I suspect that if he gets convicted of human trafficking and lives the rest of his life in a Romanian prison, that won't actually give his brand a boost

The rumor I believe is that he lost his protection from the Cămătarilor clan (they are one of the families that runs prostitution and gambling in Bucharest) because of the publicity.

Romania is not Schengen. They know when a non citizen is in the country.

IIUC their story is they gathered enough evidence, then confirmed his location. I assume they checked social media when doing that, but Romania is not a preindustrial country. They probably also phoned the border people.

He’s been in the country for weeks on this trip hasn't he? He is a very prominent resident/visitor whose home address is known to hundreds of people. They don’t need a social post. I don’t mean to defend cops but a lot of what I see on social media seems to treat Romania as a bit of a joke.

yeah and again theyve already raided the home once before. there are a few easier more obvious ways for a militarized police force to determine if he's home than keeping track of twitter clapbacks and triangulating his location based on nearby pizza franchises. twitter addicts once again assuming the entire world as obsessed w/twitter as they are.

Seems plausible to me that the Romanian police were preparing to arrest him but when he posted a video showing that he was in Romania it suddenly became an embarrassment to them, so they picked him up ahead of plan.

my final theory which is also the true story is some informant saw the twitter video and called the police like hey that guy andrew tate is in the country i know because of the pizza they said oh damn really thanks then then called another informant and were all hey do you know where andrew tate is and the informant was like yeah lol hes at this house then they went over there
