"no one particularly wants to be naked in a locker room or anywhere with strangers or possibly with anyone anywhere at any time naked or not" just a little too long for a display name

Joyce Carol Oates is doing so well on Twitter recently I’m wondering if she’s being subbed for

Josefa, Sunday, 19 February 2023 21:57 (one year ago) link

i hope she gets into it with jesse singal

true! mainstream media seizes upon highly atypical, microscopic samples of an issue that affects virtually no one, amplifies it maniacally, continues to focus upon it as if it were some sort of threat to the commonweal, & not an amplified paranoid-figment of media imagination. https://t.co/NekhibYvRK

the sentiment is good but doesnt have the visionary thought levels of her best work such as complaining about halloween decorations being insinuative to those who have been touched by death or of musing that there must be something good about isis

lag∞n, Monday, 20 February 2023 03:20 (one year ago) link

She tweeted this a year ago, fwiw:

US where millions of voters are roiled to a frenzy by the notion of trans persons existing but seem totally oblivious to political ploys to insure their perpetual servitude in low paying jobs & pathetic health care.

Joyce Carol Oates is definitely swinging for the fences. I like following her

Dan S, Friday, 24 February 2023 01:40 (one year ago) link

I’m frankly amazed at her recent tweets. An old woman pretty much mic dropping on the trans debate.

Josefa, Friday, 24 February 2023 01:43 (one year ago) link

didn't take long to get back to the era where you'd click a trending topic and it would just be a bunch of random stuff with the same assortment of hashtags which had nothing to do with the post for whatever reason

frogbs, Friday, 24 February 2023 22:33 (one year ago) link

when you click on a notification that someone has liked your tweet, it no longer sends you to that tweet (or a list of the three tweets of yours they have liked) - it just sends you to the list of liked tweets on their profile, which also seems to be about a day out of date. why?

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Friday, 24 February 2023 22:36 (one year ago) link

this has NEVER WORKED xpost

kurt schwitterz, Friday, 24 February 2023 22:59 (one year ago) link

I think before Elon's takeover there was definitely a team filtering the stuff trending for no reason out. would definitely slip through sometimes though.

frogbs, Friday, 24 February 2023 23:06 (one year ago) link

This seems bleak.

1) Serious foreign influence campaigns continue online.

2) Twitter no longer is working with Facebook on these investigations and seems to be completely open to manipulation.

3) Twitter's elimination of transparency mechanisms will make this problem even worse. https://t.co/3BEMM1jv0H

I personally knew one (1) engineer who thought the acquisition was good news. Anti mask, anti vax, pro just asking questions logic guy. He scoffed at people who worried about it, and told me I was making a mistake when I quit. He got fired in that first week. That was pretty good too.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Sunday, 26 February 2023 21:22 (one year ago) link

He’d been there ten years. Awful person but very effective senior staff engineer. But because he was effective at that level he wrote about five lines of code per year. Whoops! Leopard MY face.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 26 February 2023 21:45 (one year ago) link

I’d say “sad” but it really, really isn’t.

The worst take you could have from watching me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake. Those who jeer & mock are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena. I’m deeply proud of the team for building through so much noise & chaos. 💙
