was just gonna say as shitty as twitter is, it's less shitty than instagram

i assume some genzer in a garage is currently finishing a stripped down open source freeware bare bones social media interaction app with relative ease of use and without ads that is going to be everyone's default in the next year or two
mastodon is clearly not it but it's pointing to the it

however, unlike most tech products, this is a clear problem in search of a solution which for some reason is not profitable

I get offered lots of videos of gorillas and orangutans on Instagram, which is fine by me.

I set up blogging software the other day and I still have a flickr account so if anyone wants the rss feed link or whatever soon I will have ~content~

main reason I'm on instagram is because the nice food shop up the road only ever puts its random opening times on there and not its actual website

Insta is obsessed with showing me content about Zendaya and some guy Tom?? I don't know who he is, I only know Zendaya because she is beautiful and was in the OA.

Facebook loves to show me bloopers from The Office and sometimes Friends.

twitter is def better than instagram but its also prob worse, theres some good stuff on instagram but overall its pretty blah, lot of marketing brain aspiring marketing brain and so forth

one thing twitter has going for it is its so rowdy that its somewhat resistant to that sort of thing

instagram (and maybe tiktok now?) is funny because way back to the blog era people were really into the whole “cultivating an aesthetic” thing in lieu of having a personality and now the high follower accounts are “what is my shtick and how can I monetize it?” and there are endless people doing silly dances or making weird faces at the camera in identical white and stainless steel kitchens

theres a mostly sad but kind of lol cycle with influencers where they get big followings by a cultivating an aesthetic following their bliss approach but inevitably their audiences will get board with them and they have to start working for the views doing dances hopping on trends and so forth, i saw a video by one of the paul brothers a while ago where he was doing this really involved craft project that clearly took all day if not more and was like wow they really put him to work lol

I think that’s what the reinstated right wing grift types on the site don’t get. Nobody is checking them out anymore because that project is over and people are into different shit now

yeah saw some thing about the video site rumble where theyve brought on all these big names greenwald charlie kirk etc but their view counts have total cratered and the stuff thats getting eyeballs is like about pre ice age advanced civilizations ancient aliens type shit they managed to attract an audience that loves very stupid conspiracy theories but theyve tired of the politics ones and have moved on to other stuff

IIRC, someone here (Mike, maybe) predicted that Twitter would quickly shutter their generous media uploads. It appears that’s happened. Try copying an image from a browser tab (“Copy Image”) then pasting it into a tweet. It now pastes the URL rather than the image.
