twitter meets nytimes meets ilx on the blockchain

When Tweetshelf shut down its free service a few weeks ago, I found myself addictively scrolling Twitter again. Now I'm considering paying for Tweetshelf so I can see the articles people are sharing without feeding my habit. But that's also a feature of Twitter Blue, so it sort of makes me feel like a chump, even tho I wouldn't be giving my money directly to Twitter.

When I’m dumb enough to click on a Musk tweet or reply I used to see people roasting him, now all I get are his most pathetic reply guys cheering him on.

So now NPR is "state-affiliated media." I so want to just dump Twitter completely, but I'm a reporter, a lot of the people I cover are on there saying things, I can't just turn it off.

that tweet did get me curious about who actually funds npr. while npr itself isn't funded by the gov, it does receive member fees from its member stations, who themselves are funded (a little bit) by the CPB, which effectively makes NPR federally funded.

that said, i agree with caek that tesla/space X are far more subsidized by the gov (and honestly, what industry isn't the government subsidizing in some way?) and it's obviously not the same circumstance as china daily, etc.

there are legit usa gov media outlets like radio free europe which btw did not get a tag

i think i know somebody who works at voices of america or a VoA affiliated org

and yeah, not expecting elon to be consistent in the least here hah

iirc NPR has never gotten more than 4% of their money from government grants in my lifetime
