i had it i sent some yos

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 20:59 (one year ago) link

i always thought how that one came together was "hey - what if when you're outside someone's apartment you could just send them a 'yo' with an app? there's probably a million other ways it could be used like that too!"

but then it turned out that there was only one use case, and they had already thought of it

xpost did you ever use it in a situation that wasn't letting someone know you were at their apartment?

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:01 (one year ago) link

i just did it for fun, iirc obvs it started as a joke but then they came up with the more serious use case of having accounts that were called like "its going to rain in cleveland today" and when that was true they would send you a yo, not sure if that ever happened tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:04 (one year ago) link

I've come round to really wanting something like Yo now but only if 'Yo' was just the default and you could choose your own one word with different individuals.

So the big innovation for the Twitter killer is not having a chronological timeline of people you follow, in favor of an entirely “for you” generated timeline, the thing everyone hates about Twitter’s recent changes and that made everyone under the age of 50 stop using Facebook a half decade ago?

yes except now that tiktok is popular they are trying it again

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:17 (one year ago) link

Can’t wait for the text version of 20 million Xennials doing the Wednesday dance with dead eyes to drive engagement.

Artifact — the name represents the merging of articles, facts, and artificial intelligence

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:18 (one year ago) link

its so funny when media ppl decide the world doesnt have enough facts

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:18 (one year ago) link

tho tbf it seems like its more of an algo rss feed, tries to find you articles you will like, which maybe could be good idk i dont think most people suffer from not enough articles to read

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 January 2023 21:21 (one year ago) link

lol

Systrom also told me Artifact will take seriously the job of serving readers with high-quality news and information. That means an effort to include only publishers who adhere to editorial standards of quality

...

Both left- and right-leaning publishers were included; you’ll find Fox News there, for example.

rip bots the best part of twitter

Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead 🧵

wait does that mean all my lovely artbots and so on? ffs twitter has been good not mad the last six weeks bcz my bots just ploughed on regardless giving my RANDOM CONTENT (algebra, astrology, art, vids of ppl falling over in funny ways on CCTV)

if i have to engage with PEOPLE i might as well be reading AI generated scripts, ppl suck and are dumb

mark s, Thursday, 2 February 2023 13:38 (one year ago) link

good not mad

mark s, Thursday, 2 February 2023 13:39 (one year ago) link

mark s, Thursday, 2 February 2023 13:39 (one year ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2023 14:37 (one year ago) link

theyre gonna fire more people lol

Elon Musk sent an email to Twitter employees telling them to write a one pager on what they accomplished in January, what they plan to accomplish in February, and "any ideas you have for improving Twitter." Twitter has also implemented another change freeze.

, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:22 (one year ago) link

idk might put it on lol mastodon or mb try to figure out a way to automate posting via browser tho thats one of those things that tend to break a lot and you have to keep messing with which doesnt appeal to me that much

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:25 (one year ago) link

maybe ill start a newsletter that sends an email every half hour

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:26 (one year ago) link

once they get rid of bots, it's going to make those scientific vox populi polls even more accurate

Karl Malone, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:26 (one year ago) link

Every SpongeBob Frame In Order also signing off sadly

mark s, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:27 (one year ago) link

The people who get to senior positions in companies like Twitter will have imbibed large quantities of "leadership" training, digital change management whitepapers etc and then Elon comes in and is like, what is your favorite color, okay great right answer i'm putting you in charge of global marketing

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:28 (one year ago) link

its so silly all the funny lil bots obviously add value to twitter, they already charge for programs that suck up a lot of twitters data, dont see the value in charging ppl just to post whos going to pay for that

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2023 16:29 (one year ago) link

KEEP TWITTER WEIRD

smh

sault bae (voodoo chili), Thursday, 2 February 2023 18:20 (one year ago) link

it was a good account. always knew it was time to stop scrolling whenever i came across one of those tweets lol

sault bae (voodoo chili), Thursday, 2 February 2023 18:21 (one year ago) link

occurs to me that this will also kill all the apps that professional marketers use to schedule track etc their tweets doesnt seem good for a site whos advertising is cratering, and it wont actually kill those apps which generally support multiple platforms theyll just drop twitter functionality which is so much worse than if they just died

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 February 2023 18:22 (one year ago) link

xp we can do it here instead
