tbh between my post not long ago about how maybe Elon’s strategy could work, if he wasn’t such a self-aggrandizing weirdo, and my recent attempts to understand latter-day SV mindset, I’ve been starting to question if I should have tried to move out to the bay area to join a startup fifteen years ago

mh, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 03:02 (one year ago) link

y'all really like saying 'bootlicker' huh

If the boot fits.

Anyway, silby otm, you absolutely do not have to say anything, let alone that. And considering in one tweet she was talking about the number of people she mutes while feeling ok with replying to gr0ypers - yeah I’m going to say this is someone who really did believe in this grind culture stuff and got burned by it. Good.

Yeah sorry, these types of people are the exact reason why people like me had to leave the Bay Area. I don’t care about them losing their jobs or their fortunes or anything— many of them will have made in a few years what I will make in the next decade. Fuck them and fuck their defenders.

elon has done many bad, stupid things with twitter, but one thing he deserves credit for is switching up the buttons seemingly at random multiple times a day. this is important to prevent the formation of muscle memory, keeping users from entering The Poster’s Flow

Completely down right now?

recovering internet addict/shitposter (viborg), Wednesday, 1 March 2023 10:46 (one year ago) link

Yes, "Welcome to Twitter! Here's some suggestions for you to get started!"

trishyb, Wednesday, 1 March 2023 10:53 (one year ago) link

front pages ("for you" and "following") are both down; individual timelines are still there tho i'm not sure if they're updating (possible artefact of ppl not updating them during downtime)

if you click on the #twitterdown hashtag it takes you to the "top" timeline for that hashtag but if you then click on "latest" it tells you that no such hashtag can be found lol

BREAKING: Biden calls for a national draft. Men and women are to be selected to fight in Ukriane.

Of course nu Twitter wouldn’t dare take a deepfake video of the president down but they will tack on a little contextual note at the bottom as they platform it.

The web app has been giving me "there was a login to your account from a new device" notifications like crazy since yesterday. I log in and out a lot and as far as I can tell every instance is me. I changed my pwd to be safe and it keeps happening. Great site!

same here. have been using the website more because the app is a pile of garbage recently (nothing in Following, posts from people i'm following in For You, and then posts from last month)

what elon shouldve done was fire everyone except for the developers and then just let them go hog wild why not have a lil fun

API issue seems to be resolved, for now anyway. Who knows what's next? It's providing an added dose of daily chaos in our lives, it's good, it makes us adaptable. Elon doesn't want us to get stuck in our ruts, gotta shake things up.

there's this meme that twitter doesn't have a dev environment but ... it does. it's pretty easy to catch this class of configuration bug because all twitter employees on the internal network get the dev environment when they visit twitter.com. i'm guessing part of the the problem now is there are so few users outside pacific time, so they make a change in the middle of the night, don't get any complaints because there are no internal users in like tokyo or singapore any more, and think that means it's good to ship.

heh total rewrite should do the trick

“A small API change had massive ramifications,” Musk tweeted later in the day, after Twitter investor Marc Andreessen posted a screenshot showing that the company’s API failures were trending on the site. “The code stack is extremely brittle for no good reason. Will ultimately need a complete rewrite.”

NEW: Twitter went down today because its migration to a paid API has a single site reliability engineer attached to it. Here’s @ZoeSchiffer and me on the high price of cutting costs:https://t.co/yjAHeVkgYl pic.twitter.com/6QVURpHagc
