yeah, i've also been locked out of my account. "we've detected suspicious activity" was the message iirc. now i'm stuck in an authentication test where i move the animal to face in the direction of the hand. i do all 5 correctly and it says 'something is not quite right' every time. it feels like a blessing overall though i will be significantly more news-poor now.

this is actually the single worst thing to happen to Twitter, for me personally at least, because now for every popular tweet the top replies are from the worst people.

The thing i wonder is why these people are paying to amplify their tweets when they’re just repeating the same things a thousand other people are tweeting

now that blue checks are floating to the top of replies it basically guarantees that all the worst posters get the first reponse, since no decent poster would ever pay for Twitter Blue. not only do they all say the same shit every single one of them is weirdly obsessed with their like/RT/view metrics and talk about them nonstop. amazing how much worse Twitter got in just one week

they should add the emoticon rating system where you get to choose whether a post makes you laugh, cry, angry, confused, happy, or sick

ive been blocking them, for the cause, but i feel kinda conflicted since i also want to see the train wreck

I've seen some Twitter Blue subscribers say stuff like "why WOULDN'T you want to pay a small fee to make your tweet perform well?" And it's like, if I'm paying to make it happen, then it sort of ruins whatever thrill there is from a tweet that takes off organically. I guess if you're just being cold-eyed about it and just want to accrue followers at all costs, then fine, whatever. But I find that approach kind of depressing.

oh yeah poker guys are very weird about their engagement, they do the same annoying shit all the big Youtubers do but most of them are getting less than 1000 views on each video, probably because they're such boring and uncharismatic people who refer to videos as "content". they're good videos if you wanna learn the game though

a few poker guys have good videos but yeah mostly theyre pretty bad

the whole culture of youtube –content creators– is so terrible and bizarre but also kind of fascinating, theyre completely cloistered reinventing the wheel, poorly and weirdly

one thing they do that you dont see on real tv is talk about their process, hence using the term content creator, it must be effective giving people that parasocial thrill, but id rather they not

I play PLO so there's only like 2 or 3 European guys out there making decent vids but I think JNandez is pretty decent. you wouldn't know it though from the thumbnails of him with a wide open mouth pointing to a graph with a title like "POKER PRO MAKES WORST CALL EVER!??"

i guess some people do make money using these strategies.

my feeling is mostly people who do big youtube numbers are just making "good content" and the analytics are secondary, like theyll look at how videos perform and base decisions on that but mostly the reason theyre getting big views is because theyre making things people want to watch

which is somewhat different than say tiktok where trends play a bigger role

xp otm, watch and share with their friends. word of mouth still underrated compared to under the dash analytics.

otoh you have guys like Mr. Beast who built an empire by relentlessly studying what kind of YouTube content gets the most engagement, everything from topic to length to thumbnail to title. you could argue he's making "good content" but really he's letting YouTube's algorithm dictate basically everything he does. which I guess is not too dissimilar to how a lot of pop songs get written if you actually listen to the Swedish dudes who are writing them
