i kind feel like "who really owns twitter" like we have been there and have been posting and now because a rich nazi buys all the stock we have to leave, but since elon is just completely running the site into the ground it doesnt really matter that much anyway, in some ways its a good outcome since before twitter was too powerful and often bad but now its less powerful every day, but also its sad since there was some funny stuff on there

It's still possible to publish good and interesting things on Twitter. Its owner wants to see certain things published, so he encourages people to post that type of thing, but you can just mute/block those people and keep doing your thing in a semi-surreptitious fashion. In a way it's like when people in the Soviet Union used to press records on used X-rays because the music they wanted to hear had to be smuggled in.

he's boosting those right wingers though because they are the only ones to pay for twitter blue. it's not just a free for all, some voices are being promoted and others not.

I think at the point where I'm unable to not see those blue ticks (I just don't follow anyone like that) with the min effort is when I will delete.

Overall, there has been little change. I would argue things have improved slightly except some ppl I like have stopped posting bcz they can't see past the weirdo owner (as if Jack wasn't weird).

Clearly you're too young to know how to operate within/sustain a cultural underground. No one's gonna "promote" you — you have to do the digging to find people whose interests align with yours, and then preserve those relationships and alignments yourself. It's work.

In one of William Gibson's novels, written when Twitter was new, two characters use it as a messaging service by only following each other. It is possible to create a sealed-off world within Twitter where you only follow a select group of people, they follow you, and you exchange information.

Or you can just post goofy shit and have fun and not go around pretending that your every action online has global significance.

The most off-putting culture clash to me right now is the way so many Asian accounts and/or companies have 88 in their name because in their culture it means like "super good luck," so I get emails from some streetwear company called 88 Rising and shudder every time.
