets better and better. The River is such an awesome song. Did anybody nom it for the 05-09 Tracks Poll?

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I didn't nominate any of the songs for the Tracks poll because it was so. fucking. hard. to pick just a few. Just an astounding album all around.

I would have voted for either/both The River and The Life You Preferred.

Love me some Rated O. Love the opening track the best.

saw these guys back in may and they started off with "sheets of easter." hilarious watching a crowd get really into it at first and then realize around 2 minutes in, "oh shit, are they seriously going to keep playing this?"

also according to bandmember showtime the last LP in the trilogy is finished and going to be called "Absolute II"

Bastards of Young Dro, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:30 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ this thread. at least one member of oneida used to post regularly on here at that time, i'm surprised yanc3 didn't realize that.

we put on a secret show for them in london five years or so back, and the setlist was 'sheets of easter'/'new day rising'. it was unbelievably awesome.

are you some kinda rap version of marc loi (stevie), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link

For my money the best "rock" band in New York right now. Have seen them a bunch of times over the last year and they have always brought it in different ways. Ironic this was bumped today as their "Presents the Ocropolis" show was just announced for the Godspeed ATP, further tempting me to sell everything I own and head over to that. I was quite disappointed that more people didn't place Rated O high on their Best-of lists last year. Best LP released that's even in the orbit of "rock" music.

MFB, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:53 (thirteen years ago) link

^Yes, to all of that, although I think Rated O is the kind of album that takes a long time to really sink in, because there's just so much of it and it takes so many different turns.

Will be dling both sets tonight! Love this band so much. Any news on the third in the "Thank Your Parents" trilogy yet? Not that I'm even close to bored with Rated O, but always ready for more.

"I am a fairly respected poster." (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 29 October 2010 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm sure I read somewhere that part three isn't coming out until summer 2011, although a quick search for that hasn't turned up any concrete info so I might be misremembering. Kid says it has no drums and will be one disc:

What's the third part going to be like?

KM: It's going to be no drums. It's done, it's finished. I don't know when it's coming out. We have to submit it to the label first but it is done.

Are there any morsels of information you can tell us about it?

KM: It's conceptually coherent and it is one disc long. It's kind of all the same piece.

Thanks. I admit to being skeptical about the "no drums" thing, but I'm sure these guys can pull off something amazing anyway.

That article was great. This band is almost "too good." A ridiculous, overused phrase. But seriously? Seriously.
