Also, OF COURSE Prince can rock, and plays guitar like a motherfucker, but I'd never say "the rocking" was Prince's strength (he's better at "the funking" and, invariably, "the fucking"). Billy Idol, meanwhile, was in both Chelsea (albeit briefly) and Generation X, who -- though a bit powderpuff next to their Brit-Punk peers, EXCELLED at "the rocking" (certainly more so than Prince, at least).

I guess we're parsing our terms ("rock"), but I'd suggest that seeing Generation X in their prime was a great deal more of a ROCK experience than seeing Prince circa Purple Rain. While Prince could easily outplay Generation X in the talent and finesse department, Gen-X's blunt, yobbish, finesse-free attack just stands to rock a gread deal harder (note: this is not to say that it's better music but rather that it is simply a good deal rockier than Prince).

Gen-X's renditioni of "Dancing with Myself" is the same recording as Idol's, only with Steve Jones' (ex-Pistol/Professional) guitar excised from the mix.
