don't know how to classify this new reissue 12 on musique pour la danse. maybe a fool's errand since it's from that semi-mythical era (1991) when the only genres were cash-in shit and perfect, immortal bangers. one of the tracks is sort of blissed-out bleep, one of is kind of proto-trance / belgian post-ebm hybrid, the alternate mixes hint at funky acid breaks. i'm really into the first two tracks, which are "bio rhythms" style homage to late 80s detroit with strong "rainforest" vibes, not too far from what claude young was doing around the same time w/ his low key alias or some art l forest productions

Love Yoshiesque 1 and this track. I guess it does have a Morello / Romero vibe though in my head it kinda gets subsumed within the overall soft-focus vaseline lens floatiness of that mix.

uk garage always somewhat impenetrable for me, but have been giving it another go and really like some of his productions. has a zillion aliases, definitely some commercial crud to wade through (I assume he was massive?), but the earlier stuff is quite special! some of the other posts here are mixes/playlists he's featured in and it's interesting to see who he shows up next to.

at times sounding very french house with heavy use of samples and cut up vocals. others sounding so bouncy and boomy with sampled chord stabs I can't help but think of Shed! and I can almost hear how some of these could've influenced Last Exit.

Christopher Just - Jeff After Four Roses

This came up in conversation at the weekend. I'd forgotten how much I used to like it (pitched down a bit). The Jeff in question is Jeff Mills. The story goes that he was playing in Vienna and (very uncharacteristically) drank a whole load of Four Roses bourbon and started acting (very uncharacteristically) crazy. The track was Christopher Just's attempt to sonically replicate Jeff Mills being very, very drunk.

i don’t often follow up on exaltics releases, i know gerald donald (dopplereffekt) is a big fan, but the dude puts out so much stuff, and most of it gritty heads-down dancefloor electro-techno … just too bleak, not colorful enough to catch my attention. he’s a bit like early 00s anthony rother in that respect.

he just put out his second best-of comp, and this remix from 2011 is on it. to me it’s a “zeta reticula ep 2” level banger and reminds me that when he gets going on the gothy 303 vibe he’s pretty much the only current producer that can step to gesloten cirkel
